  1. THe good thing about ebay is that there is a clear electronic paper trail to back your assertions. If it were me I would tell him that unless he produces the trailer for your winning bid price you will action the matter in the county court. My experience is that a letter from a solicitor along these lines nearly always produces results without the need to actually go to court. Depends how badly you want the trailer.
  2. So, you have various lengths of Oak, Beech and Sycamore suitable for milling but you currently have no customers. What would be the best dimensions / thicknesses to cut out of each type of wood now, with the aim of selling the milled timber on at a later date? what sizes will maximises your chances of selling and at a decent price?
  3. It is a Franco Belge range with two big square hot plates and an oven (light brown in colour, I think they mostly came in brown). also does the hot water and central heating. probably about 12 years old and it came with the house. As long as you are using dry wood it works a treat for the hot plates, hot water and heating but the oven is slow. If you use coal you can smelt metal in the oven and send the pipework into a frenzy of knocking and venting steam! (as i found out when we first moved in, and, due to inexperience, I overloaded the firebox).
  4. has anyone got any idea of the costs of operating equipment powered via a 3 phase supply rather than being PTO driven? I know the costs of getting a 3 phase supply installed are often exhorbitant but what about using a diesel generator to supply the current? currently Machinemart are offering a 17kva diesel genny for £4160 exc. VAT see here: Clarke Heavy Duty Diesel Powered Generator 3-phase - TX3/ES3 - Machine Mart. I know a tractor can be used for other things but if you want a fixed setup in a barn without fumes and excessive noise inside the building it must be an option. I suppose the nub of the question is which is more fuel / cost efficient: a tractor driven pto, a diesel genny or a 3 phase grid supply?
  5. I will give it a go tonight. thanks for the tip!
  6. How big is the firebox in your stove and roughly how many 16" lengths can you load it up with in one go? I have a wood fired range that also provides hot water and central heating. The fire box is approx 15" x 15" x 12" and try as I might i cannot get it to last the night without having to re light in the morning if i'm burning wood of any sort even when damped right down. It will just about go 7 hours if i use coal. I'm thinking that the size of firebox / quantity of fuel loaded last thing at night is the critical factor
  7. look here for a cheaper alternative 2200W Log Cutting Saw - Machine Mart
  8. is that with a tajfun deck? I thought it only came with that little "pick me up / put me up" type affair May i also ask who quoted you?
  9. once you have split into billets and seasoned what are you using chop up the billets?
  10. For the 2054 THS (i.e. PTO only) the starting price is £12450 plus VAT Obviously with a bit of negotiation this will come down and the dealers (Marshalls, Hartfield , Sussex) seem very keen to demo and sell some units. Yet to see it in anger.
  11. Has anyone had any experience with the Dalen 2054 processor? How does it compare with the equivalent Hakki? Pricewise, it seems to be on a par with the Hakki 1x42. However the Dalen can cut up to 44 cm diameter timber. Also , any parts / service horror stories?
  12. Probably because they are poking 16 ton onto a knife designed for a 5 ton machine
  13. I spoke to them today to sound out a price on both machines. They are looking for offers in excess of £20k for each machine. Seems pricey but then I'm not sure how much they are new. The repo man there told me that both machines were bought with the aid of grants by fraudsters who trousered the grant money and did a runner. I suppose they were lucky to get the machines back! Neither machine has done a stroke of work apart from chop a few demo logs
  14. Are you buying in wood or is it from your own jobs? Reading various other threads it appears that £42 a ton cordwood hardwood delivered for splitting is not uncommon.
  15. It depends what you can sell the end product for in your area. I would buy all I could get at this price! Up here in north east Scotland any seasoned hardwood split logs will go for between £100 and £120 per trailer load (1.5m3 to 2.0m3) so £12.50m3 to buy in is a bargain!
  16. have you tried Strathbogie Saw Service in Huntly....not too far from your location
