  1. I couldn't work out what you meant, just read and seen the freudian slip :) my wife is serriously taking the... Quite fitting.though. Off to pub to avoid further fuctions:D:beer:
  2. Surely it's test, therefore should test the function as it may be required. Therefore run saw flat out, apply brake if chain stops we're good go. If it doesn't it's not fuctioning correctly and needs sorting, better to find out in a controlled manner rather than when something goes wrong.
  3. I use moulded in ear plugs, they are great. Go in at the start of the day and stay in until endex. I can hear speaking etc, but they block the high pitch noise from kit. I do also put muffs on as well when chipping - i heard () that chippers can do serious hearing damage. They are not cheap though!
  4. I bumped into the farmer in the pub and asked him. As mentioned above, the answer was no, he is changing his animal bed from shavings as wood takes too long to break down. However he is thinking of drying chip with the excess heat.
  5. It winds me up, when this happens. Only happened once to me, but not having a Stihl combi can, only a Husky one, as I went into the shop to explain to the twerp the errors of his way, I split chain oil all over the floor (accidently, well to start with). They stop me anymore... Although I have also spilt oil all over the place, really need a Stihl can!
  6. They only 'self load' when you consider the driver as part of the system (ie load it yourself). They are the definition of junk, not even as much fun as they look. for 12K I'd buy something decent and a motor crosser:thumbup:
  7. Agreed, not sure about using what is basically food production to produce electricity. But in my case there are running alongside a cattle farm so use manure and waste from other farms.
  8. I hope they start up next month - I hadn't heard that. The business mentoring scheme could be really useful, probably better than the grant scheme. They offer loans anyway which had good rates, I don't know if you have looked into that, or indeed if they still offer them. Just try to avoid stopping in for a drink or you appear to age by 50 years immediately!
  9. A farm near me is installing a biodigester, which as got me thinking, would it take wood chip? I have had a look on the Bioplex website, but can't find the answer. The farmer plans to use maize and manure as the 'fuel' to generate something like 50Mw (may well out but they need about 600 acres of maize to keep it going). What are peoples thoughts and experiences with wood chip as biodigester fuel? Would it be a useful addition the maize mix, and would the chip need to be allowed to rot down before it would be useful? It would nice to know some facts before I rock up with an offer... and on the face of it, it would be a handy way of recuing my wood chip pile. Cheers Mark
  10. I don't think the RBL are still running the Be the Boss scheme, as they did spin up to meet the increased number leaving due to redundancy! Questions there ability to advise us... Anyway, I think there are still going which seem OK, but he rest of the package which looked really good has be frozen for the foreseeable future. Anyway good luck keep us posted. Mark
  11. Cheers Jamie, might drop in if I have time. Studying hard at the moment. Will you be at the in wig pool mid Oct? I had a few hours butchering the ash pile today about a full days work left (left a bit for you if you want it). Cheers Mark
  12. Hi Jamie, How's it going? Have you got any details of the Wye Valley/Dean Hedge laying assoc. I'd be interested in getting involved. Non planned at the moment though, Cheers Mark
  13. The link seems clear enough to me. WCL application on the to do list...
  14. Just been looking around the EA website and still none the wiser. Think I'll phone in the week, but reckon I will end up with one.
  15. I've just been on the EA website and gone through 'Do I need a WCL' bit and apparently arbs don't need a WCL until Jan 2014. I think this is opposite to what Rupe said above. I think Rupe has probably looked into this a bit more than me so keen to follow up on this exemption. Now I'm confused, if I need one i will get one if not I've got better things to spend my money on. Anyone got anymore info on exemptions etc? Cheers
  16. Cheers guys. I hadn't considered the American accent - good point. Isn't dead time about 0300
  17. What he said, excellent advice and service at a reasonable price.
  18. Hi, I would like to do the ISA Arb Certification exam in Oct, but can't get the CD's (I have the book but could do with CDs to fill 'dead time' in the truck). I have spoken to Jean at the ISA and they will not be getting any CDs in for a while. So does anybody have a set of CDs I either buy or borrow or hire until 12 of Oct? I really don't want to fail this exam... Thanks in advance. Mark
  19. That's a shame, does that also count timber out. When I was in the Army we made buildings out of timber and hessian to practice live compound clearance. Entry and exit damage still may be worth a look.
  20. This interesting, especially as I have to do some work on what looks to the same species. I didn't know what it was either. Going with Acer distylum - so thanks.
  21. What I've seen on demos before that may be of interest is shooting single thickness block work (old NI training style). It should show penetration and the difference between entry and exit energy transfer. You would be well advised to do a rehearsal as .222 may pen better than full bore. Would be interesting to see the effect of different round types if you can get them. Not sure on the regs regarding safety distances etc though. May also be worth shooting timber as well, I know it takes a fair bit of .50cal to knock over a tree. (Couldn't comment on strike rate - it's an area weapon ) Just a thought.
  22. I've got a tp200 (non turn table). I think it awesome easy to maintain, simple chips fast. But it is heavy, so hand balling it on site it an epic. Its built to survive WW3 but when it does go I would like the turntable version- even though its heavier. Oh did I say it's heavy
