  1. avoid tractors from livestock farms ( fym rots metal ) ford ten series , case IH , massey, try not to buy models with too many electrics rather mechanical switches for linkage , FWD , pto , diff lock , gear shift / splitter , smaller sorts 40 - 80 hp are sought after by horse / hoby farmers . Big ones like ford 7610 8210 case 956 massey 3080 - 3095 less desirable for that sector because they are phisically big in length and hp . They've all got dearer by 30 % in last two years because new ones have gone up due to exchange rates .
  2. 346 husky for me used it today !
  3. no but the're is usually plenty of workshop manuals on CD on a well known auction site ( E$%£ ) search under ford tractors .
  4. HI dave I bought one from Gustharts ( see side bar here ) earlier this year £90 + vat , that was the best price by a long way . guess you were meeting and greeting new intake today . chris
  5. Yes i would subscribe so long as i could be sure people would see it near the top of listings ( one for the computer techs ) and at a competetive price . I guess public would google tree surgeon in .....(south lincs ) not "arborist" in ....... good idea bring it on
  6. A cubic metre is 100cm (1m) wide x 1m wide x 1m high . but those containers look like the're on euro pallets 1.2 x 1.2 meteres there for they would only need to be filled to a deepth of 70 cm (28 inches ) to get a full metre cube .
  7. Hello young man , how are you ? . another year at riseholme is coming to an end how have you found things this year ( asking because thinking of doing course this next year ) .Are you getting plenty of work experience and still working with "chip" ? Hope life and work is what you want regards chris johnson

  8. too right about the queuse for food ,I'm a light drinker and the queue for the beer tent was so non existent that I could have got drunk in the same time it took to get to the front of the line for a choice of sausage , sausage , or sausage , but was reasonably priced .and tasty
  9. thanks for replies / advice have ordered silky hyauchi chris johnson
  10. Looking to buy a pole pruner with interchangeable heads ( saw and lopper ) presently looking at Silky telescopic ,which is still a bit long when folded down or Stein pole system that dismantles down to six foot sections not sure what fittings ( screw or clip together ) , not so controversal as stihl versus husky , but I want to get the right kit .
  11. So a poll for someone (computer sort )to organise ; how many of you out there are tree surgeons and how many are arborists (arboriculturists ) or what do you write on the side of your works wagon . I think that not all customers would know what 'arborist' means and "tree surgeon " sounds reasonably professional but I'd like to call myself an arborist as it sounds grandious and I do have NC Arb.
  12. there is a law (ask DEFRA ) that hedge cutting (agricultural ) cannot take place between march and july 1st or is it 31st . I was also told many years ago not to lay a thorn hedge whilst it was in flower ,thats now ! ,because it would probably kill it because it would be unable to support itself through the reduced bark coverage from the laying cut and the increased demands of budding and flowering. So a douible no no.
  13. for those who havn't been before what can you expect to see ? , how many trade stands ?( excluding beer tents ) demo's ? competitions ? been to confor canock chase before , guess not in that league , poss looking to do a bit of kit trying / buying .if you can enlighten us the thanks in advance .
  14. I much prefer husky for conventional saws ,346xp better than stihl ms 260 , but I would have to admit to just buying a brand spanking new ms200T the're really pucker , any way let others try out the new saws and tell us of their experiences so we know what to buy another time after any teething problems .
  15. as previously stated ( CJ ) its something like 50 ish miles for me that means no problems to local marts but if you go to special sale bull breeding or yorkshire gimmer sales then a licence is needed I did mine 3/4 years ago at market a private firm were doing it on behalf of nptc , a multiple choice on line laptop job very hard to fail ,just another taxation . seperate ones cattle and sheep /pigs /poultry/horses a fee for each one ! !
  16. .I've just bought a new 200t for not much more than a 10 yr old one on ebay , my thoughts buy tried and tested 200t and wait to see if any problems arise with new model and give stihl chance to sort them out . I guess the're are those that have to have the latest saw / car / ipod etc the new ones could be better
  17. me too I tried them for the first time last week ( rope etc ) then a new saw this week, keen prices and prompt next day delivery both times , good to know there's still good service out there
  18. An oldie like me has tthe advantage my group A licence allows me to drive 7500 kgs and dont forget away round the 3500 kgs limit , a tractor can tow as much as it can pull poss 30,000 kgs so long its got brakes and lights etc. the 3500 kg threshold another example of the british way of strangulating free enterprise and making jobs for civil servants .
  19. I was looking at the treelife option because it is time efficient / cost effective and more theoretical / oriented towards consultancy than ND arb (that also encompasses practical skills) in the state sector and yes a level 6 diploma might well be undertaken at a later date. So ( John ) does that mean that Moulton are doing a similar course ?
  20. Thanks for replies mostly confirming my thoughts private has something to offer above the state sector
  21. I am thinking of doing further study in order to move towards consultancy / advisory work, two options (a) state ag college and 2 yr ND ( level 3 ) course based on 100 days p.a. or ( b) private traing provider (known to many on here ) to do level 4 ND course (relpacement of the old level 3 AA technicians course ) based on 15 - 20 days plus home study all in one year . The later seems to have many advantages ! thoughts please especialy from those who have done the private sector way thanks
  22. we have a single furrow plough made from old 4 furrow ,now fully offset and reversible so you can pull out furrow close to hedge. (don't forget to leave 4 ft gap for hedge cutter twixt fence and hedge) is for hire !! Usually mount rabbit netting on pretensioned plain wires
  23. google 'monocot' or diagram of monocot etc usually wikipeadia . is that for adrian stockdale or russ sharp ?
  24. you can invoice them all you like , but first you'll have to get an order / requisition number and no one any where in the EA will be able to do that ! Remember the passport agency computer and the child tax credits a few years back and many more .
  25. last year we worked out that our son, 7 yrs, is dyslexic ,school damn useless. We went to dyslexia association at nottingham for assesment and help .been told that dyslexia is passed through the male genes didnt even know that I was, have always had trouble remembering things and prefer to learn by doing ,studying isnt my comfort area did alright at school to o'levels in maths, physics geography etc but absolute crap at french german english etc.Did nc arb last year passed that because i was interested and learnt tree idents by parrot fashion want to do nd arb this next year. the bit about being untidy , yep when people interfere with my stuff or just too many piles of papers or spanners etc to wade through then I'm knackered . the answer keep things simple
