  1. Do you mean that it's subject to a TPO (Tree Preservation Order) or it's a a Conservation Area? If either of those apply then don't even think about carrying out any work on with without the relevant paperwork in place. If you're getting pressured to fell it anyway, tactfully (or not, depending how you feel that day) point out that you're not prepared to risk your reputation and a possible £20,000 plus fine.
  2. That's really funny. Who'd've thought it - taxonomists with a sense of humour
  3. Did you charge extra for the toxonomy lesson?
  4. You're brave - taking photos of cars in London? Don't let that fluffy green exterior fool you, people have been stabbed for less

    Ident plz

Scale insects. The feed by sap sucking. Heavy infestations can in theory reduce the tree's vigour and they can also be disease vectors. Pulvinaria regalis | Natural History Museum
  6. Of course you can - my fees are very reasonable, you know (joshing). Do you want me to get some more pics, say, of the whole tree or bark detail?
  7. Salt damage taking it's toll? That doesn't initially account for the lesions though.
  8. Oh ye gads, man... I'm looking to get something pretty good quality as a) I'm a bit of a label junkie and b) this is the best bit - it's tax deductable . Having said that, even I'm not prepared to pay a smll motgage for a Swazi!
  9. The organiser must be a bit dense not to have considered the terrible PR that cutting down such ancient tree would cause
  10. Hi SJB, with piccies like those you are very welcome. That Pacific madrone is a stunner
  11. Thanks guys, there are some good suggestions there. I'm really liking the look of the horsey stuff, the jacket on the link is ticking a lot of my boxes and comes in pink, haha The Stein jacket, even in a small size, was ridiculously big and made me look like a little kid in a knee lenght frock. If they came in a size 6 I'd definately get one. Unfortunately, they don't.
  12. Thanks . I'll have a proper look throught the rest of the 'site in a bit. I've been looking at cycling jackets and some general outdoor stuff as well, but I get a bit overwhelmed by the amount to choose from, so hence asking for recommendations.
  13. Can any of you recommend a decent, lightweight all weather jacket that is specific for women? 100% waterproof and breathable is a must and with a removable would be good as well. Also, reasonable bramblepfoof would be an advantage . I don't, generally, do any "hands on" tree work these days, but I still need something that allows for plenty of movement and is fairly rugged as I'm often scrabbling around in the undergrowth and getting into some stange positions. I know there are plenty of men's jackets available that come in a Small. However, these are still huge on me and, apart from looking stupid, they are not very practical with huge amounts of gaping, excess material and rolled up sleaves. And coming in pink is not a necessity
  14. No felling or pruning, just two variagated cv's that I found while out surveying. They're not particularly rare, but a little different to what I usually see. I love the way that even the Tulip's flowers are variagated as well as the foliage. Liriodendron tulipifera - Tulip tree. Cornus mas - cornelian cherry.

Wow, those pics are amazing I'm really going to have to start looking into this more seriously as I want to be able to take photos like that.
  16. I was supposed to be at Barcham's for both the seminars this week, but I've suddenly found myself with three jobs taking priority over jollies and I was busy being empowered and getting my warrant card yesterday. Look out!!! They showed the original Bramley and I did think of you . It's crazy to think that over two million trees owe their existance to material taken from this one tree. I thought the bit on cizer might appeal to Mendiplogs
  17. If you have a spare hour, indulge yourself with this very interesting and slightly quirky offering from Beeb 4. Enjoy BBC iPlayer - Apples: British to the Core .

  19. I went past this and thought of this thread It would be equally at home in Hama's body language thread as well with those helical ribs!

Are they the "Demoiselles"? Like the banded demoiselle in the photo? Adding to that, apparently in the UK the 19 species of damselflies are divided into nine groups and the 25 dragonflies into ten groups.
  21. Can you PM his address to me too, pretty pleeze? He was one of the tutors when I was at Capel Manor and I haven't spoken to him for a seiously long time.

If you brush off the woodchip we're quite a cultured bunch underneath. Well, I'm fairly sure some of us are, anyway . I even went to the opera a couple of weeks back. Have you looked at the outdoor concerts at Kew and Bedgebury Pinetum? I'm going to the Blondie gig at Kew next month - with another arb', strangely enough

That sounds far too enjoyable to be called real work Roof gardens and green roofs are becoming increasingly important urban wildlife habitats. LAs have the power to insist on these on new developments (where practical) and it's a real shame that not many of them do.
