  1. If you look at the terminology of the statements, then reflect upon how words may have been overlooked in knee jerk reaction responses, then you can see that they are statements to guide those submitting applications. The use of 'clearly identified health and safety implications' denotes that the usual submittance of 'I can not sunbathe' mentality to tree management will not be accepted. A long-term vision of aesthetically pleasing, urban contributing, and safe for retention; within the surrounding area trees, seems to be the councils objective in my opinion. The safety aspects are in keeping with the guidance of current best practice for tree management and reducing the risk averse society that has evolved. The other aspect to consider is the cost implication of councils looking through endless tree work apps that are not in keeping with environmental mind-sets that are trying to be adopted and implemented by people with a broader awareness of the vital contribution that trees play in the planet. Only by slowly changing the awareness and respect of trees by the 'not in my back yard' masses will we benefit from the variety of attributes trees possess for our planetary existence.
  2. Had a tiny fragment of sawdust behinds blade once when left someone to change my blades, cracked it good and proper. Danger of trying to clean out blade edge thingy to much is you carve a groove into it. At least those that owned my chipper prior to me did. Wire brush and a compressor blow out. Then wipe down blade with clean rag, wearing gloves, safety goggles and steel toecap boots to protect yourself. Lol. Just covering my back. Lol.
  3. Lol, I use a ratchet strap as my belt, has same principle to the women of the 1940s etc that used to wear corsets. Helps me squeeze into the treemotion. Don't start down the pie route, its endless pain and anguish every time gregg's gets mocked as a pastry shop for peasants. You just know that the taste sensation will return every time you see a pie
  4. Do FR jones have a kids section then? Do you have a picture on them of a chainsaw in pretty, bright colours too? Aww bless. Don't think was ever a 30 waist.. Came out at 10lb10oz and that was it... Mum shopped at high and mighty for my school uniform
  5. Have you not seen the shoulders on him in real life?..... THE 'V' springs to mind.....haha
  6. Tip master springs to mind, but im sure there was another one that was tad cheaper
  7. So you selling the canter? Was just picturing how tidy your setup will look on big jobs with that very tidy canter, and the Iveco in the same colour scheme. Iveco alone will be nice though. Where will all your tools go? Are you looking to have some small fuel tool boxes etc installed on the underside of Iveco? Had a look on one of the vehicle building adverts up the side of arbtalk pg yesterday and there are some very handy ready to go under body tool boxes available. Prices are keen too. Nice trucks
  8. Have been with lycetts for 17years. Always leave till last minute and end up just renewing with them. This year I got proactive and shopped around earlier than previous years. Found many cheaper quotes, but once I actually read the small print, and I hasten to add I was quite thorough with it, I soon found out that lycetts did have the most comprehensive & widely written policy. When I asked for like for like wording guess what, other premiums went up. This widely written policy filled me with confidence, and although the cost was dearer, I was buying what I deemed a better policy for my protection. Of course this was within my personal, not general circumstances. Horses for courses to sum, but I read up and decided accordingly. P.S. Enjoy reading the small print!!! lol
  9. I thought that the breed labradoodle was scraping the barrel.... What name you going to call the puppies?? Rhodesian stockbridges!!!!!!!
  10. Passed management day last year. Treelife will tell you to expect your life to be turned upside down, and you will stand there and say ok, and sub-consciously you will be thinking it will be alright ill manage etc. But never a wiser word be said, Prof Dip will test your resolve, your relationship with your wife, kids, mates, workmates, the dog and anything else that you currently have in your life. My gf nearly left me by the last few months. I did it the old way and it was significantly harder than tech cert. But the new way is extremely heavy. You will come out the other end, if you're lucky haha, with an abundance of knowledge that you will be able to apply. It is the application of the knowledge that is fundamental to passing PD Arb, you just have to acquire the relevant knowledge to do it. At least it was when I did it. Good luck, and I am not being dramatic but you are going to need it. Treelife are very good at their teaching in my opinion by the way.
