  1. Agg221 sums an Allen Scythe perfectly, steer clear IMO, unless you like a challenge or charging towards fences wonder if you can stop/turn away in time. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  2. Hi Jon, I think so to now. Going to order one and replace it over the weekend. I wonder if I'll get more power? I got that lorry, I'll pick it up when my o licence is issued. No photos yet, but I'll do a thread on it when things start to happen. Cheers Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. Hi All, I have a new problem with my 300tdi (up until now it's been ace). It's done about 200k miles and in the morning it smokes excessively for about 2 miles, then settled down and doesn't smoke much at all. Initially I thought it was valve stem seals, but as far as I can tell they aren't often an issue on these. So I tip the site inflow to the turbo of and it had a lot of oil in it. The turbo impeller has a fair bit of movement, so I'm thinking about replacing that's asap. But it could be oil coming from the breather that links into the air inflow pipe. If it is coming from the breather anybody got any thoughts, or is the engine about to die? Do I replace the turbo? Tomorrow as soon as I get home I'll disconnect the site pipe from the turbo and see if it leaks any oil overnight (I assume occurs the turbo leaking, when it's running any oil will be sucked to the high pressure side). Any body had similar problems? Cheers Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. Billy, you might be correct about the ins, I'll find out. I'm going to phone the TC tomorrow to check out the score. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  5. Hi Billy, I just tried to get a photo of ebay (it was on ages ago) but the listing has timed out. As soon as I can I'll get photos up and let people know how I'm getting on with it. Fortunately, it's already converted to a tipper, so it just needs painting etc and a chop box making up to my spec. I want adjustable sides and bolsters for cord. I've just started the o licence form, how much quicker does the int1 form make the process? I can't insure it until I get the o licence squared, a bit frustrating but there we go. 7. I've just agreed to buy a Bedford TM 4-4 with a large atlas crane on it. Now time to get my o licence app off. Any advice on key things to say on the Int1 form? I just want the truck here, painted sign written and working for me😀 Hope I've done the right thing! Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  8. Thanks Paul, that's the one I used. I was going to try and post a link this evening but you've best me to it. Cheers Mark Sent from my GT-S7710 using Arbtalk mobile app
  9. Bump, I saw that one was posted on here, but damned if I can find it. Anyone able to help. Many thanks Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  10. Bob, I agree in principal, although your rig would struggle around here (most lanes are too narrow and twisty for an article rig just ask the satnav followers), but at least it wouldn't need to emptied everyday. I think turning circle is probably quite important. As with all these things it's a compromise, for me I reckon a 17 tonner ticks most of the boxes. Cheers Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  11. That's the conclusion I came to. Go big, the main effort is to carry a lot of chip and timber so you need the biggest lorry you think you can get into peoples drives etc. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  12. Hi, I've just had this email from DVLA regarding register a chip truck with a hiab as a special vehicle: * If you were successful in your application to change the vehicle to the Special Vehicle taxation class DVLA do not apply any restriction to what the vehicle can be used for or a distance restriction. Obviously, its not the c complete picture, I am now waiting a response from the DVSA, who may have a different view. Sent from my GT-S7710 using Arbtalk mobile app
  13. Hi Jon, just waiting for a few more prices for insurance servicing etc. Should make an offer next week Cheers Mark Sent from my GT-S7710 using Arbtalk mobile app
  14. Sounds great, I love your mog. I've occasionally taken the chipper behind he wife's car and chipped into the defender and a trailer, but your almost always over loaded with a 3.5t GVW truck. As I said I'm going to give the big truck option ago and just deal with the bureaucracy and costs. I put a thread on here when I commit to something. Cheers Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  15. Hi Steve, It chip volume that's pushing me to getting a lorry. At the moment I struggle a bit with getting extra drivers day in day out. So I've think it will be one big truck and a Defender. I expect that Bandit fills your trailer pretty quickly, which is what is all about. Cheers Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  16. Steve, That's very nice, what do you chip in to? My suspicions that special vehicle registration won't work for me have been confirmed. So now know where I stand. Cheers Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  17. What he said. Awesome chippers. Just check the axles OK if buying second hand. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  18. That's what thought but, buggered if I can find the regulations. I also think you could tow the chipper though (not great for a chip truck)😁😁 Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  19. Treequip, fair one 😁😁, getting an o licence isn't a big deal from what I've seen. But I'm a bit stubborn and what to try to keep cost down. Tbh, I can't see how an o licence etc can be avoided without limiting the vehicles utility. Next do I need a tacho.... Joking, at least that's clear😀😀 Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  20. Cheers but I'm reasonably happy with agri registering, although if you know if there is distance restriction would be handy, getting an answer from the dvla is a nightmare. Anyway, the truck I'm looking at has a atlas crane so could be registered as a mobile crane, therefore no O licence etc. But, I think it limits what you can carry and tow etc, which you mean you couldn't use it as a chip truck. I think... Any ideas. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  21. Hi, Does anyone run a large vehicle with a crane registered as 'special vehicle' (mobile crane I think). I've had a good trawl through the dvla and vosa web sites to try an find out the limitations on its use. Anyone know the rules? Or have link to the appropriate web page? Cheers Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  22. Sorry, I forgot the key info! Too busy doing quotes. They are basic, but really well made, well mine is although it 12 years old and I've no intention of changing it. Easy to work on and maintain. Not sure of dealers up your way. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  23. Sorry that's chippers I'm on about!😁😁 Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  24. Good stuff, Chris. Might be worth looking at a Tp200, I think the turn table one is 1550kgs. I've got the non turn table, it's awesome, simple robust and very fast. Hope this helps. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  25. Open space man, that's my understanding as well now. Opens another vehicle option for me and possibly save me a bit of money. Cheers for the steer. Mark Sent from my GT-S7710 using Arbtalk mobile app
