  1. I reckon if you were towing that, nobody would tailgate you . Sent from my GT-S7710 using Arbtalk mobile app
  2. That machine is awesome, how often do you use it? I expect once you get it going the jobs over pretty quickly! Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. Useful info coming in here. I'll be quick as I'm a bit busy. I like the sound of you're set up Peter, how much more difficult is it to make a 3 way tipper rather than a normal tipper. Jonny, you're a bad man, its tsken me ages to cone to terms with the fact I dont need a tractor! Still would like one though Sent from my GT-S7710 using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. Hi Joe, No walnut I'm afraid. But how's life with your new job? Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  5. Old Mill, good post. I just think the risk of being caught out running a mog as ag and on red is too high. The advantages of running it as a lorry aren't great enough. I think if I need the all out versatility of a mog I'd get a tractor - it would open up other work for me here. However, I would love a mog, just to have one😁 Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  6. Cheers guys. I was thinking of a Bedford TM with a hiab/atlas. Not too big, but good payload and enough off road ability. I've not considered a hook loader, but that certainly ticks the boxes for versatility. Do they tip chip out OK? Billy, I'm going through the financial planning, I may pm you it comes to o licence application time. Can't say I'm looking forward to it, but its got to be done. 7. Bob, that's music to my ears. I just can't see another way to go about it. I now need to work out how long it will take to pay for itself. Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  8. There are larger options than a mog and RB. If I was going for a single vehicle I'd probably go for an RB and accept a lack of payload. Bythamboy, the way I see unless your chipper is easy to dismount you loose the utility of your truck. There used to be greenmech mounted on a truck on the bay, is that the sort of thing you were thinking of? Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  9. The driving licence issue doesn't worry me at the moment, may be in 5 years I'll have a different opinion! Are any of the 7.5t you're looking at 4wd? Unfortunately, I really need that capability. You're point about training drivers is a really good one when it comes to getting a second driver a few years down the line. Its a tough decision as this will be a large investment! Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  10. Thats a good point and one I've thought of and have read the treads, I've got a tt105 which is great, but to get the best of it you need 2 trucks, one for the chipper and one for the trailer. This is my second option, running either 2 Land Rover chip trucks or a chip truck and a mewp. My ifor weighs about 1t with sides etc, so that give a legal 2.5t payload, plus whatever the tow vehicle has once you've got men and kit on board (good luck to the guy on here saying he's pulling 4.5t in his). A decent lorry still has twice the payload of 2 landys and a tt105 plus being able to tow the chipper or a trailer with a gw of 8t. Does that make sense? I've also thought about a tractor\ mog etc but being g a tree surgeon I can't get away with at reg and red😤 I guess there is no ultimate truck or set up! Cheers Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  11. I work in a rural area with over 60% of my jobs being big takedowns etc resulting in 3+ Land Rover loads of chip, I'm looking at getting another truck. I'll keep the Landy as its handy for smaller jobs quotes etc, but the purpose of the second truck is move large amount of chip logs etc. Having looked a GVW 5-7.5 truck don't actually give that much more capacity, perhaps 4t max (OK that's 4 landy loads, but would soon become over loaded). So my thoughts are go big early and get a 16t with a crane (assume an 8t payload and 24t GTW), this way, depending on configuration, volume is more likely to be the limiting factor. As for any thing over 3.5t I'll need an O licence, CE, tacho etc anyway, I can't see the maintenance being overly onerous and the truck won't be getting beasted. Being prepared to be shot down in flames, what have I missed and why aren't loads of tree surgeons cutting around in larger lorries? I get the access issues but that's what the Landys for? If I've got this right stand by for a truck project thread😁 Cheers Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  12. Hi Paul, Booked, many thanks to the AA for jacking this up, great service. Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app

  14. Spot on, my LR 130 has a payload of about 1000kg (no kit but with full tank and driver and dog). Once we've put kit and groundie on board and include chipper nose weight that doesn't leave much! I need a 4x4 as well so limited options within. My 15k budget, RB44 - better but still not a great payload, or go large and something like a Bedford TM (need my HGV 'e'). Either O licence here we come😤 Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  15. My Dad's had a stiga for over 10 years and it still cuts well. Expensive but a good buy, IMO. Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  16. Done😀 Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  17. Check out the NAAC web site and adjust from there, would be my advice. Can remember what they say, about £30ph? Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  18. Thanks Littlerob. May save some repairs. Awesome. Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  19. I get most parts from them, but I expect any chippers being broken will be in worse condition than mine. But I'll give him a bell tomorrow. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  20. Hi, I'm thinking about replacing (rather than repairing) the cowling on my chipper engine (Hatz L3) on a TP200. I've had a quick Google and can only find main dealers and I know they'll be ££££. So does anyone know of any breakers who may have Hatz parts, I'm think HGV or plant breakers? I expect most part will also be corroded but it's worth a go... Cheers Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  21. Hi, I will have an opening for a ground/second climber near Chepstow in the near future. Please PM me for more details or with a CV. Thanks
  22. Christ! Glad you all OK. Hope the insurance company sorts Everything out quickly for you. I take it you weren't towing the chipper. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  23. Ha ha, Stephen. That's how I ended up with garage full of motorbikes! Good shout, but big bucks to spend in my business early days. Cheers Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  24. No price yet, but they're not too far away. Are you considering any other options? Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  25. I agree, it is nice to have jobs were everything stays on site, but I don't have many of those. Its all about getting to the next job quicker, or shorter days and better quality of life etc. Boxers are expensive, but they seem to do a lot - probably not the best tool for any particular task, but good enough for lots of tasks.