  11. Celtis australis maybe?
  12. I may have misread this, but are they not Lombardy poplars? How does an avenue of Pops reiterate the case for an avenue of leylandii? OP. Is it an avenue of leylandii in question? I think Peter may be right in that the case wording is very specific to that particular conservation area and has been judged or given merit on the local amenity of the particular conservation area, not that of a tree variety/form growing on the British Isles, within its suburban and country settings. Although, it is a Friday and having just tried to work out what is going on with the 2007 'how was your day' thread, arbtalk tonight is confusing me.
  13. My mamma always said..... "Life is lark a box oh chocolats....you neva know what yar gonna gehrrrrt!!!"
  14. Try A-plan Shirley Birmingham branch, ask for Ashley or alex. 0121-7334848 Very thorough and comprehensive. P.S. mention my name, I had such a complicated policy they should remember me......!,
  15. Never doubted the ability of such a fine gentleman like yoursen. Set for positive retention now be that ma'boy!!!
  16. The pic taken from the fence side at the start was a true reflection of the spec not being met. What did the tree look like after the work had been done from that angle Steve? Did it look just as bad, hence why you didn't upload that pic? Just toying with your emotions!! Looks nice, as said by Bolam turd polished.... From that angle!!!!!!
  17. The AAs AWG drafted out guidance on Terms and Conditions of business. Have a look on the AA website under 'help for arborists', it MAY be of some benefit, it may not suit your needs. Depends what your after.
  18. The difference is knowing how to ascertain when you buy a second hand wagon as to whether the body was fitted by 'approved' body builders, or factory fitted or the old 'homemade'. Most of the onestop bodies by ford are factory fitted, but I wouldn't know where to start for identifying others. Is that the case then as you say, an 'approved body' will have a serial number for certification means I presume?
  19. It is available as a book. That's all your getting as I have no clue where. Bet treesource would have it though. Very heavy going in my opinion.
  20. Have just taken out new insurance on newer van. Old van for some reason was insured as a tipper, but was documented as a van, as their system wouldn't allow the correct vehicle description to be documented. Had cover letter from company saying that although the cert said 190 transit van, they and the underwriters were aware it was a tipping vehicle. Whether this would have stood up in court I do not know. However, new van, is log booked as a t350 140, specialist body fitted, when I continually kept re-emphasising it was a tipper with toolbox etc, and that I believed it had been modified, they eventually agreed that they were unable to insure modified lorries. Also, had a 74 year old driver on policy and although some companies were claiming that they were able to insure said aged driver, a company that have friend work at, said that the underwriter for the cheapest broker does not insure tippers, or drivers over 65. First company claim that they have special buying powers with underwriter? Whilst this isn't unheard of I was sceptical and ended up going else where. As for declaring that the vehicle had a flashing orange beacon, well that just released a whole can of whoop ass on me.. Practically having hissy fits on the phone claiming that beacons are often un-insurable under standard policies, because they enable you to just pull up anywhere and consequently cause an accident. Tell them every last detail of your vehicles if I was you.. Do not give them a chance to worm their way out of paying up should it all go wrong one day People say just tell them it is a transit tipper, but you really are best to inform of everything. Mines got a scratch below the front bumper on their records now... haha
  21. This has been a great thread. Great advice. cheers!!
  22. Place them in B3. I seem to remember the category C3 also was regarded as trees with ecological value if retention was not 20 years. But that is not documented, purely discussion. One thing that does become apparent is that as long as you can defend your decision then it is not an issue. If you placed said trees in B2 and it went to appeal and you said well the trees are of significant contribution to the wider landscape at present, than other trees on the site with little or no landscape contribution and they were 'merely' selfsets of reasonable quality would that not alter the categorisation' and possibly place said sycamore in Cat C justifiably? Seems to me that you would be showing consideration for trees in there current setting amidst the immediate landscape area and that of the wider. Its hard to comment on such things when the site has not been seen in my opinion. Justification to any decision is key.
  23. I use GUNK drive clear, keep it in the van, does work. A good stiff brush and hot water to clean right up after.
  24. For some reason im thinking walnut for the second. But maybe too obvious
  25. Mutely, do you live in a house in the woods, with a huge sloping roof at the rear, make sweet chestnut tiles too. You look like chap who was tour guide on a FC/Oxford con group day I attended last August.
