  2. It makes a bigger plop when it hits the floor though
  3. Knew the right man would be along soon
  4. The problem there is that if in doubt it usually means your bottles gone on this job and climbing higher normally means the legs are a gogo dancing!!!! lol
  5. P.P.S. enjoy this experience. lol
  6. And relating that back to le sang post, if you are not experienced enough to work out just how deep a gob you can put in/ get away with before it closes up on you, then maybe it is not a job for you yet. But deeper gob sounds good and make sure you have them ropes sinched up nice and tight, and flick the off switch as soon as it goes as you drop the saw and hang on for dear life as your groundy gets covered in your proverbial exiting your rear out of your type Cs. Lol. It should be fine though, just go with it. good luck.. ''corr blimey someones gona have fun tomorrow!!!!!'' Of course im just winding you up, enjoy and keep safe P.S. Put a couple of good side cuts in too, reduce the hinge holding capacity.
  7. tree bloke, Check the AAs website under help for arborists icon. Peter annetts notes on the changes to the Town and country planning act are on there, and may give complete clarification of the situ, but from memory, and don't quote me, but for 211s im sure that the amount of detail is not as detailed as it is for tpo'd trees. That is if 211s are for conservation areas. Amazing how quick you forget when you are not revising/studying. I never use google earth and always do a very poor hand drawn sketch plan, not to scale or anything, scan it in and send. Doesn't ooze professionalism but hey ho. I will sleep tonight....just
  8. From choggington on cbeebies, chog the trains together
  9. Consultancy is no different to contracting. How long have you been consulting for, what are your past experiences etc etc. the consultants fees questions are just as in depth and varied as those of contracting or freelance climbing. Work out your survival budget and then add on what ever you want, depending on whether you want the consulting job desperately for experience sake, or also consider what type of car you wish to drive, VW, mitsi, Ferrari, Maserati, and what cloth you want for your tweed jacket, and where your tweed jacket will be tailored. Also as per contracting, depends on; location, client, task involved, duration of works, how many hours of work you will be at home, travel costs, site visits, any cad work that may be required. The list as per contracting is endless, and many will give a variety of rates to charge. As is the case with contracting, these may often not be suitable to your particular circumstances. Your time is what you value it at, as to whether you get the job, that's up to what others value your expertise and time at.
  10. I just deploy the batfink wings....like steel!!! I know what you mean though. Bought some carbonfibre; I think, spikes, always forget the make, they are great but very bulky under the boot, the old ones fitted snuggle into the heel, and didn't feel so clumbersome when climbing around the tree. But were god awful after few hours. Chogging is normally a 15-20ft stem, or few, and doesn't seem worth coming down for spikes.
  11. In 18 years of climbing I have never seen that before, that is if I interpret your set up as identical to that on the vid. I would have to get my trust in the figure of 8 first though, but that seems a lot simpler than attaching a main line and hitch to the stem. Where I often find I cant get good friction/secure positioning. But then again, I hate my spikes and often go for the peg route, when its only a short length of timber to chog. Learnt a lot from that video, good find in my opinion. Le sang, I too do the same as you, but on occasions I get twitchy that main line will pop off as I hand ball the lump off... sometimes easing large lumps up and over into a specified drop zone, not a free fall anywhere scenario. I try not to cut at head height when chogging and find myself level with the cuts.. Enables me to handle the section to be chucked better. Its one off my big paranoia's about chogging.
  12. You would be amazed what the mind can tune into. I used to get up to feed my youngest during the night, and noticed a van would pull up over the road some 50m away from my house. The van would turn up every Thursday at 4.30am and drop something off at the painter and decorators house who lived over the road. It would take a matter of minutes to occur. This went on for about two years, and every Thursday id be woken up by this event occurring. Stick a bee in some-ones bonnet and watch it irritate them. I personally wouldn't leave my wagon for ten minutes idling on the drive before 6am at the earliest. But we all have different tolerance levels. Look at some of the tolerances people have for each other in here haha.... However I also do not do my after maintenance saw start when im at home if it can be helped. I wait till out on the job and make it my priority task. I know many business men who have had to accept the cost of relocating their business activities due to neighbourly complaints. As your business grows there will be something at sometime that you have to do that will constitute 'business at home' beyond what is permitted, and guess who will be there to tell you about it? The neighbour... I would seriously consider as to whether you do nothing and carry on as if nothing is going to happen. Wind him up at your peril would be my advice!!!
  13. Professional advice is the key, we can all provide opinion, but that is what most of us are able to do, and little more than that opinion. I would imagine that your sister in laws survival mode has kicked in therefore causing her to suggest this offer. I would imagine that deep down she knows its good for her. Contact citizens advice, they can be known to provide excellent advice FOC. If it was me, I would just say, that you wish to run a business alone. Whether that be the current company trading name or a new trading name. Make sure your accounts are up to date to enable a fair assessment of past and CURRENT trading status to be considered should it go that way. I would not wish to go into business in this way from here on in. A working partnership is fine, as per that with your brother, but this one would be a noose around my neck, personally I think. Add up the value of your equipment, you could either be generous and look at replacement cost, or alternatively look at the value within your accounts to assess the depreciated cost. As an accountant I would envisage the Sister in law would take the depreciated cost, as it will be much less. Then consider whether the company name, phone number etc is worth anything or is it your face that is the value of customer loyalty etc. Look at any contracts that are written up, or are they all as and when verbal agreements, that could be taken away at any minute. If the latter, then maybe they hold little value upon a commercial business valuation assessment being carried out by a specialist company. If this was me, and this is a opinion of what I would do, not what you should deem fit. I would be looking to establish myself as a sole trader in arboriculture. Either by paying off the sister in law and getting it written up and acknowledged in writing professionally. Or set up again. Im guessing you have contact names and numbers of customers to hand at your home address, and they are not all at your brothers house. This may be seen as niggly, but you have said you have kids to, and maybe your 'survival mode' needs to kick in a tiny bit more for you to see what needs to happen for the benefit of your families future initially. I would be open about how you feel, and simply say you do not wish to look into the possibility of the sister in law being involved in the firm, and wish to 'dissolve' the company, or buy her out as deemed appropriate by uk law. Condolences on your loss. Good luck with it and hope work picks up soon. P.s. Just googled business partnership buyouts, Loads on there relating to it. Have butchers.
  14. Aberdeen were not playing that bad prior to his appointment. And in his managerial career starts at Aberdeen he had a couple dreadful starts to the season but luckily managed to hold on to his job. In today's game he would have a new team every season.
  15. And st mirren, I think?
  16. In his first year the club weren't phenomenal, the following year they finished second, the next mid table, the next year they started the season so poorly that it was deemed if he lost the forest fa cup game he would have been sacked. A banner was displayed a old Trafford in 1988-89, 'three seasons and still no better, fergies out.' He ended up winning the fa cup that year and it saved his man u career further. From then on he was given money and support to develop the team he did. The main attribute to his success however was the time given to him by the club to build that success. It would have been interesting to see if he could have managed other teams and been successful with minimal budgets as he was at man united with everything he had there, only then, IN MY OPINION, would i deem him the best manager in world football. He no doubt has had a successful career in football at man united, but he was given the upmost support. If he had have started his managerial career in today's game and had the same starts to the seasons in his first three/four seasons then he would not have lasted as he did.
  17. Dear All, I mentioned in the early pages of the thread I would ring fisa and find out, had a text through yesterday (bank holiday Monday)from FISA chairman Steve Lavery. He says that refresher training is directed towards Commercial forestry operators, not arborists. If arborists are operating on Forestry Commision land under a felling contract then it may be the case that refresher training is needed. He, as FISA chairman, has no knowledge as to whether the Arb sector is considering these training refreshers. That's from the horses mouth. Regards, Jaime
  18. FISA are calling me back to confirm if this is going to be mandatory for Arb, will post back when they let me know the situation.

    Day OFF

I'll throw hamsterporn in to the mix, google it before you comment!!!!! Ref. deleting.. I just tell mine im going in the office for an hour........or minute. She then says delete the history I don't want the kids ending up like you..A W~*~*R.. Tut tut...haha. Seens as though the gaffers commenting on it, I guess its acceptable hey Mr. Bullman?? The use of the word not the act of the topic that is!!!
  20. Went to the first one there, came away with heaps o knowledge and alternative working practices. Very informative day, take a good pad and pens. I Drove from Coventry to attend, we'll worth the journey. Hats off to the AA south east branch, doing a good job down there!!!
  21. 937kg there I reckon!!!!
  22. That's just daft! Run the saw through the over hang and stack on top, then put rope all over the load job done!! With enough rope over that and the edges tidied up that would sail past any traffic cop in my opinion!! if your mate carries on working /driving in that way he's highly likely to come a cropper with the blues and twos. That will be a days profit down the pan for fifteen minutes extra stacking work. Tut tut.haha... must be mad!!
  23. From my personal experience of doing business with this person, I would highly recommend contacting and dealing with Keith Irvine Plant limited. rebuilds machines to a very good standard and his back up service in my opinion is excellent. Based jct 18 M1. Near crick. There are highly likely to be other businesses that provide as good a service but just my opinion through personal experience. Often has range of machines available, manufacturer name dependant.
  24. Mr. nick Mr. Blair, don't suppose either of you fancy making a video of said machine in action and how too release, and maybe post on YouTube. Managed to get one from Aldi, but fear of losing my fingers in tension of winch is sending shivers down my back. I know that you are probably busy but we would all be eternally in your debt for such kind actions to hilight the value of this handy product. go on go on go on!!!! Will you have a cup of tea father
