  1. I would guess that both Rytec and Riko will be exhibiting at LAMMA in January at Peterborough ( think 22nd and 23rd ) and poss others Riko usually put on a good show from alpine tractors to grabs and arms etc . Nowt like looking at one in the flesh to see how well its made .
  2. I believe years ago it was permissible for farmers to pull two EMPTY trailers or one empty trailer and a piece of plant ie trailer and bale elevator ,; baler and bale sledge etc . I guess it would depend if you towing vehicle was "agricultural " taxed . On the continent the use of tandem trailer towing is common , often with one drawbar trailer and the second on a turntable . We're in the EU which some of us disagree with because we seem bound by others laws , but not on this occaision .
  3. as previously said a lot depends on how much you are going to use a machine . Second hand can be all right if you know it's history just like any other machine , has it been regularly serviced / maintained , owner operated v ex hire machine . Some firms get rid of kit when they think its about to conk out , best used buys are from retirement sales . There are also tax implications , currently you can spend quite a lot on machinery with the blessing of tax avoidance but some years ago when capital allowances were low it was more tax effective to spend on repairs / refurbishment to existing machines .New machines can be more reliable than older ones if you keep them in good order . generally finance is easier and cheaper on new machines with really old kit being hard to borrow against . Its like everything new businesses' struggle against established ones that have a regular replacement policy .
  4. just been looking on the popular electronic trading site and found tree seeds for sale , supposedly direct from China in retail sized packet sizes . Wonder what EU laws on plant health they know or care about , .. I recollect that the outbreak of Asian Longhorn beetle a few years ago was via larvae in packing case timber , when are we going to learn the folly of these imports , it doesn't happen in Aus or NewZealand. Writing this whilst watching Countryfile at Westonbirt .
  5. that begs the question ," what is the profile of the average arbtalker ? " . I'm a 1 + 1 man band , 50 year old and still climbing ( slowly) , I didn't go near a computer until I was 40 , I would stereotype arbtalkers as 18 - 30 yrs, mostly employed by us old gits . I stumbled on to arbtalk some years ago when I googled a review of chainsaw . Perhaps one of you computer bods might organise a profile poll ! .
  6. Consult LPA by quoting a post code only ( they usually cover multiple addresses ) , sorry can't remember the house number! if asked . Search for the planning application on line with the LPA and read all documents that go with it , if its a multi plot application then a arboricultural report may be required ( for any one to read ).
  7. Little Bytham , next to the Kings Cross mainline where the Mallard ( steam loco ) broke the speed record .Use to have a pub in the village by the same name until it ran out of money to buy the beer .
  8. looking for self employed groundy with CS31/32 and chipper 38/39 would be useful , only part time at moment but if work is there you get to share, pm me with your cv , got to be safe , competent and turn up when you say you will . to work in South Lincolnshire / Rutland and Peterborough .
  9. went to Lincolnshire firewood fair today and saw ash logs make £130 for 2 m3.
  10. looking to buy a new tractor winch approx. 5 tonne pull , looked at uniforest sold by Riko , from Slovakia , any body have experience of these machines ? , good / bad or damn right ugly .
  11. no politicians ( British ) don't get it wrong all the time , they scrapped Ark Royal to save cost of a ship , this should have the knock on effect of saving service men's lives and £m's because we can't get there . You never , since Korea , hear of China invading countries that they don't like they just swamp them with cheap goods ! it seams to me listening to the news that its just Britain and its colonial big cousin that have to stick their nose's in same as you don't hear of Spain or France , Italy etc making charity donations to those less fortunate . Britain should re-deploy its military budget to border controls to keep out sub standard products and dole refugees .
  12. thanks for that input , I have opened a facebook page , bythamtrees ( chris Johnson ) but not padded it out yet , as you say I will have to get technical help , tree work is easier than IT .
  13. i'm a moustache man myself , just like dick strawbridge , I hate shaving but beards itch too much .
  14. because the email address came years before the website , and on the basis of " if it ain't broke , don't mend it " it remains unchanged ,
  15. launched my self into the 21st century two weeks ago with a web site , Bytham Trees - Tree surgery, crown work, pollarding, stump grinding, sectional dismantling, felling , how do you make it work for you , anybody tried google adwords or other suggestions to bring me to the top in my locality .
  16. Bytham Trees - Tree surgery, crown work, pollarding, stump grinding, sectional dismantling, felling , chris johnson
  17. have just done so , Bytham Trees - Tree surgery, crown work, pollarding, stump grinding, sectional dismantling, felling , chris Johnson
  18. you've just read a classified ad and you think just the job you ring up a mobile number to find it's located miles away , why can't advertisers say where they are located ? saves my time and theirs .
  19. some what earlier than a 5000 . its a fordson major ( possible power major )that looks like its been converted to fourwheel drive by "roadless" ,But it isn't its just got 4wd wheels on the front axle google fordson parts or ebay ! the're like mf135 , old landy's etc plenty of grey parts .
  20. dear mr Stihl , your idea of not selling your products online is some what going against the flow , in these modern times the computer beats the old way of doing things , whether it be promotional advertising ( definitely better than local newspaper ) or sourcing goods and services . I can totally understand the need to keep dangerous equipment out of untrained hands , but for those of us who are professional users with NPTC 30/31 etc , and production of that once should be enough to satisfy the above reason but if your policy is to protect individual dealer territory because some can't compete or don't have the financial clout to keep the necessary stock levels , that's definitely not justified , I would venture that you will loose market share , then you will listen ! .
  21. I had same dilema last year , usually run huskys 576 346 560 but went for ms 660 with 36 inch bar , cracking good saw well up to the job , but the 36 inch bar makes it nose heavy !
  22. loads o paperwork!! have to register with A H A , part of D E F R A to get a holding number and herd number ( for offspring ) , movements of live and dead animals have to be recorded in movement book and local trading standards for your county have to be notified of movements on to holding , veterinary medicine book , eartags or slap mark ( tattoo ) to identify all pigs , can't bury dead / casualty animals ( have to pay to be removed ). Free range outdoor pigs are wonderfull in ideal conditions , but this last year's weather has been a real test for outdoor pig keepers . If you were to cost it all out a total loss financially , but if you like it and its a hobby damn good fun but don't forget you are responsible for their well being , remember how pro arborists talk about D I Y chainsaw users , pig keeping is stockmanship , you need to know what your doing . Read up before you get the pigs . Good luck it can be very rewarding to see things grow etc .
  23. free home for logs north of stamford ( 20 miles from Peterborough )
