  2. Only 3 1/2 hours left to help The Childrens Trust. Another 50p anyone?
  3. Would never sell by weight, thinking of changing my truck and want to make sure that I am legal on towing weights.
  4. Sorry fella, its all seasoned and under 20% and its Beech, Sycamore, Ash, Birch. A rough mix of each.
  5. I cut all my firewood to 10" long and its all hardwood. Does anyone know an approx weight for 3 cubic metres of the above wood as I have never weighed any of it.
  6. In the Christmas auction last week, I was lucky and won a book called "The Art and science of practical rigging", which was kindly donated by Robert S. Unfortunately, the book is not really ever going to be of any use to me as I dont do arbwork, so following a discussion with Steve Bullman, I have decided to offer the book for auction with any money made from it going to the Childrens Trust. So start bidding for it and the highest bid by 9pm on Friday night (13th Jan) will win the book. To bid just put a post up on this thread with how much you want to offer, if it makes a fiver, great, if it makes 50 even better. Happy bidding
  7. How about an auction for it in aid of the Childrens Trust instead?

  9. How about a bobcat with a mulcher on, must be well under 2m wide??
  10. Sounds about right, I am 42 and paid nfu £550 for my 55 plate Ranger this year............. ...............and I complained about that !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. It sounds like you've had some great advice on here Andy, especially the tree inspections. If it would be any help I know of 5 or 6 forestry consultants in the region who it could possibly be worth contacting about this kind of work on large ag estates. I don't know a great deal about it, but how about becomming a training assesser for chainsaws and other kit. Whenever I have looked at doing any chainsaw courses, i would have to have travelled 30 miles or more, although maybe there are more about than I realise. Best of luck with your recovery Andy Woodworm
  12. Do you mean you were going to donate it as a raffle prize?
  13. Theocus That padlock alarm is brilliant, but how do you disable it without it going off when you need to undo it with the key? Do you just have to put up with a siren in your ears until you manage to get it undone Cheers Woodworm
  14. Good luck with your hand Stevie. Looks real painful. If someone doesn't want to send their best wishes following Steves accident, thats fine, don't do it, but to try and "stop" others from doing so is a bit sad really.
  15. We are going to be planting glaucesans, which is a more frost hardy version of gunni. Take a look at this website. Its incredible how fast it grows Prima Bio - eucalyptus specialists - promoting new uses for eucalypts
  16. From my experiance with my 1x37, it will almost definately be that the teeth on the chain have been filed more on one side than the other. If they are NOT equal in size/length, the bar will not go through the wood, however sharp the chain is. I finally worked this out after snapping the handle in a moment of tourettes:cursing: coz the damn thing wouldn,t go through. I ended up buying a new chain and starting again and have never had a problem since.
  17. Eucalyptus. Firewood logs from 1st thinnings approx 54 months after planting . We are planting some in spring, thought we would give it a go but from the trials I have seen it looks exceptional. Euc planted 16 months ago in Thetford Forest is now 10 feet tall.
  18. Try Trevor Neve at Even Forestry. they can get it delivered by the artic load to your premises and usually have a good supply. 07771 736213
  19. Martyn Neve - Even Forestry 07860 859633 Have large volumes of hardwood rideside at the moment at various locations
  20. The guys in our area use nothing smaller than a 25tonne excavator to remove pine stumps of that age and that struggles at times. If possible they use the 35 tonner to make sure they are master of the job. How about an air burner, almost smoke free disposal on site.
  21. Thoughts going to Andy and family. Hope you are soon on the mend. Woodworm
  22. I definately know of at least one contractor in Wales who is on more than £20/tonne, and the going is pretty good with sensible extraction distance. Even if you are investing £160k, you should still be looking to earn good money cos you will need it to replace and hopefully upgrade to a new machine at sometime. You really ought to be producing a minimum of 70 tonne a day, even in 1st thinnings.
  23. Personally, I don't think ANY of the figures you are working with are average. The drivers wages are way too low, the production is less than half what it needs to be, and the rate for the job is also way too low. You need to be earning at least £1600/day with a harvester + forwarder. Stick with the chainsaw fella!
  24. Ford Ranger, never had a spanner on mine and I have three friends who also would never even consider anything else. The new model is out any time and the write ups have been very good.
  25. In April, we are going to plant 2 acres/2000 eucalyptus trees for firewood. In some trials in Kent, they were big enough to thin for firewood after 4 years. if all goes well we will then look at planting about another 15-20 acres of them. Quick growing, hardwood and lovely smelling firewood. Looking forward to it already:thumbup:
