  1. what are you using the chip for. is it going for energy?
  2. its been a long day, sorry. I was under the impression that Vikki was trying to sell the 10-500, but from your comment obviously not. I take it thats what you mean woodpicker.
  3. I don't understand why you want to sell it after 2500 hrs. If its worn out after such a short time, is it really value for money. Surely it would be better to spend half as much again and buy a machine which will go for at least 10000 hrs without a major overhaul. I am not trying to be funny, just asking the question?
  4. what have you changed it for?
  5. I think he has left arbtalk, although i bet he keeps looking in
  6. Dynamic, Erjo, Bruks, Morbark. All pretty good and better than anything thats been mentioned so far. Don't discount any until you've done your homework. They may be a bit more pricey but you do get what you pay for.
  7. what is access like for an artic lorry
  8. merry xmas to you fella. have a good'un:thumbup:
  9. I'm not worried about getting them dry in the first place because they have been tested and are mailnly below 25 and mostly below 20%mc when I have tested them while splitting them. The problem is, does the mc rise alot if they get snowed and rained on, or should I put a tarp on them to keep the elements off once they are cut and split and in a long heap about 4metres wide and about 30 metres long
  10. Does everyone selling firewood always keep it covered or do you leave it open to the elements. I have always left my firewood pile open but now it has 4 inches of snow on it I am a bit concerned about getting complaints if its got snow on when delivered, although if its raining its no different and haven't had any complaints about delivering rain soaked logs. My logs are all under 30% mc when tested and most under 20% but how many people deliver with a tarpaulin over the load.
  11. You need to remember that you are not only wanting the haulier to move the timber, but possibly to load and unload it aswell. Either way the price is fair imo. You would only get a better rate if you wanted a dozen or so loads. Guys in our area would charge a minimum of £6.50/tonne to move wood a mile up the road
  12. Yep in my opinion you're wrong. Dry elm and beech are the only types of wood to have ever made my woodburner glow red. Wish i was near weymouth
  13. No I haven't but if you split a log and test it immediately its the moisture content of the middle of the log that you are getting. I always carry my axe in my truck anyway so if anyone wants to see a test done thats what i do and I regularly offer the service when delivering.
  14. Have you moisture tested them or do you just THINK they are dry. Most wood will burn even when unseasoned but it doesn't mean it is dry, it will just take longer to burn and give out less heat! I dont sell any wood unless its under 30% max and preferably under 20%. If any callers say they will get back to me when phoning, I tell them that if they want to ring anyone else thats fine but ask them to bring their moisture meter when they deliver, coz I have no problem with bringing mine. Am selling at £70/cubic metre and things are steady but this is my first year. Already had over 10 repeat orders.
  15. I've done it, think my mrs is going to have a tenner aswell! (and she thinks I'm an Arbtalk addict and soft in the head) Don't know why she really needs a chainsaw but hopfully she'll start processing some firewood for me:laugh1: Well done Steve, looks like you've worked damned hard and you deserve all the praise you get:thumbup:
  16. Hi Ed, Its Mike Farrow here form Norfolk, (woodworm). When I say 3 point linkage mounted I mean a machine capable of chipping up to 20 inch diameter amd crane fed with whole tree and brash and capable of chipping up to 100 tonnes/day on a regular basis. I have used Bruks and Erjo in the past and am looking into building a front fed chipper cabable of thinnings and clearfell material for an energy plant, chipping to a G30 spec. Do you know whwere I can get any more info on the conehead, it looks quite impressive.

    Regards

    Mike

  17. Does anyone know of any Bruks or Erjo chippers for sale anywhere in the UK. Could do with one as they do take some beating. Used to have a Bruks 801ct and have seen nothing to compare with it yet.(except an erjo))
  18. I think you are spot on fella. I bet you've always done alright for yourself and sure as hell he will be the same. There is no right and wrong and there's certainly not a rule book about being a parent. I've got 2 girls and feel real bad that I don't do a great deal with them, but they're not really interested in chopping logs or felling trees or woodchippers, but I love them with every bone in my body and thats the important thing, as I am sure you do your kids. All I say is keep up the good work fella. Your little lad will benefit in the long term, not just from you giving him a bit of graft to see what life is all about, but also by realising that all his school buddies will sit at home doing nothing while he is already learning a trade and hopefully earning a bit of pocket money and thats what work is for. Look out Alan Sugar, Shreks Wee Nephew is right behind you!!
  19. Was talking to Ross from AHS today and it cost £420k, but is still not the perfect chipping solution. I'd go front fed terrain chipper every time myself. What type of chipper do feel is best Ed?
  20. Theres about 300 tonnes of poplar near Kings Lynn which was cut last winter and is so dry that you can't get more that 11 tonnes on a 44 tonne timber wagon. All between 12 and 4" approx diameter. would make good firewood i think.
  21. Over a period of 2 and a half years chipping between 30 and 50 tonnes a day that is what it always averaged out at. There will always be variations with other wood such as spruce or hardwood but thats a good average to work with:biggrin:
  22. work on a round figure of 3 cubic meters per tonne of softwood chip per tonne when chipped green
