The dress!

It's to do with the material, and how varying light reflects it differently. Google the dress and read articles. A scientific one I read explained it. Don't know how to attach links I'm afraid
2. That sentence there smells to me of some one who is new to forestry/woodland ownership. Seems like He was keen to get it done and dusted with you taking all timber standing, and has since done some research and realised he may earn more money doing the sales himself. If the above scenario is true, does he even have enougH money to cover your initial set up costs let alone pay to get it to roadside. When I spoke to a solicitor regards terms and conditions, he said I can write them as well as you like but enforcing them through the courts can be open to interpretation from the courts. Mine field, I'd keep an eye on this gentleman if I was you.
3. Sometimes you just wish you had never posted. #playingonmymind
4. Hasten to add, in all of the above situations, you would still have committed a criminal act if bats were present. But would have significant weight towards your defense, were you to be taken to court.
5. To try and convey the message of dangerous trees in situations where by you would be highly unlikely to get fined under WACA, think of it to this extent, road traffic accident, car or wagon etc hit a tree. Crash emergency teams under tree, tree looks like it about to fall over, if bats present the tree would get felled. I doubt you would get fined if you were saving the lives of car crash victims, emergency crew etc. It's to that extent that dangerous trees should be deemed dangerous when other legal constraints are present in a particular situation.
6. Firm in cov do it. How many men you got to get through it. When I spoke with them they said if get few people together they can reduce 'price significantly per man. Sure plenty folk in midlands who would latch onto this course opportunity of 'price was right
7. P.s I wouldn't want to test the theory in court. If the trees are in danger of causing an accident or loss of human life due to imminent failure, take loads of pictures of tree failure, log all calls made to relevant people, names, times, details of conversations. Proceed with great caution.
8. Lets say for instance that the root plate of said tree is moving in a mild breeze, or the main fork had split and both stems are still intact but are swaying and clearly failure is imminent in the next hour then that may constitute a dangerous tree. If said tree is growing next to the m25 and is likely to fall onto the motorway if they do go, or fall onto a railway track, that would constitute a situation whereby were you to fell the tree and bats were present, is highly unlikely that you would be prosecuted under waca. All related to value of loss of human life over bats life I'm sure there is case law about something similar. This is an opinion, and do not take it that you are safe to carry out work on this comment. I know nothing about the particulars of your scenario
9. That last point very true. I had similar situ before in a conservation area, tree removal had been a contentious issue and we were warned to expect the anti tree removal brigade out. Job had to be done on a Sunday to, even worse as was clause in planning approval starting no out of normal hours work should occur. I informed the developer that whilst I was aware that as far as he was concerned the approval stated the trees could be removed, there were some discrepancies I wished to have cleared up prior to commencement of works. They got very abrupt and narky on the phone, ended up having all the info sent through to me, and a planning agent of developer rang me to confirm all my questions. There are enough things to worry about when doing tree work. The last thing you need distracting you on site is whether you're going to be cobbled by council for breach of tpo etc. Get it checked, get it printed off and have in van with you incase anything occurs on site by neighbourly well wishers. I do think that arbs are seen buy construction industry as paranoid, over dramatic, and a pain in the neck at times like this. But we know the consequences of any unlawful tree work, and it goes beyond just a fine. Small industry, reputation can easily be tarnished.
10. Reduce and reshape back to previous pruning points. Retain 3-5 of the new stems/branches, in that retention of the regrowth, reduce them in length to approx 0.5-1.0m. Do not remove any more than 50% of the small epicormic growth present throughout the canopy. If done well, would lead to a well balanced crown resulting in natural branch flow retention, as best as to be expected. If not then I havnt a Scooby doo what they're on about. Contact council be best idea, but let us know what they meant.
11. If you have that retro attachment to the yellow elephant, then I'd say that little beauts worth a respray and new cal's. Proper finish it off nice I reckon.
