  1. Ooo explosives and trees! Awesome! Will be registering my interest!
  2. Was the drinking during or before the test? Well done. It's a good feeling! How was your assessor?
  3. Yeah it is! Especially on a shorter bar where it has more of a habit of spinning chains at idle, even when set right mine will jump the chain along a little bit at idle. Just got to be aware of it!
  4. Cheers. That explains what's been happening pretty well. A good smack on the handle usually puts it on. I have the dual port muffler on it and it hasn't made a huge difference due to it still having a side port in the same place.
  5. Reading this has made me think, when using a big bar for a bit it gets hard to put the chain brake on. Had it with a 25 and 36 bar. But my saw is out of warranty now anyway. Let it cool a bit and no issue. Does the plastic just get a bit warm and stop it letting you activate it? Bit unsure on this
  6. Trees by Bon Watson is a good one Aboriculture by Harris Clark and matheney is also good. Trees and forests a colour guide by Bryan Bowes covers a lot. The three yellow books principles of tree hazard management and assessment, diagnosis of I'll health in trees and the body language of trees are must haves.
  7. if you really want a saw that will run everything the 660 is the way to go, you could always change the sprocket and run a .325" 13" bar!
  8. Fixed that for you pete
  9. Saturday is better for me. Sunday traffic is never that great
  10. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-roCn3INJ8]STIHL ms 171 youngets STIHL user 6 years - YouTube[/ame]
  11. revision for exams this week, got urban forest management tomorrow and applied plant science and biotechnology on friday. then uni is done with!
  12. a 460 and 660 are pretty closed matched on 25" bars, you just get the extra grunt available from the 660 for the bigger bars, ive not used a 460 much but own a 660 and find it brilliant, had it on a 20" bar for a while and it was brilliant. on a 25" it was still just as good!
  13. Chain goes in, wood comes out, tree falls down. Always works the same for me I suppose if you got a piece of chain and dragged it across a piece of wood as if you were trying to make it cut you would see it in some way
  14. Swimming will do less than you think. Takes much longer to get your muscles warm so you won't get any benefit. If you want stamina, start skipping. That is one of the hardest things to do! Plenty press ups with narrow wide and medium width stance to use all of your pectorals. Incline sit ups to do back and abs. Find a cheap gym and a trainer to point you right.
  15. Hi Mike

You will have to come down one day for a rec climb and we can have a chat. Seeing as your local i can try and use you on some days, what do you charge for grounding for a day?

I doubt id pay £150 per day for a climber with only a couple years weekending experience, id be happier around the £100 mark. I doubt anybody would. Most good climbers i know are £120.

I try to do as much climbing as i can but recently its just little bits here and there that i cn climb no issues. ive got2 years part time experience running Rainfords Tree Care, theres a chance youve seen be out and about.

There's not a lot of work around so dont rely on tree work to give you a cushy living. i enjoy the work so the money isnt as big an issue for me, but im still not busy and ive been going for 2 years now.

    Regards

    Rob

  16. I can't even get £5k for a car over 5 years! Wouldn't want to try getting a mortgage!
  17. I'm fine up trees, took a bit to get the nerve and always hated my system going slack at first, just didn't feel safe. Quite happy climbing around now, tricky bits I just take a bit longer and think about it more. If its getting far from the anchor, clip in, takes 2 seconds and could prevent a couple bruises! Ladders, hate them. Can only just manage half way up a 7ft set of steps. If they are wobbly then there's even less chance of me going much higher. Can't stand em! Bought a 10ft set which come out for Conny hedges and that's about it!
  18. Any spartacusesses in the house?
  19. Nothing bad meant by it, He's recovering from what could have been a lot worse. Very lucky!
  20. Phone number, day rate and availabilities. Click my name <--- Then find the send message button!
  21. Send me a pm with your details. I'm in eccleston 5 mins from you.
  22. Good news to hear. Obviously not served his time yet! All the best for a fast recovery
  23. Put up a fence and mulch around the base. No need to drop anything out of there!
  24. Thanks I wasn't sure where to get clock faces, there was a place near me supplying what I needed and that clock face suited best from what there was.
