  1. nothing wrong with a bit of good karma dont feel like you are letting them down, you have to make sure number 1 is looked after too! As you come around this stage in life you will be back to doing their gardens and looking back and reflecting on this part of your life, and will have learnt from it.
  2. +1 to that! you dont buy it to use it as a desktop or microsoft PC, so why expect it to run like one? an ipad makes my life a lot more convenient.
  3. so it seems that if a highly valued tree is interfering with a building, instead of just pruning it away from the building, it should just be felled and a little cheap nursery stock tree should be put in its place? Based on the opinion that its bad so it should be felled.
  4. Duncan's research is interesting and has caused a few 'spin off' dissertations which I am looking forward to seeing and had some involvement in gaining materials for one of them. Re the bad and good trees. What about the ones in the middle? Cut them in half?
  5. when looking for books think about an area you want to look into, as there are books that are specialised i.e. Wood and Tree Fungi by Olaf Schmidt and general ones i.e. Modern Arboriculture by Alex Shigo. i find it handy to look on amazon and be broad with your search terms to see what you can find, theres a good range on there and you can get some good prices. look through http://www.treesource.com to get an idea of what is good for your collection, as any books on there will be useful. You just have to know what you want form the books! do you want to know more on fungi? decay? biology? tree identification? body language? management? the list goes on. Hope that helps
  6. found this online [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EPaEHVhXzY&feature=my_favorites&list=FLZXRL4EiD37vb401JHVp90A]Stihl MS201T Modded - YouTube[/ame]
  7. just stick them straight in the ground the right way up, they will propagate vegetatively very easily
  8. Lost? I was going to burgess hill a bit further down. Had to collect a cheque for the company my mum works for. A drink would have helped me too,a 4 and a half hour drive isn't something I'd do for fun! Maybe next time
  9. That's not dead, it's coming into leaf! Nothing to worry about IMO, sever the ivy to reduce some of the windsail on the stem. The hole at the base seems like it goes under the roots an is home to a critter of some sort, hard to tell much else from these pics.
  10. I agree with mark on the not cutting 5 days a week. I'm about to start my 3rd year and I think my own jobs I could do 2 or 3 days a week currently if work stays as it is. And that would be going good too. Maybe find someone else who can share the cost and you may have a better firm from the start.
  11. Tapatalk has some smilies built in but there are a few like : biggrin : that come out as text but in safari under normal browsing conditions they work. I also drove past you in your mog on the m25 this morning. Roughly 8.15!
  12. The SJ is just an example, but on my lanyard spliced by them the label is at the splice end and it leaves a clean end to go through my art Positioner.
  13. Honey bros put the marking at the splice end so the other end is free for you to put through a spider jack.
  14. Smilie List - Arbtalk.co.uk | Discussion Forum for Arborists should open a new window, all the codes are next to them
  15. theres 11 of us on the BSc course, however theres probably only 4 or 5 who would make become a climber afterwards, me and 2 others already are. add to that the college level courses, ND, NC, HND etc, with probably 20 on each all wanting to climb, but they all get tickets, whether they actually carry on with the work is a different story.
  16. Best way on tapatalk is to remember the code for them and type it in. That's what I do.
  17. I use a wolf garten one but have the saw on the end. Never been too keen on the string pole pruners. Can be too much stretch in them.
  18. Are you using safari or tapatalk to access Arbtalk?
  19. Close or not you'll still find they will be pyramidal in shape. If they were planted to be christmas trees then wait till winter, depending on species and size. Norway spruce from 25' up to 50' are popular for town centres.
  20. I remember that plane. Big tree. What's the height?
  21. I'm getting faster , just under 3 hours for these two. No before pics but I took about 6-8ft off the top and matched the sides in. Drop zone was an old shed with a very sketchy roof and the tree on the left had 2 tin roof sheds either side aswell as the old shed. Everything left on site, happy days! Pleased with it
  22. All the ART gear is ace. Positioner is one thing you will love straight away. I'm tempted for an SJ now! Seem better in different ways compared to a LJ! Will we see a Tonyjackery HD?
  23. that still mobile version gibbon desktop version here:
  24. sweet! looks like everyones wanting to rec climb, i went out this afternoon with a lad from myerscough up some beeches nearby
