  1. there is a commercial grower near hear they always start cutting the day after bonfire night
  2. about 30 35 years ago there were the 6 month wonders (brickies) half the stuff they built had to be pulled down again it was costing the firms a fortune in extra materials
  3. i am a husky fan i think they cut better than stihl but the blade needs regular oiling to stop it locking up just give it a brush with old engine oil before you hang it up for the night

  7. a cluster of villages wo betide them if they get a good fall of snow how do they expect one person to cope with several villages
  8. i burn any wood that i can get my hands on which is not much these days since i retired willow is ok but it will reabsorb moisture leylandii i find burns smashing if someone came along and offered me a load of softwood logs at half the price of hardwood i would more than likely take the offer

  10. a few years back one of my late customers had a unusual apple tree she ended up sending a apple and a few leaves off to some organization (cant remember who) and they got quite excited about it turned out it was what they thought was a extinct variety they came and took loads cuttings to propagate don't know what root stock they used she got about a dozen back as i had to plant them
  11. there is a product you can get for fence posts bit like heat shrink that you put on the post at soil level but i do not know how large you can get them
  12. looks like it has not been touched since it was done 4 or 5 years ago and i bet that was the first time since it was planted go in with a god price to do it to 4 mts i think most of it will come back at the top but it will not look good it would be better to take it off at floor height and start again
  13. what if (as i know nothing ) ground and air heat pumps has taken up in the future will it take heat out of the planet and bring on a ice age will it affect the soil insects same as taking heat out of ponds/lakes instead of 2inch of ice will it be 6 inch the bottom will be colder will it have a effect on the fish and other life in them ?
  14. too many things to go wrong such as a rta that takes out one of the pilons and shuts down the entire motorway for hours also thousands of wagons a hour will soon wear out the cables compared with maybe 100 trains per day on the railways also the electric has to come from somewhere
  15. if you are tipping into the truck plastic dustbins are the easiest if you are using dumpy bags carry them don't drag them or a sheet if you want to rake straight onto it
  16. someone gave me a butterbush to grow not a big fan of the squash plants but i decided to cube and roast it and it was ok bit like crispy chips with a soft fluffy middle but i don't think i will bother growing them again
  17. saw something the other day on tv they were drilling into a old coal mine and were going to recirculate the warm water out to provide heating for houses then it went back into the mine it did not go into details
  18. in the uk i thought you had to run all season tyres or is it all weather i know something changed not to long back
  19. quite a bit of rain this week but lovely yesterday afternoon just in a t shirt today rained on and off from about 10 am tonight its clear and a lovely view of the hunters moon
  20. i would have thought a cobbler would mend them try google them to see what's in your area
  21. it looks a right pad, but if its solid walls the idea of lime bedding and pointing lets the moisture evaporate out from the walls where cement pointing will not then it tries to get out from the stone and the frost hits it and it starts to spall
