  1. 12.6 for me... But i had a little longer break between 11 and 12. Probably about a minute... Does this still count??! Didnt think id get that far as i havent trained properly for years.
  2. WBP ply (water and boil proof) probably. I am thinking of 1/4" ply for the sides and 1/2" for the headboard.
  3. i saw a land rover towing a 4 wheeled trailer with a drawbar the other day similar to the one below (alot shorter though!). This would help with the hitch weight issue. An absolute pig to reverse though!
  4. Funny enough... i was having a conversation about this today! Winter will be on us before we know it! i know a few people who own alot of public areas. eg big carparks, retail sites, etc. and i'm sure the work would be out there. Like you, i am finding it difficult to try and price it. would you do it on time, area covered, or grit used?? Have you got any prices for the snowex spreaders??
  5. I've got a cost off aalco.co.uk. They are a massive company and have been the cheapest for aluminium when i have used them in the past. For a 3000mm x 1500mm x 3mm sheet, its £116 + vat. The sheet weighs 36kg.
  6. Thanks for all the replies. Think i'm going to go ahead with it! I'll keep you posted with the progress! benedmunds - I've bought a similar iveco crew cab but 3.5t! Hence the need for it to go on a diet! The steel dropsides on the tipper at the moment must weigh 60kgs each!
  7. Have you got any pics? The way i'm designing it should hopefully mean it won't need many strengtheners. I found a bit of 3mm ally sheet in my barn earlier and threw a log at it.... didn't leave a mark! it was only about 600mmx600mm but was surprisingly strong!
  8. I have just bought an iveco tipper and the steel back is so heavy! I am going to build a snazzy looking tipper body which will hopefully last for years. I have searched the internet for inspiration and i really like the look of the cabstar below. Does anyone have a chipbox made of 3mm aluminium sheet? If so, how does it stand up to day to day use? My only concern is throwing logs in might dent the body from the inside. No matter how careful i am, theres always going to be one log which bounces off another and will hit the sides! The cabstar looks like its lined with ply so that could be an option but weight is a big issue. From my calculations, i could build this style box with 3mm aluminium sheet, all the fittings, a roof, and a tailgate and it will weigh around 155kgs (excluding the floor and tipping gear). If i was to use alloy planking, it would be around 220kgs and 14mm GRP would be about 250 kgs. Any advice or experience would be greatfully received as i'm planning to order everything this week!
  9. Moderators please delete due to finger error on the title!
  10. I found that Saturn machine knives were the cheapest by far for blades when i had an m300. Vermeer couldn't quite understand why i didn't order of them... even when i said i could get them at half the price!
  11. Isuzu trooper? you would get a mint, up in the year, low miler for that money. They tow like a steamtrain and are more than capable offroad.
  12. Hell yeah! Thats why i'm so impressed with them. My brother-in-law bought the non-hd go-pro when we went biking in the Alps last year and that was good, but this is something else!
  13. Forget that.... Just saw the title! A go-pro hd maybe!!! Gotta get me one of them!
  14. What camera are you using frank? Looks great quality!
  15. I'm in south wales so a bit far to travel. I would definitely have one and pay for a courier if he could put it on a pallet. Let me know if you hear off him
  16. I've got the maul and its excellent! It is effortless compared to some cheap axes my mates have. Seriously... Everyone thought i was mad paying £80 for an axe but they have all had a go and can feel the difference! I don't know what it is but they are special!
  17. Looks good mike. Personally i wouldn't bother with the centre leg as i can't see the pressed steel clamp holding upto much weight. Do you think it will be able to lift a builders bag of logs onto the trailer? I find when lifting bags with the 4 loops on a single hook, they tend to stretch and elongate so you need more height to lift them. Got my eyes out looking for one of these cranes now to copy your idea! Doubt i'll find one for the same price though!
  18. No offence taken but if you don't ever ask questions... you'll never learn! Surely thats the point of a "Forum"? There doesn't seem to be much call for hedgelaying around my parts. I was hoping to get into it by doing some conservation work but its never come up. I even advertise hedgelaying on my website! If the work ever came up commercially, i know of a few 'countryside contractors' (farmers!) who would do it. However, because this hedge is my mrs', i'm not likely to paid for it! As luck has it, i was just delivering some logs to an old family friend who is an ex-forester and he is going to come up and point me in the right direction!
  19. I made my own and its about 3m long. Plenty long enough for 99% of british tree work imo.
  20. Here is the hedge to be laid... mainly Hawthorn with oak, holly, hazel, blackthorn and ash through it. There are some gaps in it which the horses are sneaking out of so it needs to be sorted. Hedge Chopper - where you say leave plenty on the hinge, do you mean to use a conventional felling cut with a gob and back cut to get the larger diameter stuff over? i have only seen a small diameter hazel hedge laid and to lay it, they just severed the back of the stem and bent it over.
  21. Same here! My misses asked what i could do with a 80m (approx) length of overgrown hawthorn hedge approx 20ft high (iirc ) up her stables. I stupidly said it could be layed! Now thats on my 'to-do' list! Having never done it before, are there any tips? i will get some pics later today and have a good look at the different species. i know there is some young oak growing amongst it too. Would you lay it too?
  22. Sorry for the late reply... been on holiday! I would have some but i think the delivery costs are going to kill the price. Do you know the trade name of the boxes?
  23. What make swing lift is that? The ones i have seen have a fixed arm length so i ruled hem out of this sort of use. What weigh will it lift fully extended? Good project... Keep the pics coming!
