  1. It's been a while since I've posted but there are some brilliant opportunities that have come up with my current team that I thought would be worth sharing: Arboricultural Assistant (Tree Officer) HCC31930 - Bishops Waltham - Indeed.co.uk WWW.INDEED.CO.UK I've worked in LA for a ridiculous amount of time and this has got to be one of the best, most positive and proactive teams that I've worked with and this'd be a fab opportunity for someone to progress in their Arb Officer career. They're also recruiting additional positions through agency (Carrington West), so there's an extra level of job flexibility if you want it. J.
  2. Just a quick note on @Spideylj's post above - you can create an account and look at all of the maps and get the Title Deed numbers on the Land Registry site for £free. You only have to pay if you want a copy of any of the docs and to see who's the Proprietor Absolute for any registered property. Use the boundaries shown with caution as they are a GUIDE only and if said tree is on a boundary and not slap bang in the centre of the highlighted area, then more investigation may be necessary. There's also a really useful download available on the site explaining what boundary features, including trees, are and who is responsible for their maintenance.
  3. The Local Authority will have an Assets Team who will be able to tell you definitively whether the tree in question is Council maintained or not, although if it's not council they more than likely won't be able to say who does. Data protection, Crown copyright, etc. How you can actually get hold of someone in that Team and how much they will charge are different matters entirely! You can always start with having a look at the Land Reg site, but be mindful that the boundaries shown are a guide only. Most Planning Authorities are now catching up with the modern age and have an interactive online map to show their trees subject to a Preservation Order and where their Conservation Areas are.
  4. It's a well known fact that black bikes are the fastest and that's what all of the kool kids have. I realised how out of date my profile pic was as I've had an 18 month affair with a white 675 in between the red'un and the new one ☺️
  5. We're a bit backwards up here in the Didcot boonies.
  6. I could tell ya... But as I'm not a "gent", I'm not going to ?
  7. Done. But it's early and I'm grumpy and I'm going say that it was a poorly thought out survey in regards to the answer options. It also kept on jumping back to previous questions, while I'm in gripeing mode.
  8. I was having a quick play around with it yesterday. It's the first fungi ID app I've used and its very user friendly with clear descriptions that are to the point and some lovely clear pics. Cough... Not that I need any help with my IDs these days, honestly...
  9. Chondostereum? It's a funky colour whatever it is.

    knee pads

Aren't a million layers of soft fluffy wadding and stray woodchip that's inside you ballistics enough to keep your knees well padded? I found that a desk job tends to keep mine slightly less battered these days ?
  11. Anyone munchin sized with feet less than a UK size 5 will struggle with getting ppe regardless of their gender, although a lot of the harnesses do come in tiny / kids sizes. I'm a 45kg shortarse and I've worked with a couple of women smaller than myself and there is mens' gear available that's just about usable, although it'll more than likely have to be done as a special order and take a while to arrive. A bit like the pfanner jacket that I've ordered in an xs and I'm now sitting around waiting to be delivered... While all of the rest of the team's stuff is already here. Try looking at the manufacturers websites rather than their outlets as you'll get a much better idea of what size ranges they make, rather than the most cost effective ones for the retailers to stock.
  12. I'm disappointed not to see a mushroom in amongst them. ? Ditto and what @Khriss has said above.
  13. On the opposite side of the Thames is Syon Park. They've got quite a few of the lesser know oaks like canariensis, dentata and a few others I can't quite remember. Gunnersbury Park just up the road also has some interesting oaks, if they haven't been eaten by the opm by now. But as you're not venturing out that far, they'll have to wait until you've got more time.
  14. Google blackthorn or plant synovitis. I've had some right manky lumps from blackthorn, but luckily they've never affected my joints.
  15. That's coz it is a poplar. Populus alba, white poplar.
  16. At least it's not CONFIRM ?. (Although I'm a bit of a masochist and I quite like CONFIRM. We all have our foibles...). I hope you get some decent applications Matty.
  17. It's not exactly work, unless you consider balancing on the edge of the bath and leaning out of the bathroom window in a seriously ungainly manner as "work", but we've have some stunners here recently:
  18. ... People / Companies / Job Agencies that promise that they'll call you back within a specified time frame and then... Nothing. So you either have to chase them yourself and look like a desperate loser or sit and stew and use every swear word you known on them. As I'm, ahem, resting between jobs at the moment this is something that's really fekkin me off. Why say that you'll call back when there's no intention to? It's just plain rude. I would've got a right bollocking if I'd treated people like that in any of my previous jobs. I called up to accept a job last Friday for instance and I was promised a call back within the hour and guess what? I'm still waiting for that call. Grrrrr. Aaaaaaaaand rant over ?
  19. The turtle is absolutely amazing ❤️❤️❤️
  20. I'll see your analogy and raise you this one: Would you leave your shiny new iPhone on the pavement, go away for a few hours and then expect it to still be there? The answer you are looking for it no. Is it your fault that there are thieves out there? Again, no. Could you have done something to protect yourself from being such a victim? Derrr... Shit happens and there are some awful people in this world (I've met a fair few of them!) but there's so much we can all do, regardless of gender, to prevent ourselves being victims.
  21. Oh that's a given around me, obviously ???. And who says that it has to be a man, huh? ?
  22. @Yournamehere I don't understand your point. All I was trying to say in the bit of my post that you've quoted is that we are all so lucky now to have the opportunity to do whatever we want in life but that we all need to accept a level of self responsibility.
