  1. good tip. will give it a go.
  2. is that 50 miles with the additional charging socket installed or without?
  3. so if i plug the trailer into the caravan socket will it then charge say overnight (with ignition on towing vehicle off)? I cannot believe that you need a separate charging socket to charge the battery!! that was never mentioned when i bought it. VERY POOR IMHO. verging on not fit for purpose! Stevie, who fitted your 2nd socket? how much did it cost?
  4. oil does look a wee bit cloudy so may be condensation (water in oil). so i will change the oil, change the filter and check the pipe. If it is the pump then the machine is off to the great scrapyard in the sky
  5. vehicle electrics ok. had this problem towing with two different vehicles. caravan socket? I have twin electrics on the towbar but assumed that it should charge just on the normal socket. is thi not the case?
  6. Ihave a bobcat 611 that has an intermittent hydraulic problem. one minute all three services (up/down, crowd and 3rd service) all work fine. the next minute all three services are very juddery, pump starts to screech and then all three services begin to fail. problem seems to occur after 15 to 30 minutes of work if i then leave the machine overnight everything back to normal for 30 minutes or so then problem again. am using jcb universal oil (10w 30). oil is filled to correct level. does anyone one have any suggestions.
  7. As title anyone else had this? how do i cure the problem? where should i look? I have already replaced the ground and positive leads. battery is only a year old.
  8. I use the 421. working on your jack, a log deck is essential IMO. the 421 will just about hold enough lengths to make 2.5m3 of split wood i.e. a good transit load. as steve has said they are grossly overpriced for what they are. with hindsight I would make one myself (or get someone to fabricate it for me). i think the most important thing is to make it big enough to take enough lengths, in one hit, to make around 10M3 of split wood. this avoids the stop start of load-split-load-split. if the deck is gravity fed the max capacity is probably about 5m3, with a chain type feed the capacity could be higher
  9. IT IS A SCAM!!!!!! had the same thing recently when trying to sell a 4x4. Its is a ruse to get personal details and/or the kit from you without paying you a bean.
  10. does anyone own a "Country Kiln" stove? WOOD BURNING STOVES COUNTRY KILN INGLEWOOD MULTI FUEL STOVES AND WOOD BURNING STOVES If so, are they any good?
  11. Jim what do you run on the rear of your transit in this weather? I'm toying with the idea of putting some snow tyres on the back of mine but not convinced they will make that much difference. nearly got stuck up a 3 mile farm track yesterday. 1 hour with shovel got me out...just.
  12. I too went to an evening with Ray Mears. He has a real passion for his subject. His approach goes beyond the basics of lighting fires and making shelters. It also takes in the history and people behind the subject I would rank him alongside Les Hiddins the Bush Tucker Man ( Les Hiddins - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ), and Lofty Wiseman. Bear Grylls is showbusiness not survival.
  13. Kirkeness .......that's near Aberdeen isn't it?
  14. maybe stating the obvious but you can lift the container if and when you move:thumbup:
  15. Filing by hand is a knack acquired with practice. if you cant seem to get it right by hand get a clamp on file guide and use this for a week or so. it will teach your hands where to go. Also less is more..do not take of too much at each filing.
  16. but you will have problem with mould if storing green logs as these bags are not vented. if using secondhand bags, make slits in the sides first with a stanley knife. not a perfect solution and your milage will vary. alternatively pay the extra and get the real thing: BULK VENTED LOG BAGS (MOSQUITO NET 2-SIDES) on eBay (end time 26-Nov-10 12:37:10 GMT) there may be a discount for quantity
  17. I agree that these types of protest very seldom achieve their stated aims BUT what they do very well is send signals to those in authority / government about the advisability of persuing a certain policy vis their re - election prospects. Since Wat Tyler onwards such protests or revolts serve to illustrate to monarchs, protectors and politicians that they can only properly govern with our consent and not without it, wether elected or not.
  18. forgot to mention the little einhell log saw uses a 400mm blade (obtainable on ebay for @ £20) not sure about size and cost of blades for the two bigger saws.
  19. I season my wood outside in vented bags, sitting on pallets with the top only covered with tarps or old corrugated sheets. a barn to dry stuff is nice if you have it but it is not essential. I would say that the most critical thing is airflow and then temperature. get the wind howling thru it but keep the rain off. a container kiln could work but as mentioned above uniform airflow would be a problem. I dont think you could just load it up willy-nilly. you would need to stack every piece of wood that went into it to ensure channels for the air to circulate . that is a cost in itself. there would be a cost to power your fan or fans. with regards to heating if you could use woodchip or sawdust waste (from your processor?) that could be cost effective. If you have to use your own firewood to burn I would say forget it and stick to normal airdrying unless you can sell your final kilned product for £160m3 as some seem to do. Also i would not place the fire inside the kiln. one little spark and your wood is gone. burner outside / heat transfered inside as hot air or use radiators. if you already have the container , burner and fans and fuel source go for it. if you have to buy them in i would say do not bother
  20. yes i wonder...............
  21. cheers old hand. will give them a go. do you know if the chainsaw belt has to be toothed. what is the reason for the toothed belt anyway? grip?
  22. If I was looking around for a much bigger capacity machine i would also look stateside. I know there may be issues with CE compliance (if you employ staff to run the machine) and there may be import duties etc but take a look at these badboys..... especially the "rapid loco" a snip at $65k CRD Metal Works, Manufacturer of the Woodbine Family of Firewood Processors -
  23. fantastic avatar:lol: i need to get a bumper sticker made up of that.
  24. bob i run a 1x37( Easy control) Hakki owned for just over a year and had about 1000 ton pushed thru it. (90% softwood) I have not managed to trash any bearings yet but i am a maniac with a grease gun! I give every nipple a pump at least once a week. However i do go thru lots of belts. to date 6 sets of 3 off the main gearbox and 3 chainsaw belts. I use standard tractor belts as replacement and i suspect that they are not quite tough enough. maybe a belt made of a harder compound if available, would be better. they do seem to stretch every 50 tons or so. I suspect that the less sharp the chain is the more stress / wear in the drive belts. The chain may still cut but not easily enough. not yet seen any sign of wear on the infeed or out feed belts. how are you loading yours? I presume you have a log deck. if this is set at too steep an angle it can batter the infeed conveyor especially if you putting big diameter lengths thru. consequent stress on deck bearings and infeed belt and rollers. I have noticed a small oil weep on the gearbox / pump but this is very small and has not got any worse. this started when the pto shaft i was using failed (sent shock thru machine?) specifically what belts have failed on yours?
