  1. £115 for the test and £35/hr for training. That will vary depending on trainer though. It's not that tricky. If you can learn a bit of road craft then it will make your life easier!
  2. Did it at 8.45 this morning. Missed a turn on my independent drive but that was because of traffic. 8 minors in all. Pretty pleased! Anybody need B+ E training near me? The guy I did it with is very good.
  3. Chris what's th engine in the hilux? I might be interested in buying it. Any other info?
  4. Find a quiet spot and as long as you aren't bothering anyone why not. I've done it. Second hand gear, unless you know it's history I wouldn't bother. It's your life!
  5. what do mean by tractor licence? the one you get at 16? The normal car driving licence supersedes that, and covers your tractor trailer combo up to 24t
  6. my basic knowledge on this topic tells me that the mog must be road registered and you need an O licence or other licence to cover its weight.
  7. find a guy with a chipper and truck will be the best and cheapest option imo
  8. afaik yes. normal driving license covers tractors, but you cant carry chip on the mog.
  9. ive got my B+E test tomorrow morning, its not that tricky what they want you to do. Reverse a simple S into a space, drive for a bit in the way they want, much like roadcraft. Then uncouple and recouple the trailer. test is £115. done my training with an independent guy, £35/hr.
  10. *bump* Whos up for it next weekend then? theres a group of 60ft plus beech and other species near me that are ideal for a rec climb, however im just trying to deal with permissions. Might just go anyway? if i cant get hold of anyone, my place is still free.
  11. We have a 60 plate defender, it's running the 140hp 2.4tdci transit engine. Sounds like one too. Pulls well, fuel economy isn't brilliant, lucky to get mid 20s mpg. Not had any issues with it.
  12. When is it then? I'd like to do Windsor again when it's the right time, I'm sure it will be booming again considering the good haul we got even in November. Could get a group together there. Aswell as all the local places you showed me in feb, but in more detail. Looks like I could spend a few weekends darn sarf to get me fix!
  13. Good post tony, I'm glad your around, learnt a lot from you in the past 9 months and would like to continue doing so! The oak with the life belt, Is there something going on at the base? The flare seems unnatural, I. Dryadeus?
  14. Cool Are you planning the annual foray again? Put my name down for that
  15. Been up twice since October. Last time was feb just before i saw you. It's a great place to go. Another hunt there this year perhaps?
  16. not much chatting going on, but still an interesting feature on this, tony you should remember this tree! I had to snap up the obligatory daft photo opportunity!
  17. Is there some K. deusta on there too? Can't tell, could just be how the image is coming up. But looks the shape of it to me. What happened to the top few inches of soil too Ian? Been wondering that since I saw them pics.
  18. there is even a possibility of moving the current tree to a spot further away that provides a more even light.
  19. i know, but it smells good!
  20. She may live up to the blonde stereotype. But if she dropped a load of biscuit crumbs in bed I wouldn't kick her out!
  21. I put just had a full clean and general service and take photos of a clean saw with sprocket cover off showing that it's clean! There's such a mixed bag on eBay, it's more of a gambling site than an auction one.
  22. We've got one of the very first ones from when they came out ages ago! My best rpm is over 13k. Took some practice! Not been able to get much over 10 for a while now. Lost the string too but can still start it with a good flick!
  23. i dont see why having logs smaller than 14" is an issue, and you never said you sell loads by the ton so why he is emphasizing that point is uncalled for, get onto the editor, having him bash you like this would be libel as its written where slander is spoken. it seems hes more interesting in how much he got for his money, which is fair seeing as everyone is wanting value for money, but to do it this way and actually work out how much per log is a bit daft. less customers like him please!
  24. andy try an app called ipflanzen, i think its spelled that way, has a good amount of trees and plants in it. Ive been using my ipad instead of a filofax for the past couple of months now, really easy, can add as much info as i need into each job and when its connected to internet it then syncs with my phone and vice versa. I just wrap it up in a jacket to give it some protection and security when in the truck.
  25. i use my surname, which coincidentally is also the name of a local village, and thats where most of my work comes from! i wouldnt advertise in yellow pages, i tried thomson local and got nothing, small parish magazines are best as they tend to get read more because they might have other articles and local information in.
