  1. As I understand it, if you are selling it as wood "fuel" which it seems you are, its only 5% vat. That price is unbelievable, down this way hardwood roundwood is going down in price, not up. 6 month old birch roundwood going for approx £35/t roadside max.
  2. If your driving a John Deere and you hear more than five or 6 clicks on the frame break and you find your self at a very funny angle think very carefully what do next and hand on; as your about to fall over. Thats funny, very true but funny
  3. That depends on how good you are. Do you know your species of tree, do you understand the markets, have you ever done any tree felling of any kind before, have you ever driven a forwarder before? I know of a so called "experienced" harvester driver who was taken on recently by someone, and he couldnt fell enough timber in a day to pay for his wages and the fuel that the harvester had consumed. Not trying to put you off but you really do need to have a good understanding of the business if thats the route you want to take
  4. So, I used my processor today, but beforehand went through a few things that had been suggested on here. The saw bar stop (when it goes to the up position) was bent and therefore the chain was hitting the bottom of the oil tank. Bent stop plate back down with hammer and its has stopped it from catching. The chrome on the teeth is ok so have sharpened it making sure both sides are even. The bottom of the saw bar had some serious burring so have turned it over. The other problem I found was that the chain oil pipe had a slight blockage so there wasn't enough oil coming through to the chain. Since doing all of the above, the machine is working as well as it ever has, if not better. Thanks to all the arbtalkers for your help and advice, muchly appreciated Woodworm:thumbup:
  5. Looks like my decision has been made for me. Dont like the iphone/ipad operating system so fancy something different, and my Blackberry is ok but the speaker and earpiece are both distorted so you cant hear anyone unless its connected to vehicle bluetooth. Thanks everyone:thumbup:
  6. Anyone got one, whats it like and how do you get on with it? Any thoughts appreciated muchly!
  7. Hi Mac I do turn the bar occasionally, but certainly not every time i sharpen or daily. Maybe thats part of my problem aswell. Thanks Mac every day's a school day:001_smile:
  8. This sounds more like my symptoms, I will look at oil tank next time i am there and see what I can find. Cheers Ed
  9. Wouldn't understand how to adjust the angle Thanks for your suggestions. Very much appreciated Woodworm
  10. Bar needs a real lot of pressure to get it through the log, the teeth are certainly not knackered, but as Steve said maybe the chrome has come off without me realising Cheers Woodworm
  11. Hi Bulklog I've been using that bar and chain for about a lorry load and its been fine until now. I dont think its hitting the oil tank but will recheck next time. the wood is all stacked on bearers so is pretty clean. Thanks for your advice Its always worth getting someone else's opinion cos you think you've checked everything and usually someone else comes up with the obvious solution which was right under your nose in the first place.
  12. Thanks Steve I will check that on Saturday when i next go to it, hadn't noticed that but then again hadn't thought of it either. Don't recall having hit anything particularly, but it is a possibility
  13. I have a problem with my Hakki Pilke 1X37. I sharpen the chain and for a couple of cuts its fine, then over the next 10/12 cuts it gets really blunt and looks as though the top of the teeth are hitting on something. I cant see what it can be hitting and the chain is good and taught. When I release the handle after each cut, the saw housing sounds like it hits the stop with a real thud, should there be some sort of softer 'stop' that it should hit or is it supposed to hit the metal stop. I wonder whether when it hits the metal stop, the chain is lifting from the bar and possibly catching something but i cant see what Any help would be really appreciated Woodworm
  14. I am sure I saw a cordless hand pruner (as opposed to a pole pruner) at the APF on one of the stands last week, but have been unable to find one on the web since. Are they available or any good, or did i see something else and just think it was a cordless pruner? All help appreciated. Woodworm

  18. Are there going to be two "Shards" then?
  19. when i had that problem, a wire inside the yellow box had come out of the terminal, take the box apart and check for loose wires, worth a try anyway
  20. I would imagine that the end may have snapped off the rod.
  21. I forgot to write an update so here goes. The operation itself went really well, just 2 small holes in my knee, just about big enough to get a pencil through, and it took only 14 minutes, large piece of torn cartilage but was able to walk very quickly and have had no pain AT ALL since the op. Unfortunately, as soon as my head hit the pillow after the anaesthetic was injected, i spewed up all over myself and the bed, which they were real chuffed about. Then when i got back to the ward afterwards, i passed out and ended up with about 8 doctors/nurses round my bed trying to sort me out. Overall though, if anyone ever needs a knee arthroscopy, please dont be worried about it, it is totally painless and the most difficult thing is remembering to walk normally after its been done coz u are so used to limping, its hard to get out of the habit. Cheers Woodworm
