  1. Are you sure it's not because you just don't want her whipping your a' coz she's better than you
  2. How about a little trip with the credit cards to Arb Fair North or even wait until the AA show so she can try a load on?
  3. Did use, more like. I haven't climbed for a few years now and I haven't a clue about what's available for the laydee arborist I started with a Willans T22 in xs. It was ok but the back support was useless and it didn't accomodate my waist to thigh measurement that well. For reccy tree climbing, I think it would be ok, unless you're secretly training the Mrs to be you subby climber? I also had a Weaver at one point. I could never get the waist cinched tight enough and although the back support was very good, it was also a little too deep and sometimes got caught under my ribs. Ouch!

    TCC Work climb!

Great vid' Rupe It makes me wish I'd got down there for the Sat' as well
  5. For what? Nothing to apologise for, hon. Although you may want to brush up on your observational skills
  6. Maybe it's because of where I live, but I wouldn't leave ANYTHING on site unattended . It's bad enough trying to keep the theiving dirtbags away from you kit while you're actually there with it. It doesn't excuse it, but if you don't give people the opportunity to steal you stuff then, they can't.
  7. ??? You may not have noticed, but women tend to be a completely different body shape to you blokes Deeper pelvis', larger hip to waist ratios, generally shorter and lighter... THAT'S why harnesses designed for men can at best be uncomfortable and at worst seriously painful. I can't think of any women specific harnesses. The best bet will probably be anything that comes in S or XS and is very adjustable.
  8. I think I've become far, far too sensible as I already subscribe to most of that!
  9. I can never quite get my head around those kind of concepts But at least I know how big a quark is now. Thanks for that (I'm liking the new avatar, btw).
  10. Ha, so he's mortal afterall? Ham, now he know's how the rest of us feel trying to keep up with you
  11. It's a very poor pic. I done my girl scout impression and went rumaging in the cavity (I could fit in there easily!) and it's definately Gano'.
  12. Oh, it's a place I know so well... It's a charming little alleyway between Northwick Park Hospital and the Uni in Harrow. I would take a guess that there it has something to do with one of the arty types there. In the Uni, that is
  13. Have you any idea how nervous you make me, asking me things like that??? They're definately one of the Ganoderma duo. As to which one...
  14. They're not exactly ironmongery eating beasties, but I got a couple of snaps of the two planes to the rear of the one you've shown above. They're monsters! Thankfully, no one seems to have done a detailed inspection on them as I doubt that they'd still be there in their unmolested form if they had. The cavity in the RH tree is supporting some pretty groovy adventitious roots and shoots complete with chlorophyll containing leaves in the darkness. Would they be partly or wholly supported by the carb's being released from the decaying heartwood?
  15. Here's a slight twist on the original theme. I came across this little bit of guerilla artwork and it's more like a trace of woodland persisting in man's world.
  16. That's not the best bargain I've heard of - you have spend eye wateringly large amounts of money to have opportunity of a good education. BUT, you get the BSs for nowt.
  17. Batsford is definately on my "to do" list when I've got a few days spare. Thanks for the great piccies. Hopefully, it's the incentive I need to get myself there as well
  18. Whether the price is justified or not and not wanting to get into the whole argument about research and development costs etc., why don't you just buy it claim it back against your taxes at the end of the year??? In that way, it will effectively cost you £0. If you're PAYE, then just nag the boss to get it for you. Easy
  19. My woolly thinking on this is that the presense of active xylem vessels through several seasons growth rings allows for water transportation even though the active cambium layer has been removed. Hmmm. NB Fagus spp. are diffuse porous http://www.forestry.uga.edu/outreach/pubs/pdf/FOR99-018.pdf.
  20. Is the ability to survive, for a time at least, related to the diffuse porous nature of the wood structure?
  21. Yes, I choose to live where I do and I'm the same as you in that I wouldn't change that for anything right now. But in all the years that I have lived out in the boondocks, I never heard that rare and beautiful nightingale song. To hear one, and to able to appreciate it, I think makes you very lucky indeed .
  22. We have car alarms to serenade us of an evening... You are very lucky, I would love to have a nightingale as a resident near me.
  23. Evaluating them for what, exactly? You need to be very clear on what you want to achieve before you (or us) can assess the relative merits and disadvantages of any system. Have a look at this as well: i-Tree - Tools for Assessing and Managing Community Forests It's used worldwide as a tool in management stratagy planning, including this country.
  24. That's a really useful site and is an excellent place to start delving into a particular subject. It's easy to lose rather large amounts of time just browsing on there. I know I have
