  1. Two miles?!? That's incredible. If I ever venture up Norf then that will be well worth a visit. I did initially think of the insect bands that you still get a lot on fruit trees, but then dismissed the idea.
  2. Ah, root pruning... That would be that thing we all know to be BAD practice but we still do anyway What's the height of the tree, it's DBH, the diam' of the roots to be cut and their distance from the tree base? And have you thought of installing a root barrier at the same time to help prevent (in theory at least) a reccurance of the problem with the slabs?
  3. I bet it is when you take all of the Cath Kidson wellies and picnic sets into account
  4. Is the wild flower mix re sown anually or is nature allowed to run it's course?

What do you use to get such beatiful, clear macro shots? Can you try and keep your answer simple as my photo experience only runs as far as using the one on my phone - even if it is 12mp's

  7. You're going to forever be snagging your tights on the edge of that I like that. It's way better that the bit of old flooring board we had as kids.
  8. That must read as so dodgy to those who don't know what you're up to! Yes, I'm looking forward to it and not far of rubbing my hands together with suppressed glee No AA trade fair for me this year as I'm working tomorrow and I'm being all luvvie and at the theatre on Sat. I would've only wanted to buy all the shiny shiny geegaws so it's probably for the best
  9. Of cooouuuuuurse it was... My usual excuse is that I'm blonde . Oh, and A griseum has quite deeply lobed leaflets, far more so than the above piccy.
  10. A ginnala is deeply lobed and not palmate looking like this 'ere Acer negundo - Box Elder - leaf .

    Own Up!?!

They probably will come back a treat, as they say. They may look butt ugly now and there are going to be decay pockets a plenty in years to come, but trees are fantastic at self optimisation and give them a few growing seasons to get a decent canopy on them and they'll look OK again. Just in time for them to be hacked back again

    death by dog

Status dog = poor man's sports car It's very sad that there are so many mostly young, mostly men that have so little sense of their own self worth that they have to try and achieve social standing and kudos by the dogs that they own. Staffies, and other bulldog breeds, are generally very good family pets and are no more or less likely to be aggressive than any other breed. Any dog can be trained to be vicious by an ignorant owner; it's unfortunate that these types of dogs have the muscle power to make them truly dangerous when used as living weapons. Dogs being trained to strenghten their jaws by chewing trees is increasingly common, especially in inner city areas - exactly the kind of areas where trees and green spaces are most needed and more valuable. How do you engage these people and persuade them that "their" trees are worth protecting and not being used as dog toys? I have no idea, unfortunately
  18. ???? What does he think you do with your arisings? Run a log sactuary and lovingly look after them until they can be rehomed with a suitable new owner? How did he take your suitably dry and sarcastic answer?
  19. Is that one of yours? The style isn't to my taste, but it's very nicely done . Who's it by? Edit: I think I'm changing my mind on that; it's definately growing on me and I like more everytime I look at it.
  20. Google tattoo artists, find one who's style and execution you like and then go and discuss your ideas with them
  21. I don't know if any of you have been following his progress, but Eddie Kidd is due to finish his London Marathon today BBC News - Ex-stuntman Eddie Kidd set to complete London Marathon He and his support team have put an amazing amount of effort into completing those 26 miles and have raised a huge amount of money for charity. After the catastrophic injuries he has suffered, that amount of dedication to his cause is truly awsome. Well done Eddie
  22. I really can't get my head around those kind of measurements for a tree Some of the Squares here in London have decent sized Plane trees, but they're, what, about a third of the heights of your Douglas'??? What an amazing find
  23. They cause serious skin rashes, eye irritation and breathing difficulties. Say hello to the joys of Oak Processionary Moth. Oak Processionary Moth - Health Risks - Gristwood & Toms - 08458 731500
