  1. 80% of what i sell is softwood (spruce and lodgepole). north of the border it is quite popular. Ty, you need to rebrand this wood. call it something like "polar heat logs" and people will buy it. alternatively buy an alaskan mill and turn it into oversize beams or railway sleepers it will defo sell then.
  2. ditto. nice clean site. easy to navigate. one small point......in the chain section when you get to the part where prices are displayed it is not clear immediately what the price relates to. you have to click for more info before you can see it is priced per link or per foot. perhaps bring that info up a level.
  3. up here you would be doing very well to get below about 16% however you dry it. as others have said a moisture meter and burning some yourself is the best test. about 22% is the cut off point for me. above that i keep it back....below that it is fit for sale. most of my wood goes out at around 18%. there are so many people selling fresh felled timber around me that 22% is SAHARAN to most customers.
  4. in todays edition of the evening express page 35 classifieds. 3m long birch delivered in 26 ton loads only £75 per tonne. based in Nairn. BARGAIN!!! hope he sells at that price.....it infers a tranny load of split hardwood would fetch £360 to £380. i can see myself doing a lot of business over that way.
  5. bob, who is buying it and what are they using it for?
  6. farmers love it for bedding cattle. not sure they will pay you for it. but most will collect for free and give you loads of sacks to put it in or load it away themselves. mixed in with straw and cowpats it makes an excellent soil improver especially on heavy clay soils (so i have been told.) failing that just keep storing it up.. the arrival of RHI is sure to push demand for pellets and chip thru the roof and there will be a big scramble to secure any amount of raw material no matter how wet it is (my prediction for 2012).
  7. i'm 3 miles north of huntly but i guess scbk and gibby marr are both slightly north of me (inverness and elgin). someone told me that only 35,000 people live north of inverness i.e. only 5 people per sq km.
  8. on what possible grounds does this exemption make sense. just goes to show what a nonsense the regs are.
  9. i'm on talktalk and not experienced any problems. i'm in rural aberdeenshire.
  10. if you are sensible enough to buy an alaskan mill you are, by definition, the right pair of hands:thumbup:
  11. I like to have about 40 ton left over by beginning of april. it means you can serve all the boy scouts who order in april and may and still impress them with the dryness of your product. it keeps them loyal. turning away orders makes me cringe and i hate to be in that position. this year there seems little chance of that happening unless with have 10ft of snow and i'm stuck in the yard. the only silver lining is for others as lack of supply must push up prices assuming the competition isbright enough to take advantage of the situation.
  12. i dont think they are excluded its just that both pellet and chip systems lend themselves to self loading. the seminar was aimed at farmers and estate managers who would have the space and equipment to store and load chip or large quantities of pellets. log gasifying boilers require someone to load them every day.
  13. I think the potential for fraud is massive with such a system.
  14. and for any pensioners in my area who may be reading this i will supply and stack 7.5 m3 of bone dry wood for the price of the winter fuel payment (£300).
  15. a happy medium between the two extremes would be fine.
  16. only sold 17.5 m3 this week mainly to repeat customers. rubbish:thumbdown: the weather has been dire. temps around 14 deg C during day and not much lower at night. thank god for the kindling sales. lets all hope for a winter extending into april:thumbup1: COME ON PECKERWOOD . WORK YOUR WEATHER VOODOO MAGIC AND GET THE TEMP DOWN BELOW ZERO:thumbup1:
  17. I went to a seminar two weeks ago about RHI. North of the border commercial rhi is available now. domestic rhi in 12 months time. the commercial rhi pays out roughly double what you spend out in fuel per year as measured by a special meter attached to your hot "flow" pipe. so spend £2500 p.a. for pellets and get paid £5000 in RHI. THey were really pushing chip and pellet boilers. log gasifying boilers less so. as stated above you must use an approved installer which means some of the gain is swallowed in high kit and install prices. RHI rates for domestic installs are yet to be announced but once you are in the scheme i believe rate of incentive will be fixed for 20 years. If i were you i would wait until the rates are announced before committing to ensure you can access the scheme and that it is worthwhile.
  18. description looks a bit sus. i.e. "This saw was bought a couple of years ago (brand new) for a project that never came off! And has still not been used so is Brand New!!!! It is a 2002 model and retails at over £1200.00"
  19. tbh I cant say i've noticed an atmosphere (apart from the DADIO threads). I never read rope or climbing related threads though so perhaps that is where the action is. give me some examples.
  20. for those with CS OCD............... Vintage Homelite ZIP Petrol Chainsaw. Huge Beast of a Saw | eBay and Vintage Remington Super 770 Petrol Chainsaw. Huge Beast of a Saw | eBay watch this buyer...he is promising more in the next few weeks
  21. Setting aside the cv enhancement.... You can earn more working at tesco or asda probably with better prospects for promotion. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  22. When i did my first aid course we were warned that if a caualty was pinned under a heavy weight you had a max of 10 mins to get it off. After that you had to wait for medical assistance due to toxin build up in trapped part of body that could lead cardiac arrest if released. Obviously in above case he was released in time. Also the risk of drowning in puddle might force you to lift after 10 mins without attendant medical help http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
