  1. £1000......bargain!!!!!!!! I recently went to a farm dispersal sale where a 1984 matbro telehandler (2wd) went under the hammer. No one looked very interested so i thought it would be a steal at about £1200. In the end it went for £4700. I walked away at £1800. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  2. Were you of the same opinion this time last year re snow in november? Snow or not do you think we are in line for a stretch of continuous sub zero temps? Btw i am 20 miles north of the cairngorms. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  3. Never turn orders away. If your happy to sell 100 bags at that price sell him another 100. Bird in the hand and all that. Other customers may or may not materialise. You can always buy in more to service new orders. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  4. In aberdeenshire or moray you would get around £220. £250 on a good day. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  5. What about highland forestry (Matt). Send him a pm. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  6. Your not the only one to suffer from this sort of customer. You did the right thing. When he calls you up in Feb or gets his wife to call you up just double your price. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  7. I do not know for certain but i did hear that they were happily buying in sawlogs to burn. They were outbidding the likes of james jones for the privilege. They can do this due to subsidies they are paid for green energy generation. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  8. If you already have the timber the next logical step is to "process" yourself. If i was you i would be looking seriously at electricity generation like the balcas plant at invergordon. Assuming you have access to large volumes of timber. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  9. I know very little about forestry or mewps or how to make money in or with either. I think your main problem is making the jump from employee to self employment. Going from one to the other is a question of self confidence. If you think you can handle the risk, the highs and lows and the lack of certainty regarding your income then i say go for it. You will find there are no end of jonahs forecasting your doom but they are normally people who never take risks themselves. There will also be lots of obstacles put in your way but if you are confident and committed you will overcome or go round them all. As mr blair said above go with your gut feeling and you wont go far wrong. Make the leap and go for it. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  10. Steve, it all depends on your appetite for risk. If i can get hold of cord for anything less than 75% of what the fc charge i will risk my "whole wad". The discount to market price goes some way to offset the risk of unsold wood. Profit is the reward for risk taking. You have got to be in it to win it. If you do not have stock you have nothing you are not in the game. I view my stock of cord as an indexed linked bank account . I would rather my money is laying up in the woods waiting to be chopped rather than be cash sitting in the bank earning bugger all. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  11. .... http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  12. 16% buyers premium!!!!!!! BW would of done better to stick the whole lot on ebay. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  13. Or change the plate on the trailer? http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  14. So to tow that trailer you need a landy or range rover or 7.5tonner? http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  15. I'm still confused despite all the above comments. Can i tow a 3500 kg gross trailer with my 3500kg gross transit tipper. Net weights are 950kg for trailer & 2300kg for truck. I have a pre 97 licence classes b. be. c1. c1e. d1. d1e. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  16. the cheapest and best by a good margin
  17. ditto:thumbup1: has anyone come across any customers who have bought from any national supplier? I have not. However most deliveries up here are subject to the highland tax and this maybe enough to put people off.
  18. Forgot to mention that if you have a good series of accounts try to negotiate the amount of the rent deposit down say from 6 to 3 months. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  19. Typically you will receive a lease document from the lessor. This will be your starting point. For negotiation and amendment. Definitely get a solicitor to handle negotiations for you and to review the lease docs. Make sure you go thru every clause and cost with a fine tooth comb. Things i would want..... Tennant only break clauses at suitable points. Fixed service charges with no annual % uplift. No additional exceptional charges like a new roof halfway thru the lease term Rental fixed for whole term of lease i.e. No rent reviews at break points. Only 3months notice to terminate at break point if you want to get out. Remember that commercial property is a buyers or renters market at the moment so be a b*****d in negotiations. Be very non commital up to the point of signing the lease. Give the impression that you have several other options that are all equally as good. You will get what you want if you play hardball. Take your time and do not be pressured by the lessor. If you sin in haste you will repent at leisure!!! http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  20. I do that with my bobcat. Original end cover for filter housing was lost so a pair of tights ( not mine) does the job. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  21. I think the market price is set by the likes of homebase or b&q. People look at price first then baq size and then qty of wood. Therefore you need to be pricing below £7 to attract retail customers. Wholesale pricing depends on how low you will go below £7 to win the business. As said previously retailers like to markup by 80% to 100% so you would be looking for£3.50 to £4.00 a bag (assuming an 80 by 40cm bag size) http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  22. I have been flat out since first week in august...4 to 5 loads 7 days a week but this week has been absolutely dead. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  23. Depends how rammed full the sacks are. I sell hardwood in that size sack for £5 collected. Softwood for no less than £4. In both cases sacks are full to bursting. These are retail prices. Have seen competitors bags the same size for 4.50 & 3.50 respectively but they always look half empty. For wholesale i would only take £1 off my retail price. Any less than that is imo suicide. Cost of cordwood, transport &kit is all heading northwards. These costs have to recovered. I'm based in aberdeenshire. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
  24. Also worth keeping an eye on the Scot-Ads and ebay . Look for items being sold close to you. http://www.kinnoirwoodfuel.co.uk
