  1. I'm looking at getting a single cab hilux but the towing capacity put me off. But... The vin plate says: 2940 kgs gvw 5740 kgs gtw Which equals 2800kgs towing capacity even though they only state 2250 kgs in the brochure!
  2. I love it and I want one!! Did it live up to all you had dreamt about it?! Your day only looked slightly more awesome than my day.... I was shovelling all that chip from yesterday!
  3. Come on then... What happened???!
  4. I've been for the last 3 years. Brilliant day out. It's not commercialised like most other agri shows, and dogs are allowed! For the last few years they've had horse logging demos, axe felling demos, chainsaw carving, milling, hewing.... The list goes on! Bought a nice piece of oak there last year for £20 and made this boot rack: I'll be there again this year.... Just hope the weather is glorious!! :-)
  5. I love my red trousers!! They're made by 'Engelbert Strauss' but are only type a's. A R/A was carried out as it was a hot day and so decided to climb in these before anyone asks!!
  6. I have found some info on the VOSA website - but I can't get my head around it!! Why can't they write it in plain English!!😖 Here it is: "Trailers drawn by Agricultural Motor Vehicles: Regulation 85(1) C&U: No person shall use, or cause or permit to be used, on a road a wheeled agricultural motor vehicle which the gross weight exceeds 14,230kgs drawing one or more wheeled trailers if the weight of the drawing vehicle is less than a quarter of the weight of the trailer or trailers, unless the brakes fitted to each trailer in compliance with regulation 15 or 16 are operated directly by the service braking system fitted to the motor vehicle. No more than 35% of the weight is borne by the drawing vehicle." Regulation 15 & 16 are: "Braking systems of certain vehicles first used after 01 April 1983: Regulation 15 C&U: Must comply with the braking requirements of ordinary road vehicles, such as air or hydraulic brakes with two line fail-safe systems. Braking systems of vehicles to which regulation 15 does not apply. Regulation 16 C&U In summary the following aspects are required: 1. Efficient braking system 2. Brake to apply to at least 1⁄2 of wheels 3. Park brake to operate on at least 2 wheels" So, are they saying; if my tractor and trailer combo doesn't exceed 14,230kgs, then I don't need brakes?? OR, are they saying; if my tractor and trailer combo exceeds 14,230kgs then the brakes on the trailer must be operated by the tractors service braking system?? It's the term "service braking system" which is throwing me. Do they mean a hydraulic lever to operate the trailers brakes or it must operate from the tractors braking system?? Maybe I've been out in the sun too long today because I have read it over and over and it doesn't make sense!😳 I hope someone can shed some light!!
  7. My mrs just asked if the door opened on the tree carving!
  8. It's not insured yet but will be soon and then I'll get my free tax disc. Lights/ wipers etc are good, and the original mirror is in the door pocket!! Lol No lap belt or smv triangle though! What is the max length of towing vehicle and trailer? Do you know of any links stating the rules as I'm finding it very difficult to find anything on google? Also, what's the score with home-made trailers? I see artic trailer conversions are popular with farmers and they wouldn't have any ID or data plate
  9. Thanks for the replies! So it looks like i need brakes! It makes sense anyway! Its 1976 so i could use the 3rd service lever... so thats the brakes sorted.
  10. Right, bear with me... I have an old IH574 68hp (when new!) tractor which is road legal - see pic below. Our woodland is approx 750 yards away on the road and it's fairly quiet country lanes and flat terrain. Also, when I buy in timber, the only artic access is about 1 mile away on a busy 'A' road. What is the law with towing an agri / forestry trailer? I have searched google and found an old website which said you could tow 4 times the weight of the tractor - tractor weighs 2.5t x4 = 10t. Is this true? Could I tow an 'un-braked' 6t timber trailer (similar to the one pictured below) legally on the road or does it have to be braked? If so, how do the hydraulic brakes work as I'm sure this tractor isn't piped for it?? Finally, do agri trailers have to have a manufacturers data plate? I could buy the wheels and stub axles and build a similar trailer, but would it be road legal? Thanks in advance!
  11. I've just replied to your PM lorry. And thanks for the help treequip!
  12. Good choice..... I love mine along with my Pantin! You'll be needing that Armor-Prus Eye2Eye I promised months ago then to go with your new rope 😳 Totally forgot about it but will finish it this week and get it in the post to you. PM me your address mate.
