  1. looks like theres a lot of brown oak in there? which seems an abnormal amount for a tree of that size. So F. hepatica causes an increase of heartwood? Did you try going into a burr? that would be an interesting result. Also, it could be worth getting the sapwood portion checked out and maybe PCR scanned for presence of the hyphae of Fistulina.
  2. Thanks for that. I shall have to go on a little hunt and hopefully find me a good laetiporus shot. Got one tree nearby confirmed.
  3. You codda be koiddin me, can't beeleive this thread is still floating!
  4. May aswell do the Sunday then if that's when you can go! Anybody else confirmed on this? Wouldn't mind a tree walk before me jollies!
  5. Not been out fung hunting in a while, never really been this time of year. What's active and good to look for?
  6. Also to add, I have got my B+E so can drive a vehicle up to 3.5t with a trailer over 750kgs too.
  7. Mushroom? I've just about got the hand of doing a log! Great work, would love to have even half that skill carving!
  8. Seeing as your local then feel free to pop Down for a rec climb anytime. Always looking for new people to have in the phone book. Seems the merseyside arbs are growing in numbers now, to me anyway. Noticing a lot more of them!
  9. You won't be disappointed bigger is better, but stihl is best! (cue husky lover replies! ) Get a dual port muffler, get the carb tuned for it and it's a beast. The dual port is the same on the 660 magnum or R versions. Can be found on eBay!
  10. Loads of tescos near me with an asda and couple of morrisons nearby. Ain't posh enough round here for those waitrose folk! Just been to tesco myself and got 8 800 gram loaves of bread for 12p each. 10% of what they were at full price. Best before tomorrow but will just freeze them and will do us for weeks!
  11. Hi guys In July I'll be back from holiday and ready for work full time. Happy to travel. Got all the kit I need, 200t and 3 ground saws up to 660. Climbing and rigging kit. 2 years experience but not full time. I have a foundation degree awarded but just finished the bsc and awaiting results. Fairly certain I've not failed! Very enthusiastic and hard working. Happy to learn and apply myself to a task! Pick things up quickly like using machinery and other tasks. Cv available if required. After any work you can give me. Pay negotiable depending on circumstances. Surveying/consulting/conny bashing/ climbing (particularly enjoy reductions!)/grounding. Pm me here or call/text me 07841128366 Thanks for reading!
  12. There is also a platipus ground anchor, very similar design but it has wings so it's wider in the ground. Two big blokes couldn't even pull a small one out, rated to 150kgs with 2mm wire!
  13. Plus your eyes are far away cos of them long legs of yours
  14. I'll get a photo of a beech in between me and RobArb. It's knackered and has been for a few years. Sits in a field about 10m from a busy main through road. Last year fruiting bodies of ganos appeared, pretty sure it's pfeifferi. Want to learn more about the owners of this tree. It needs sorting really. Crown is retrenched and severely stag headed. Most people would suggest a fell, but I don't think it's worth climbing! I'll get to it over the weekend.
  15. I had Chris in for me one day doing some reductions, competent climber and a good eye for his work. Would definitely have him in again!
  16. I'm interested. Just finished my bsc!
  17. He's been well and truly stitched up here. Hook, line and sinker...
  18. A week of use in those and they leave my hands stinking to high heaven. Can't even scrub the smell out. I used to love them but the smell put me off. Plus they were £4/pair near me. I went on eBay and got a pack of 12 nitrile coated ones with very thin fabric at the back for less than a tenner. Lasting me ages, had about 6 months so far and still not finished the pack! Good enough value for me!
  19. Did you have any issues trying to log in to get it? I can't get through on mine so i can't get hold of a copy!
  20. Stihl 362 is my most picked up saw now. 20" bar covers pretty much everything!
  21. Ha. No it did cross my mind but was thinking more dryadeus. As we saw oaks with both of those and fistulina. It seemed pretty symptomatic.
  22. Did I make you think then? I get ya. Dryadeus was just an example. I thought Grifola was something to do with it in this case but wasn't sure.
  23. I know one oak that will qualify for the big oak thread Tony with this one here, do you reckon we've got a dual colonisation? I.e. base rotter like dryadeus with fistulina in the higher sections? Looking at the burring beginning almost level it seems that way. That's how I see it, what do you think?
  24. Not melting. Just more pliable than usual!
  25. That's the main reason I did mine. I can help my dad now and also I can tow a bigger chipper legally. I want to do my 7.5t next.
