  1. That has got to be a fluke with the dimensions for the ladder rungs! Bloody handy though!!
  2. I am going to drop them an email just to make them aware of the mistake so hopefully it won't happen again. It may seem petty to someone outside of the firewood game but when you spend so much time explaining to customers the difference between volume and weight, and how you don't get a tonne of wood in a tonne bag, and my tipper dimensions are 2.7x2.0x0.3= 1.62m3, etc, etc, etc..... It really has wound me up!!
  3. Eccelent!!
  4. Just reading through the latest FJ (November 2011) and on pages 18&19 is an article called "under the hammer" about a firewood auction in Northumberland. The journalist describes the day and then states: "It is becoming well known that a full builders bag will contain approximately 1m3 of material. The barrow bags of hardwoods offered by ........, upon measurement, appeared to contain slightly less than 0.5m3." WTF! Have they been looking on eBay for inspiration?! Surely the author / editor should know something about woodfuel industry?? It really pees me off when you read a trade magazine and you know that the journalist hasn't got clue! Rant over!
  5. Interesting that all the setups are on tied friction cords as opposed to spliced! Would have thought that spliced cords would make the system less bulky and easier to use??
  6. You need to "narrow the depth of field". Eg. If you stand 1m away from an object and take your pic with you lens zoomed-out, the object and the surrounding area will be in focus. If you then stand as far away as possible with your lens zoomed-in so the object appears to be the same size as pic1, you have "narrowed the depth of field" and the background will be blurred. You may need to switch your camera to manual focus to be able to focus on your subject. To get the best effects, you need a large aperture lens (expensive!) with a low F number. Eg. F1.4 etc. I'll post up some examples if you like??
  7. I hope this isn't true!
  8. Like boatbuilder said, dormer make good easyouts. I've got some bahco ones which look identical and never break / wearout. Tried to remove a broken bolt from an outboard engine for a mate a couple of weeks back with an easyout he bought from halfords.... Waste of time! I think it was made of chocolate! Buy a couple of decent ones and they'll last forever!
  9. you can get tiny heli-coils. you would definitely get one for that bolt. before you go that drastic, try an easyout with an 1/8" hole so you dont risk damaging the threads. you could try and heat the casting whilst turning the easyout and tapping the top of the easyout with a hammer (gently!)
  10. I keep looking at how low mine is! Is the capacity smaller with your tank? Filled mine up today from the light being on for £75. Do you know what model iveco the tank is off??
  11. If your struggling to find somewhere and just need to practice on the weekend, you could get some kite cord from one of the watersports shops in Weymouth and a fishing weight. I'm crap with a throw line so can't offer you any tips!! A big-shot catapult is on my list of things to buy!
  12. There's nothing worse than cat/dog 'muck' (as you so politely put it!). I hope you priced the job accordingly??!!
  13. I love reading his articles in the FJ! Top Bloke!!
  14. Will let you know if I hear anything. Seems to be more and more happening in our area! Out of interest, did it look like a pro job or opportunist thieves?? How good was your security??
  15. 2nd vote for an isuzu trooper! Brilliant trucks for the money. my mate just picked up a '99 'T' plate swb van with 90k and full s/h for £1400!
  16. just bumping this thread. i've printed that pdf off and put it in the glovebox of the tipper incase i get pulled over. does anyone else read this differently??
  17. last check for costs was about £20 plm for materials - 4" posts, 6" f/e 1.8m, 2.4 centres and concrete.
  18. sounds cheap to me! i'm £45 plm (ish! - depending on access and ground) for small domestic work. the price of wood seems to have gone up too!
  19. hmmmm... that pics a bit small!
  20. go onto this link: Environment Agency - Register or renew as a waste carrier/dealer, broker/dealer or carrier/broker/dealer then its under "do i need to register". download the PDF and its on there. below is a screen-shot of it:
  21. I dont have a waste carriers licence and so far have avoided getting one! Just looked on the environment agencies website and according to their table, tree surgeons dont need a licence for green waste until dec 2013. Is this right or am i missing something????
  22. Dammit! Didnt think so! My 'gym freak' mate did it this morn and got to 17-12 after a big breakfast!!
  23. Vosa not visa!! Doh!!
  24. And equitrek horse boxes which weigh 1595kgs un-laden... I was towing one the other week without an 'O' licence! They don't tell you that when you buy one! Visa would have a field day at a horsey event!!
