  1. You can get decent wood burners that fit straight into tge hearth. I put a Esse into our front room, connected the flys liner to and bottom, took less than a day. Although you have to remove the bur. It good although you do loose more heat up the chimney than witha normal wood burner. If that makes sense.
  2. I don't think it's as bad as it first looks, but I would have hit the roof and need holding back. Lots of good advice here though. The only thing I would do is caution against writing a response yourself as this would highlight that he was referring to you. Not everyone will have worked it out. Also if you respond the article you risk loosing your it may appear as shameless advertising, a third party is the way to go. I would suggest getting him down for day so he can comment with authority. But I guess there would be a risk of something happening to him
  3. I was a lot younger then! Now there is a 2 hour window between 0630 and 0830 to get up otherwise I get grumpy. Which means gets angry with me. Then I'd rather be outside in any weather
  4. I'm in Germany for the next few weeks, there is a Mog dealer near me. Peter Meyer I think if you want me to go have a look PM me.
  5. Cool to hear there is so many (or ex) towers on here. I miss the early morning training on the river. However, I really don't miss, in any way, the ergo!
  6. Old tradition, agreed but now competed by two crews of ringers! Like many sports the sportsmanship has been lost which is a shame. Anyway, back to the op what a pillock (swimmer not will), a knock on the back of the head may just have given him the attitude adjustment he needed. Why is it whenever people try and have some harmless fun or competition there has to be those who can't let them get on with it?
  7. I couldn't agree more. I love mine but would never have one as a town car - no leg room and you bang your elbow on the door. But for work I can't think of anything better (for me anyway) .
  8. Thanks. I hope no one on here ever has to use it! I carry it and CATs along with field dressing. I reckon you can sort anything out with those. I view them like a hammer and black tape for my series 2a
  9. Hi, I have used Celox a number if times and used quick clot, my thoughts are this. Forget, quick clot it basically 'burns' sort of so it is easy to cause more problems. It works well but I found it harder to use than Celox. Celox (bandage type) is excellent. But to get it to work you must reduce the blood pressure (more later). Then you have to force the Celox right into the wound, sometimes you can do this with the bandage complete but sometimes it needs ripping. It must be stuffed right in the wound dirty fingers time - don't worry about infection at this time. Then you MUST APPLY PRESSURE for 2 MINUTES if you don't it won't work. Then bandage tightly and treat other wounds. And package for transportation the casualty will be going hypothermic by now. Probably the most important part of the whole process is to reduce the blood flow and then treat the wound. Assuming the catastrophic bleed is in a limb apply pressure with a knee in the groin (legs) or shoulder (arms) to stem the flow. You will need all of your body weight. You can see the bleed slow. This also frees your hands to work on the casualty. Once pressure is applied then apply your CAT. The Celox, bandage or wait fir the ambulance. Never use Celox granules to be honest I'm not sure how you get the press applied correctly, can't say I want to try either. As a rule of thumb the pressure should hurt more than the wound. The guys I dealt with were all complaint about the CAT not the missing legs/ arms. Sobering but I hope some finds this useful but never has to use it. Also don't worry about secondary effects, surgeons get paid a lot of money to sort that bit out. If you get it wrong the casualty will bleed out in 2 mins or so, dead men don't come back to life. We were praised by the surgeons for the work on all casualties we sent back. I no expert just unlucky.

    Fuel Strike

Is it me or is the whole situation nuts. As I see it although they have voted to take industrial action (over terms and pay not the price of fuel). Nothing can happen until after Easter, so why panic buy? It just makes no sense. Strikes will always divide opinion I get that. But a country into thoughtless idiots because of a thoughtless comment about filling a Jerry can from a politician! This is a group of people the public general view as clueless anyway! Well I want the public to know that there's a chance that at some time in the future a branch might fall out of one of their trees and they should just get me to have a quick look... Any my wife said we were low on whiskey so I've been panic drinking
  11. I pretty sure there is some risk (easy to counter by face masks and cleanliness etc) but asbestos is much worse. If you do see any beat up tanks let me know. I will get a few face masks and get the metal weighed in. Ha ha £££££££ In all seriousness the military is so safety conscious now the precautions taken are the same if not more stringent than civi industry. With every fatality being published in the media, taking non combat industrial risk is not an option in the current wars of choice.
  12. Snatch has a modified chassis and to be honest the suspension really struggles - rocky rocky. I think the MOD had an exemption for them. I am sure that the springs are off the shelf though. Are you close to whithams? If so go and have a look.
  13. Don't believe it all. I had to take cover a number of times near Mosul in N Iraq in a hardened ac shelter that was properly smashed by DU rounds. that was 9 years ago no effects so far and i don't expect there to be either. Certainly less effect on me than the original occupants might have had! War is dangerous and it won't go away. We have to be better armed or we are more likely to loose more men - simple. DU rounds don't create dust on penetration of armour fact. They penetrate by a process called hydro dynamic penetration. The dust occurs later when particles cool or hit something like concrete. Yes there is an issue but not as big as some will have you believe.
  14. All Army has real low speed limits. Mainly because they keep getting smashed up. LR Wolfs have a sticker that max speed of 55mph on road even though they will safely go much much quicker cross country (driver ability allowing). My advice ignore the sticker but go steady until you know how the tailed handles. But check the speed rating on the tyres.
  15. I think so, does anyone know how much a trailer test costs? Makes you want to give up!
  16. Wow awesome, is that a special projects vehicle?
  17. Use a trivet on ours through the winter no probs. Yum yum
  18. Amazing leader, highly courageous. Just think about what he did with his men, puts most of our (my) dramas into perspective! RiP
  19. My Grandad milled a wind blown oak into 2 1/2" planks in the late 1950s. When we rebiult our house I found it sat in the back of of a friends barn and used it for the tops. It looks awesome, I will try and find some photos. As far a finish goes it gets waxed every week or so and has stood up really well over the last 4 years. It was lovely to work with as well.
  20. Nice stuff there - awesome in fact, I really like to solid benches, how do you cut the seat bit out? Cheers
  21. Brett, How are you getting on with the ISA cert arb? I am thinking about starting pretty soon, from what I have seen the content looks pretty good. Do you find it hard without having a mentor to turn to or is the study guide comprehensive? Also did you join the ISA as well? Any more experinced guys ever switched from ISA to RFS for further study, or is it not worth it? Any thoughts. Cheers Mark
