1. we've had same problem , had to resort to Oregon chains for 201T because Mr Stihl won't let F R Jones post me those nice genuine stihl parts ,
2. looking for self employed groundie or climber 2 - 3 days per week . Min requirements cs30/31 , prefer 38 / 39 and driving licence , for small team . common sense and sense of humour a must .
3. went to a model show the other month ( no not those with long legs ) and was told by a modeller that box was sought after for model cart wheels etc .
4. would any damn good climbers and groundies come and work for me and pay me for the privilege and if you really want bring your own kit , don't all rush at once !
5. we had Shaun this week for the first time , just the job . I'm going to call it the Heineken picker because it reaches parts other's can't .
6. is that the new place in Grantham ?
7. its the way we've slipped into , everything has to be certified , experience seems to count for nothing , your insurance firm loves it , keeps others in jobs .. even experienced people make mistakes but experience usually comes at a cost or pain .You're right most sane people wouldn't climb with sub standard kit but some times short cuts are made especially in hard times .
8. we all start knowing not a lot and experience is some times painful or expensive . So what would be your top ten tips / advice to newbies to turn them into valued members of the team sooner rather than later and not irritate old gits like me .
9. that one was on a merc sprinter and had a cyclone etc , no just remove the drawbar , axle etc and mount the rest from turntable ( 700KG ) upwards onto back of truck , leaving room for toolbox behind cab then tow trailer to carry 2 tonne ,
10. I 've been looking at truck problem aswell , a decent tipper costs a lot and then you still have the problem of the chipper being narrower than the truck which reduces visibility of it when reversing so I've had the idea of mounting my quadchip ( turntable chipper ) on a truck and tow an Ifor tt105 for chip (which is more visible when towing ). anybody else done that ?
11.
how did you get on with those poplar trees at Gelston ?

12. we had an ash tree that blew down back in February ,ringed it up and tipped in shed , now I find that it is probably got ash bark beetle because there is lots of dust and small holes , haven't seen the little blighters maybe something else , will the boring be confined to just the bark and could it spread to logs of other species ( beech , sycamore etc ) ? don't want to offend log buyers !
13. looking for a self employed assistant as groundie or climber , small business, min requirements CS 30 / 31 , own PPE . bonus would be CS 38 / 39 ; chipper and grinder tickets and full driving license , can't guarantee 5 days a week , if interested PM me chris Johnson Bytham Trees - Tree surgery, crown work, pollarding, stump grinding, sectional dismantling, felling, Bourne, Stamford, Deeping
14. that's no pollard , I wouldn't , try a thin !
15. Spalding area out towards Boston and Wisbech A16 A17 use to have a tulip parade with 30 + floats covered petal to petal with tulips , this time of year .
16. never seen any in this pond for last 30 years
17. just dug out old pond , has anyone got any frog spawn ( Bourne / Stamford area ) ..that I could relocate ..
18. know nothing of Valtra but generally a six cylinder tractor with a naturally aspirated engine is far better than a four cylinder turbo charged model , more torque , heavier but longer wheelbase ,140 hp should be big enough for a ten tonne trailer . Good tractor needs good tyres ..
19. we always used to put a 6" layer of oldish chip in bottom of cattle sheds , soaks up the wet and allows you to push muck fork tines under the mated straw layer , heap it in spring and it blends in , best on really heavy soils to open it or add body to sandy soils .
20. I have site 7 miles from Bourne and Stamford , what is it worth to take other's waste ?
21. is 8 foot high enough , won't take a tractor with cab , if you intend using a chain hoist make sure roof truss is strong enough if using as garage make it wide enough for two vehicles .
22. never tendered for FC timber before , what price are thinning's worth mainly ash oak 150 - 200 mm dbh ? extraction site not suitable for large machines . have been told that standing over bark is £30 / metre cube . I guess a standing metre cube equates to 1.5 metre cube of split logs .
23. I usually say tree surgeon , only because I think most people won't know what an arborist or even arboriculturalist is ( tree surgeon with a brain ! ? )
