  7. I would love to know what my grandfather did, didn’t talk much about it when asked always changed the subject, so doing a family history search contacted the public records office turns out service record is sealed until 2047 I might just live long enough to find out!
  8. Once you have used a pro breaker of any make you won’t go back to a cheap Lidl ,Aldi screwfix, b&q cheapy more comfortable to use, more choice in steels and cheaper in the long run plenty of backup and spares although not needed much. if you need to dig holes I would get a second hand , Makita, dewalt or bosch they all have exceptional backup and repairs
  9. Get a secondhand bosch 16-28 off eBay great breaker and repairs by bosch
  10. What ever you do let’s see some pictures
  11. I would try to wrap a board around the curve to cover bearers screwed into the top of the pond you could then use hidden fixings or if the boards are thick enough angled screws to fix through the side
  12. There is only one way, it’s sunny and warm and four day weekend get the spade and dig a trial pit to look at foundations somewhere under the crack would be my first pit
  13. Before blaming the tree I would want to know more about the construction of the house especially the foundations my cinical guess is the surveyor will take the easy solution and blame the tree
  14. Why are you worried about heave ? Do you have cracks in your plaster or in the pointing of your brick work that move through the seasons
  15. You give no age for your property but guessing it’s post 1980s you might get some heave if it was removed but more likely the foundations severed the roots during construction. It not possible to give a definitive answers to your heave question without a site visit and trial pits and maybe not even then.however if it was in that position in my garden I would not be worried I would enjoy the tree
  16. So how did they fix it?
  17. I would buy it just to listen to the engine
  18. I’ve found Alsatian too small and not very protective also can be bribed with food my two big dogs one is 11 stone the other nearly 14 backed up by very excitable labradors and terriers very imposing and my yard is at home always a help if someone is around

  22. Add some weight to the head
  23. I run a old parmenter contractor on my alpine manages it no problems
  24. I try for 300 MM minimum very well compacted, sheeps foot roller is ideal, timing is crucial clay needs to be dry enough to not rut but wet enough to squeeze tight you cannot over compact the clay. Also dig a cut of trench round the outside of the pond 600 MM deeper than the pond base excavate soil then back fill and compact to cut land drains and stop leaks from old roots etc.
  25. My local council did this to me a while back felled a hedge obviously on my land (they had to climb over a wall to get to it) i recorded all my time on the phone and computer, took many pictures from every angle, and presented them with a bill for the cost of replacement and my time they ignored my first attempt but paid up when sent a solicitors letter, they paid for the letter as well