  13. I'm seriously interested! Can't give a definite answer for a couple of weeks but hopefully if all goes to plan it would be a god send! Wouldn't be far to haul it either.... do you think i'd get pulled towing it with the navara?!
  14. I have been using my chipper all day today then at the end of a job, it refused to start. Had a look inside and there were a few melted wires! I have replaced the melted wires but the fuel pump solenoid is really bad. All the insulation on x2 wires coming from the solenoid has melted, leaving me with the copper core right into the solenoid. I have put some heat shrink and soldered new wires too it but when I restarted the chipper, it ran for a minute and stopped... the earth wire had melted through and snapped! I am assuming it is the solenoid that is the problem as it was red hot, but the wiring has been played about with in the past and i wantvto double check everything. I would appreciate it if anyone had a wiring diagram they could email me so I can hopefully get it up and running again tomorrow. Any help, most appreciated!! [email protected]
  15. I can vouch for Jethro.... Had him in for a few jobs and he's an awesome climber! Very FAST, efficient, safe and doesn't stop!! I just wish I had more big jobs to get him in on! How's things anyway mate?? Picked up the 'Brizzle' twang yet?!
  16. Just looked on the lidl website... I fancy a pair for when i'm processing firewood. Any idea how the microphone function works and what its for?
  17. Have you never wanted to save a few ££'s??? We all work hard for our money so why should we throw it all away when all i had to do was walk a hundred yards and save £80 on 2 saws?! In previous years, ive been spoilt because the shows have had some great discounts and i assumed those discounts would be there this year... Like many other people did! Or maybe i'm just a miserable sod!
  18. Billets! Havent started yet but i'm sure they're the answer to this predicament. As you know, i had the same problems last year with storage and moving crates etc. But with billets, its less chainsaw cutting, and less repetitive splitting... And you can simply stack them up as big as you like and cover the top with a tarp/ corrugated roofing sheet. When it comes time to deliver them, Im going to get a pto circular saw and conveyor and process them straight into the truck at whatever length the customer wants. Or, once the billets are dry, stock pile a load of (non-vented) cheap bulk bags for the next weeks deliveries. Have also considered putting the billets into bundles and strapping them with pallet straps, then 4/5 cuts with the 660 and 36" bar and 'bobs ya uncle!'. Probably be messy and youve still got to handball them into the truck though. I'll keep you updated with how it goes this winter.
  19. I totally understand that there are overheads and the suppliers have to make a profit but IMO most people go to the shows to save a bit of money. By the time you've taken a day off working, paid diesel (and Severn bridge toll for me 😡), paid the £8 to get in, etc. etc. It's not a cheap day for the punter. Spoke to loads of mates that went this year with the plan on spending some cash, but their money stayed in their pockets! Why would they spend more on a product on the day, when they can get it cheaper from the same supplier online?! I've been holding off buying new saws for a while with the hope of saving a few more ££'s at the show and it paid off for me, but I'll probably think twice next time.
  20. £475 (inc. VAT, with any bar size) was on the tag, but bought a 550XP and a Stihl HL100 hedge cutter (for a mate) aswell so they knocked another £20 off. Excellent deal.... they'll be getting more business off me in the future!
  21. George Carr were the cheapest on saws so they had my money for a 550XP and a 201T. No other retailers were interested in dropping their prices to match it! Ive stayed faithful to a particular retailer in the past when i could have got an item slightly cheaper elsewhere online, but they've blown it now... Best price wins from now on! Some sellers had items up at more than their own internet prices and when questioned on it, they said "take it or leave it"..... So i left it!
  22. Nice website and good prices! Is the husky T540XP available yet??
  23. I will still need to use some crates for all my arb waste. i wish i could move 1m lengths from site back to the yard... would save alot of ringing up! i'll give you my contact for the ibc's if you like??!! did you get my PM the other week about the load handler?
  24. Thanks for the feedback! That sounds quick! i figure if i can cut 1m billets into 4 (3 cuts) and do 1m3 in about 20 mins, then it is definitely the way forward. It probably takes me that long throwing the logs into the back of the truck from the crates! i'm just sorting out a new splitter, then i'll be after a sawbench with conveyor!
