  1. That's a craicing set of pics. That was a heck of a lot of weight on top of decayed pollard poits.
  2. Have you tried doing a systems restore to a restore point when you know everthing was working fine?
  3. Are you sure? Really, really REALLY sure about that? That's a corker of an oak Sean. Is it in or outside of the M25?
  4. But did you remember which day ? Thanks Lee for organising today, it was a shame it was such a poor turn out - and then I had to bail on you as well . Did you manage to aquire any more waifs and strays and potential new AT members on the rest of your way around? I only managed to get a handful of pics, none of which are of the AT Posse or of trees, strangley enough.
  5. Have you been on the vino again tonight T? LoL There are some free downloads from the AA publications section. Unfortunately, this isn't one of them.
  6. It's a sneaky suggestion made in good humour as I haven't gotten around to getting my own copy yet showoff's is the only copy on ebay and was dead easy to find
  7. If you can't find it on ebay, you could always plash your cash on a shiny new copy Ham. Guides - Arboricultural Association And then add it to the lending library when you've read it
  8. That certainly wasn't built for comfort, was it ?
  9. I use Google translator for looking at any foreign language only sites. It's not perfect and you get some occasional funnies, but it's a lot better than my grasp of anything other than Estuary Inglish.
  10. Thanks for the additional info Paul. I have friends who have already achieved this qualification and I know from them that you are already expected to have the knowledge and that there is no training involved as such. I was angling to see if cerneARB had been given any handouts or extra reading matter that would be useful to the rest of us unqualifieds
  11. It's a veeeerrrry rare, little heard of cv. Honest I can't wait to return the the pedantics when we test drive your 'site . How will you be sourcing the images? Will you be aiming to take a lot of the pics yourself? Have you approached any one like Barcham's, for eg, to get species info and cv info? Sorry for the twenty question style interrogation.
  12. I've got a pic of a "drummonii" to start you off . Are you sure this isn't just a cunning ploy to get funding to visit the world's arboreta taking pics in the name of, er, cough cough, research?
  13. With a note that it has tendancy to revert in one of the sub headings, of course
  14. Different phenomenom, same effect A couple of my local Norway maples (Acer platanoides "drummondii") showing reversion back to species type. I know this is supposed to be pruned out, but I think it looks purdy.
  15. A very big congrat's to ya cerneARB I know it isn't a training course per se, but have you got any itinerary info' or training schedules for the PTI you could share with us?
  16. You're confoosing me You have just descibed the entrance called "Main Gate". I have attached a map, so can you have a quick look and name our rendesvous, please, Mr Tour Guide? kppcont_028733.pdf
  17. I think everone else has been drawn into a mycological black hole at the moment I love the sound of your project and at the same time I really don't envy you with the amount of work it's going to take. I had completely forgotton about the basics in my list like the tree's name, genus, family etc. Doh! Sometimes it's so easy to overlook the most simple of things . How about another wafer thin catagory for singifcance to arborists, eg, brittle wood like Paulonia or heavy resin exudation that'll mess up your ropes? As for search options, I much prefer a series of drop down boxes where you can populate as few or many as you like. Depending on the drop downs, you could also use this function to generate a list of tree species for a particular situation when you're landscape designing.
  18. It's in da first post!!! I'm guessing the "rear entrance" in this case is Brentford Gate?
  19. I don't think it would. The reasons why people would be using your fine new datbase would be quite similar, ie, they've found a tree and they don't know what is is. If all the basic info is there and easily viewable and digestable, it would then be up to the reader if they then wanted to go further in depth with any additional info. I would love a site that combines tree ident and P&D as I could be lazy and not have to toggle between several web pages. I bet the average amateur would love it as well for the same reason. So what's on your list then? I've shown you mine, it's only fair that you now show me yours (And if I knew what a dichotonmous thingy was, I'd comment on it ).
  20. That's not always the case. Specialised, niche agencies do charge stupid amounts and frequently pass on very little of that to the worker. However, more generalised companies tend to offer a much better deal to all parties. I've worked for several now and the pay I receive and what the agency claims can vary enormously.
  21. My wish list, if you would be a good chap and whip up a data base just for me. photos rather than diagrams of the following with a text description: mature tree shown summer and winter (if applicable) bark, immature and mature summer and winter twig and bud (if applicable) upper and underside of leaf several different leaves to show natural varience male and female flowers (if applicable) developing and ripening fruit cross section of stem key ident' features rare spp and cvs described all spp in each genus listed, if not actually descibed geographical origin A brief description of these would also be handy: general indication of mature dimensions longevity water uptake soil pH and type tolerance stress / drought / flood tolerance commonaly associated P&D uses I'm sure I'll think of more, probably at some stupid time like gone one in the morning
  22. Excuse me a moment while I go and gently bang my head against something very hard...
  23. Sorry, I don't get that. Can you explain what you mean?
  24. I've got to get ready for work now , but I'll be back with a whole list of what I would like to see from and ident' database