12. Probably right there after re reading it. Although, doesn't the 18hp entec take 4 inch diameter? Get a bit of conifer that size and of length you can get good bit weight in that with all greenery, especially with a unseen squirrel dray in the end haha
13. Just wondering, does it tip up when heavy branches go through it? Does it need the free standing legs supporters welding on? Comment based on tendency of towables to tip up when weighted at chipper hopper, or is it heavy too avoid this? Cracking chipper that. I heard of a chap who had his towable chipper written off in crash; chassis smashed bent up, he ended up welding engine hopper etc too a big trailer, and converted the other half of trailer into the 3way tipping trailer. Apparently worked a treat.
14. Did the insurance company accept your quote directly emailed etc from you? Or were you informed via your client that his insurance had accepted you're quote? Not gospel, but I'd imagine that if he has filed a claim to recover costs for the damage, whether he does it is none of insurance companies interest. The same if you get paid out for vehicle damage but don't do the repairs, you still get paid. Purely speculating here. If the insurance co. gave you the nod to go ahead, wait for him to do the work and submit your invoice to the insurance firm. Obviously this is fraud so please do not do it based on my telling you to.
15.
Steve, does the manner in which I have tried to get attention to my thread 'free 200t' which actually relates to trying to get details of any willing sub contractors etc in my area break forum rules? Cheers Jaime

16. Nope!!!!! But now that I may have your attention are you a sub-contract climber, freelance climber or free the weekend climber? I operate in Coventry and surrounding towns, predominantly domestic tree work. If you are interested in doing occasional work for me then please pm me or leave details here. Just trying to build up a few contacts for now, and future reference to work for me. Thanks Jaime 😉
17. I use the youngman 200 combo ladder, have had for nearly15 years. Very well made. Bought a set of 10 rung steps too as easier to move. Young mans 200 can be adjusted if using on different level steps, not greatest adaptability for that situ though. When fully extended as steps with adjustable top section pushed up to max some serious height can be reached. In neighbourly disputes over branches encroaching they have really enabled me to get customer value for money from me, especially if relations breakdown etc. There is a foot bar/stabiliser bar for bottom which helps to. Well worth it in my opinion. But like most arb things, one item rarely fulfills every situation we encounter.
18. When down in London they automatically charge it. 12% normally, at the point of asking for the bill I kindly ask them to remove the service charge. I duly explain its not a personal thing, but I just don't agree with the concept. The concept as far as I can see is the restaurant owners do not pay high enough wages to attract staff, but still on basis of good tips potential, this offers an attractive deal in the eyes of people doing waiting on work. So I refuse to put money in the pocket of staff at the rate that is deemed appropriate to boost wages, whilst my meal cost boosts owners coffers. I always tip good service, even if food is very poor. But won't be dictated to, or socially embarrassed into paying the surcharge. If we are in big party I always confirm this before. I also regardless of the above, ensure that waiting on staff wait on me. If I need water, clean cutlery, sauces, I'm won't hesitate to ask and pester.
19. Phillip have s look at tree worker English braid and speak to them before you buy, were extremely helpful when I spoke to them with similar requirements
20. Am i right in remembering it has 6tonne breaking strain
21. English braid from tree worker, I personally think its a great rope. Good strength for diameter.
22. I wonder if a quick release mechanism for the battery would work, like a bike saddle. If it took you a matter of a minute to pop bonnet, place battery and close up terminals, would that be acceptable and tolerable over time. Admittedly this wouldn't be feasible at every time you turn engine off too go the shop etc, but overnight it may work. The next step would be that if you identify that someone has been in van, another plan would be needed, but for the first attempt it may deter. If they have to pop bonnet, then do key process etc it adds more time involved in theft. Whilst its understandable that the time taken to do such things in the morning will consume time and consequently money a period of a few years this would result in equating to the same cost of excess etc, possibly. Just a thought like folks. Any opinion?
23. Accountax consultancy website is very useful. Worth a read and flick through different sections. Theyre on the ball,it would appear
24. Re. Sweepstake, I say a tenner you get it off his drive and to the T junction at end of road hehehe. Always wanted landy, sat in mates ten year ago. Drove it around site to reposition chipper, once id done that I got out and havnt stepped foot in one since. Each to their own.
25. Thanks for the reply. I was only joking though. Perhaps should have put a smiley face up. Was just trying to add some humour to the thread. Failed miserably.... TAXI
