  1. Just working out how long it will take to pay for itself, not planning on borrowing for one if I can help it. I'm pretty sure its needed, but numbers need at come out the right way. I know I want one though😁 Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  2. Hi, I'm thinking of getting something like a Boxer, but am struggling with a methodology for an investment appraisal. Given that it would be used on may of the jobs i would have anyway ( I don't anticipated it generating new work). So my current plan is to assume it will save about an hours time on an average medium\large dismantle, I would then use this 'saved' hour as money earnt by the machine minus fuel, insurance servicing etc. However, by this method it doesn't look a great investment. What am i missing? Also struggling with the same issue with a MEWP, especially as you can't put a price on energy saved during a days graft... Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. Fenfungi, thank you. Very helpful. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. As well as not knowing a great deal about fungus, it appears I can't use my nexus! This time with a photo☺ Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  5. OK, can anyone id this one (my fungi id is terrible). They are located about 2m from the trunk of a mature cedar. Also is there likely to be any tree health issues? Many thanks. Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  6. Can't believe this is a discussion. It's only a phone call and a bit of waiting for a shut down. Why take the risk? If your working close to power lines you should inform the network provider anyway. CJM (I think) hit the nail on the head. Good shout on you're part IMO. 7. I've use celox quite a few times and I think its great, and carry it in the truck first aid kit. BUT,you need to know how and when to use it and how to deal with the other potential injuries, same as tourniquets. If you are trained, then I think it is a potential live saver, regardless of NHS, St John's et all opinions - they most likely don't know about it or can't afford it. Treating a casualty with a bleed where celox may be required, you need to do something within 10mins or they may not live, sod a slightly slower healing process or more complicated surgery - neither apply to a lump of meat... I'm confident that air or wheeled ambulance may struggle to meet average military medevac timelines (in Afghan anyway). Obviously pressure points elevation direct pressure are still essential first aid skills. As already said, prevention is the way ahead, I hope never to use it again. 8. Manic wind last night. Just looked but the window to see snow!
  9. Get in touch with mendiplogs he had on he was trying sell.
  10. Seconded:thumbup:, but skinning is that blokes left leg? Looks like it would have broken if a hail stone hit it:D
  11. Cheers guys. Have to admit tractors on big jobs the way forward:thumbup: Bobh, I live near lydney, you come this way often? Steve, It still there to:rolleyes: at times I thought I might end up on that roof:)! Scott, I wrote it, don't think it got me any more work! Do you come out as far as Monmouth?
  12. Post HC dismantle lunge - down in a day and 2 hours clearing up (helped by Valtra and timber trailer)
  13. We have the cover of our 35x, I assume its the same as yours. We also have the same problem but tbh I haven't done anything about it as it causes a problem so rarely. Be interested to see if there is a solution. If I think it may happen I just brake the inside rear wheel and drag the front around.
  14. Slight derail. Whilst taking the battalion cross country ski team on the patrol race (skiing cross country with large rucksac and shooting ranges), I got really really****d off with blokes falling over and taking ages to sort themselves out (all of us had only been skiing for 3 weeks). So I proclaimed that I would drop on the next man who fell over and 'break their face'. Only to turn around and fall straight into a stream:o. After a few nervous moments from the blokes, there was lots of laughing and mickey taking. We decided to have a laugh rather than race from then on!
  15. Evening all, Does anyone with a Tp 200 know the fuel filter number, mine is restricting the flow (I changed the inline filter today). I don't want to take the existing one off until I've got a replacement as I need the machine - using cherry from a farm:thumbdown: (time to order my own)! If I can find out tonight I can probably pick one up on the way to site in the morning, otherwise, I'll have to speak to A T Osbourne's or the local Agri shop and wait:( Thanks Mark
  16. Thanks some interesting stuff. Unfortunately, I had an epic today so no photos and now repairing the rear lights on the truck. Will try and go back over the weekend and reconsider and see what the customer can be persuaded to have done - ultimately its their tree so they have the final say, I'll just do the mutilating:)
  17. Eddy, Thanks. As Matt said the customer wants it mutilated, but if it will Pollard it think they will be happy - not sure they would be if it died!
  18. Matt, Pollarding is a technique, just hacking in about is mutilation- which I'm trying avoid. That aside, do you say not to do it because the tree will react poorly, unlike perhaps a lime would? Cheers
  19. I'll try and remember tomorrow, although I'm not comfortable with pollarding it, so may not get any end grain shots, but I'll see what I can do.
  20. Hi Jon, I get what your saying, but I don't have that much work to justify your winch hence my budget cap. However, if you want to drop your price I'll be over the river as fast as my landy will get there:) Otherwise yours sounds just the job, but it all comes down to money:rolleyes: Have you fitted that H14 yet? Cheers mate, Mark
  21. Hi all, I had a customer ask me to pollard a sweet gum (I'll try and get some photos tomorrow). I haven't done much on sweet gum but, iirc they don't like being hit hard in cooler climates - no idea where I've got this from so can't check. The customer wants it heavily reduced (cut out in their words), and I think the scaffold lends it self to pollarding? Any thoughts or comments before I get some photos?
  22. About a 1k, bit less if possible. Although I like the sound of Jon's 5.5 Igland, but it's all about the money and the return
  23. Hi Matty, Defo, give it a try. There's nothing to loose! Cheers Mark
  24. Bit of both to be honest, the most annoying was only 10 miles away and it finished early. I was going to email him and make an offer, but that really annoys me so I thought I won't hassle the seller :banghead:
  25. Hi all, Need a smallish (3 - 4.5 T) forestry winch. I know I've missed 4 on eBay within the last month:banghead: and they were within my limited budget. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice (or even have one for sale)? It won't get a massive amount of work, but I need one for a forthcoming job and it be handy to keep in the shed. Oh, it will be used on my 35x Cheers in advance. Mark
