  1. well we've got a 1999 Mitsubishi shogun V6 petrol with automatic gearbox , just recently the gearbox has developed a very noticeable whining once its warmed up that doesn't subside unless the vehicle comes to a stop , guess its going to be expensive or does anybody know of a cheap quick fix ? the gearbox oil is up to level and right colour .
  2. groundie or climber wanted for small friendly outfit , min requirement cs 30 /31 and sense of humour driving license and a can do attitude . cs 38 /39 a bonus self employed basis based in and around Stamford .Bourne , Oakham ,
  3. does anybody use wood chip , after fermenting , for domestic use , if so which boiler / burner would you recommend ?
  4. I remember back in the 1970's when there were lots of small dairy farmers in somerset with 20-40 cows . In the 80's I got a job on a big farm with 100 cows now 200 is small and 500 - 1000 is the norm with many big units being "zero graze" ( cows house 24/7 ).I started farming myself in the late 80's as a tenant but gave up four years ago because tenants on small family farms can not compete with big business . DEFRA advised farmers to diversify into other businesses to subsidise the main farm business but I decided that it would be pointless propping up the farm with arb money , so killed the farm of and now earn a better living from arb with out the 24 / 7 commitment of a farm . Don't be fooled into thinking that supermarkets screw farmers over prices AND THEY DO , to help the housewife they do it to make them money , and they've bankrupted many a farmer who has dared to complain .
  5. just reviewing the way I offer my logs for sale , all arb waste that is split and barn stored for 12 - 24 months . Have in the past delivered it in a tipper trailer and measured the heap in the trailer and sold it at price / metre cube but was thinking of offering it in builders bags ( 0.7 metre cube ) because I think it is easier for customers to visualise , a builders bag of logs rather than 0.7 metres cube just tipped on their drive . Is there a better way to market logs ?
  6. grand father rights were granted to anybody born before January 1964 but these are to be withdrawn this December . There is a transitional course that is not the full PA1 but it will only allow you to spray on your own land and you will have to already have the grandfather rights . If you don't get your PA1 and another module PA2/ 6 then you will not be able to purchase professional / agri chemicals and that will stop you , but some people manage to buy guns without a firearm license ! I guess we have to do it for insurance and create a lot of jobs and burden customers with more overheads .
  7. looking for a groundie , min cs30/31 and pref 38 . full driving license . important qualities are "can do" attitude , ambitious / want to do better and want to be at work for the job not just the money . a good groundie has a brain as well as brawn . Wasters and coasters need not apply !
  8. I had a 201T nicked of site this week , rang up local dealer to order replacement and found that Mr Stihl has had a 10% price increase since last October . He obviously thinks we're out of recession and its time we all paid more . On a more promising note the "old" 201T is now dearer than the Husqy " new toy price " 540 . Now we need Mr Stihl to relax his dealer protection scheme .
  9. greenmech quadchip 160 , only three years old . It has two interlocking plastic tanks , one for hydraulic reservoir and the other for diesel . The hydraulic oil tank appears OK but the diesel one has sagged / bellied out , probably will hold out but looks cheap , any body else had same trouble , also the rear lid catch mechanism is not that well engineered . Has anyone had a tank rupture ? . Greenmech , good chipper but has a few silly design faults that let it down .
  10. I had the same email , warning of attempt to hack my account last night . Makes a difference to " my dear friend I need your help . . . ." from woga woga land or " please verify your account details " from numerous banks ( ba45t348s ) that I don't even do business with .
  11. I have today made a little progress . after emailing the trainee clerical support officer with my arguments for not requiring a third party report he passed it up to a junior planning officer who has graciously allowed me to provide a report myself " as I appear to have an arb qual ". my LA is SKDC in south Lincolnshire , they do not have a TO but hire in 1 day / week a consultant but effectively only does site visits in my area alternate weeks . Been like that for some years now . Thanks for your comments every one .
  12. veteran trees retrench /manage their decline after reaching maturity but these pictures suggest that modern mechanical capabilities ( deeper ploughing ) are a probable cause , once upon a time that tree may have been part of a wood pasture , where ploughing didn't occur .
  13. I ticked the " NO " box re alleged damage / poss failure , just out lined a schedule of works ( re-pollarded to previous pollarding points ).
  14. we regularly apply for works to trees in conservation areas ( s211 ) without too much grief from the LA , but I have just put in an application to re-pollard 5 limes that are subject to a TPO (s ) and the LA has invalidated the application because no arboricultural report was attached . I have a level 2 Nc Arb and have started a level 4 course ( not completed ) , does that make me qualified to make a report in this case or do I legally need a expert with a level 5 / 6 degree ?
  15. that is so , sometimes you have to hold them up on their legs til the stomach rights itself , very common just before lambing due to extra size . twin lamb toxaemia and staggers can be underlying cause of sheep on backs ( being caste )
  16. Is there such a register , for arb equipment loler inspectors ? I have just googled loler inspectors and all links apart from one are non arb , ie cranes, mewps forklifts etc . If no one knows of such a list then perhaps some one on hear who's a computer whiz can start one !

  18. has anybody had an ex army lorry ( Bedford or Daf or RB44 ) . presumably it has to be re-registered after leaving the MOD , I want to get a 4wd 7.5 - 10 toner but register / tax it as an agricultural / forestry vehicle to avoid operators licence , MOT ( 6 weeklys ) and drive on car licence . Any body done this ?
  19. 51 years young and climbing is hardish work . I'ould rather climb all day than wrestle the stump grinder for an hour !
  20. when you graduated from a prussic ( DRT ) , did you go for an expensive / shiny gadget or did you find simpler / cheaper alternatives worked just as well or even better ?
