  1. A friend owns a property in the south of france and has 8 acres of woodland. He wants to fell a fair bit of timber but are there any restrictions? Felling licences, tpo's etc? I seem to recall someone having to ask permission of the local mayor? I've tried searching on arbtalk and google but cant seem to find anything. Any help most appreciated!
  2. I'm sure i read somewhere that you don't neccessarily need a tacho... You can record the drivers' hours, breaks etc. in a notebook. Has anyone done this and got away with it?
  3. I had the same problem. In the end i just removed the rear seats and insured it as a 3 seater! The problem is because any commercial vehicle with more than 6 seats is classed as a minibus!
  4. Thanks for the replies. I just did a little experiment and cut some 6" rings and split them by hand to fill a net. I've just weighed the net and it's 4.9kgs. So... A ton should produce 200 nets. Gensetsteve - are you talking a solid m³ or 6" rings in a m³ bag/box?
  5. I've tried searching but haven't come up with any answers. Roughly how much timber (tonnage) would make 1000 40x50cm nets with the kindling 6" long? I've got 15t of Western Red Cedar so how many nets would you expect to make from it?
  6. Me too! No probs whatsoever!
  7. Highly recommend the hydro combi! Ive nearly got my ideal setup... japa 700 processor for anything sub 12", posch19t splitter for 1m billets for anything over 12" and for splitting rings. All I need is a loading rack and another tractor to run the processor so my tractor with the loader can move bags about and keep loading the rack.
  8. Marcus, try it this way... Open this link: http://translate.google.com/m/translate Then type in http://www.zurrbind.de into the search box. The website will then be in English. I fancy trying some of these so I've emailed them about sending to the uk.
  9. You owe me a pint! Stumbled across this on google. It's a German site so i viewed it with google translate and put the link up. Hope it works. Seem very reasonable... 24euro for 50 "zurrbinds" http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A//www.zurrbind.de/shop/catalog/browse%3Fsessid%3Dyl9j9ETBFefNLUymcc7Fn7HUYw3ch5Mr8zXtDsPzZ4BLHBDPN7pxzjtZEw7MmEog%26shop_param%3D%0A
  10. +1 for Burley Holywell. Amazing stove... The most efficient stove on the market at the moment! Pretty much heats the whole of my 3bed bungalow just from the stove
  11. Thanks Geoff and Stubby... Would you refit and use the stove without a liner for the time being? I'm not going to have time anytime soon to fit the liner! The stove is amazing! I've turned the boiler off since the new stove is fitted!
  12. Lawson cypress and leylandii mostly but bits of pine and larch too.
  13. I've recently replaced my crappy old villager woodburner with a super efficient 'burley holywell' stove. It's been in for a few weeks and its performance is amazing but... Last night there was tar dripping down the outside of the flue pipe onto the top of the stove. The sealant from the flue pipe to the register plate looked intact but must have had a small gap for the tar to drip from. It's also run down the side of the register plate (as per the pic). I've pulled the stove out tonight and looked up the chimney and its coated in a shiny tar. The pic doesn't show it very well. I've swept the chimney spending a good 5mins before adding the next pole and about a pint of soot came down. Would you say this tar needs removing from the chimney before refitting the stove? It's smooth to touch and won't come off easily. Is it safe to carry on using the stove or is there a high risk of a chimney fire? I've been burning 2 year old softwood which is very dry. It's light as a feather and around 18% MC so I don't think it's the wood. I don't 'bank' the fire down down either. There's always a good flame and stupid amounts of heat generated. The stove is very efficient on wood though - I put on 4-5 logs before going to bed and leave the fire burning well, and there's still embers at 6am. The chimney is on an external wall of a bungalow and is brick construction. I'm going to fit a liner, insulate around it, and fit an external air supply for the stove in the summer but would like to continue using it for now. Any thoughts/views welcome!
  14. I'm 6'5" and wear the large carbons. They are soooo comfy! Be warned though... Don't walk on concrete / hard surfaces with them as it will damage the carbon fibre. Apart from that, they're perfect!
  15. "Site Notice" means a notice containing- (a)the name of the applicant, (b)the address or location of the proposed development, ©a description of the proposed development and of the materials to be used, (d)a statement that the prior approval of the authority will be required to the siting, design and external appearance of the building or, as the case may be, the siting and means of construction of the private way, (e)the name and address of the local planning authority, and which is signed and dated by or on behalf of the applicant. Good luck with your building... I will be watching ths post closely as i'll soon be undertaking the same Permitted development route!
  16. Cool... Could you put me down for one and PM me when they arrive?
  17. You do if you were allocated entitlements back in 2005! Failing that, you can BUY entitlements at a cost of more than the first years SFP! I dont understand how this system is fair! How can someone who was farming in 2005 be granted subsidy entitlement, then trade it for profit?! Crazy world we live in!
  18. I'll find out exacty for you off a local land agent if you can hang on until early next week. I'll get my dad to give him a call
  19. RobD - do you supply a 15" .325" for a husky 550xp? My original husky bar is nearly ready for the scrap bin!
  20. The doors hinges were from http://www.bloxwichtruckandcontainer.co.uk and we're £24+vat for the 4. The tailgate hinges were off eBay but you have to fabricate a way of mounting them.
  21. Then Caerphilly mountain top snack bar for lunch! :-) yum yum!!
  22. Me and Rhys will be there! Scott (taffupatree) and a few other boys will be up for it I'm sure. Martyn: I'll PM you now with a possibility of location and ideas.
