  1. try Martyn Neve at Even Forestry, Stamford. he might be worth a call. Don't know his number at the mo but will try to get it to you by tomorrow evening. You might be able to get it off the net but not promising.
  2. I agree, but so is the carbon footprint for every single woodchip that goes into a uk power station whether produced in the uk or imported, but that doesn't seem to worry anyone
  3. We run a 1070D and its a cracking little harvester. Its the 2nd one we've had and is coming up for sale soon as we've got a new 1170E on the production line now. The 1070 is especially great for first and 2nd thinnings and is also man enough to undertake smaller clearfell work without ant real bother. They have proved to be reliable and strong hence the purchase of another John Deere to replace this one. We also run a 1270E and a 1270D.
  4. Has anyone on here tried importing any ready processed firewood in those 1.8m3 stacked pallet crates. If you have, how did it go, were there any pitfalls and how much loose firewood is there in one of those stacked crates. Some of the prices I've been quoted are quite tempting but I'm not brave enough to take the plunge:001_unsure:
  5. hi steve, i have been offered approx 100tonne of alder (still standing) near Rickinghall. would you be interested in a lorry load of it. would be looking at about £46/tonne for it rideside, and if i go for it, i would be looking at felling/moving it late october early november. have artic with crane and calibrated weigher which we use regularly to deliver it .

  6. I had the same problem with my 1x37 until I opened up the chain oil tap a little bit more to allow a bit more oil onto the bar and bingo, just tighten up once a day now .
  7. Is anyone going to this. They have got some top class chainsaw carvers going and we spent Wednesday cutting some very large corsican pine (up to 1metre diameter) down for them to do their stuff with. Will be going along on Saturday to see what they are making from it. More info on the living heritage website. Living Heritage Craft Show Venues - Sandringham It should be good as long as the rain stays away:thumbup1:
  8. Thanks for all your help everyone. Have fitted new bar chain and sprocket today and the machine is as good as the day it was new. Have been going mad today with logs. Only another 75 tonne to do now, mainly last years wood but shouldn't take too long now.
  9. mate there is another thread on this with all the answers, thanks firewoodman, I managed to find it after about an hours searching. I have now contacted Larges by email and will hopefully get a new sprocket, bar and chain ordered this week. Is that where you get yours from?
  10. That is the option, and thinking about it coming from me its a bit rich as I started up only 200 yards from a guy who sells over 200 tonne a year (although he said he wasn't prepared to take on any new customers which is why i decided to fill the gap!)
  11. Thanks for that all of you. I will try a new bar and chain and see how I get on. Wheres the best place to get them from. I would imagine Clarkes unless anyone gives any other options. Thankyou
  12. I have been processing firewood today with my 1X37 Hakki Pilke. Sometimes the bar will cut straight through the log and other times its just like its hit a nail about 2 inches down and will not go through at all. The chain is really sharp (sharp enough to stall the saw with too much pressure) and the bar is gun barrell straight and the oiler is working fine (about 5 litres in 7 hours). Please can anyone come up with any suggestions as to what the problem might be coz I am just about ready to to lose it with he machine. It is happening on both fresh felled beech and is worst on 14 month old straight ash. HELP
  13. Hi Felix, I used to collect waste cooking oil for a company that recyles it and they used to let me have as much of the recycled stuff as i wanted to put in my old vito van. The vito ran on it with no problems up to about 70% bio, but the problem is getting it started in the mornings if you put too much bio in and the weather is cold. The smell from the exhaust was lovely and the engine ran extremely quiet and smooth. I didn't make any mods to the vehicle and would say that if you can get top quality bio oil then go for it, but don't use anything that doesn't look perfectly clear in a glass container. If you can see ANY sediment in it just be a bit wary of it. I'm not an expert on these things but am just giving you the details of my experience with it. Oh yes, the fuel economy rose from 30mpg on diesel to 34mpg on bio oil/diesel mix.
  14. Strider, are there any marks or anything obvious that can be noticed if the trailer was being followed along the road. (ie: any holes been drilled for signsetc) At least that way if we have any suspicions about a trailer we are following we can back up those suspicions with something a bit more solid) I'm from Swaffham, Norfolk area but work all over (currently Ipswich area)so will keep my eyes peeled. Those scum should be filled with shotgun pellets Hope you get it back fairly quickly Cheers Mike
  15. Had a kombi system for about 4 years and never had 1 single problem with it. Fantastic bit of kit. Starts 2nd pull everytime. Look after it and it will return the favour. You certainly won't be disappointed with your purchase.
  16. What a great show. Took my 2 girls (8 and 10) who really didn't want to go but when we got back in the car said that they had really enjoyed it. Was nice to be able to put a face to Andy Collins and have a quick chat, and nice to see the car park pretty full. Its a fantastic setting for this kind of show and will almost certainly be coming next year. Hope theres a good turnout tomorrow. Mike
  17. Hi Tree medic, saw a cbi stump screw at Elmia show in Sweden last year and it was the dogs doo dahs. It was used on a 13 tonne 360 digger and would split oak logs up to 3 feet diameter as well as being used to pick up and move timber around the yard. Brilliant bit of kit but quite expensive Continental Biomass Industries, Inc. : Our Equipment : Attachments & Add-ons : Attachments and extras for efficient land clearing and biomass recovery
  18. why don't you have a word with a local farmer and see if they would be able to let you rent a small bit of ground. Where abouts are you exactly?
  19. The infeed belt on my hakki pilke 1x37 has broken today. Does anyone know how much they cost to replace, and how much of a job is it to fit a new one.
  20. I find that alder drys really fast once split, and when dry is excellent firewood. Would have tons for my woodburner if i could get hold of it:thumbup1:
  21. I LOVED it. Maybe I'm a sad old git but I think its soooo clever. Have seen it twice, first time at London Apollo about 15 years ago and last year in Dublin. You will love it. Where you gonna watch it?
  22. So sorry, i didn't understand the welsh accent. Too busy crunching carrots to hear it propper:001_tt2:
  23. don't know if anyone else has tried but cant get the categories to scroll down and there doesn't seem to be a category to use for firewood. anyone else had any luck?
