  1. My reading of it is that tree surgery is a hort activity regardless of client and waste can be removed to a tip site and to a place of sale. Not saying I'm correct, but it's handy to bounce interpretations about. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  2. I've just read the link open spaceman's put up. Its pretty clear that if you use a tractor for tree surgery, of can be run on red. This is not what I thought, happy days. So if I register a 4x4 lorry or mog as a tractor, it can also be run on red (I think). Also talks about delivery of goods to market, so sale of chip and cord from site directly to the customer is OK (I think). Anyone disagree with this? 5. John, As above. Cheers Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  6. Botched first op thanks to German medical service. NHS was a wait then a delay, but the op was great (well it worked)! I think I was off tree work for 6-8 weeks. Had friend who was running 2 weeks after his op! But I'd recommend not pushing it to get back to work. Good luck Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  7. I've got one and love it. But it needs maintaining or bit breaks. There's no elbow room, so in the winter you get a cold right arm. I think the biggest issue to consider is the payload, like all 3.5t trucks, legally you can't take much, so I'm looking at buying a lorry. If you do get one try and fit a superwinch H14, really useful bit of kit😀. I won't be selling mine anytime soon. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  8. Simple get down, admin first aid. What you do in the tree will almost definitely be ineffective anyway. .. Sent from my GT-S7710 using Arbtalk mobile app
  9. Good thread, all I take up the tree is the rubbish stien one, and only because it what we're meant to, oh and a CAT. I can't see how you could do much else other than apply a CAT up a tree. Getting down has to be the priority IMO. Guessing that a chainsaw bite from cutting and holding, would mean a one handed application of a dressing while dangling in a tree, can't see how I can done in a manner to reduce the blood flow. I keep ffds & celox for on the ground. Just my thoughts. I am more concerned about something like a broken back, when you'd need to wait for your rescue climber to get you down. Off for a curry, beers and lighter chat😀 Stay safe! Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  10. Think I may have found a truck, so been browsing the net getting feel for costs. First look at tyres £1500+vat each!😣😣😣 looks. About and found some much cheaper. I'll need to adjust my cost estimate a bit! I doubt tyres would need changing often though☺ Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  11. Cheers I'm a bit happier with the o licence costs now. Insurance comes down as the ncb increases. Now need to sort out storage location and find a truck. I can't really think of an alternative vehicle. I'm very much in the same situation as Peter. I'd like to have this sorted before next winter. Mark Sent from my GT-S7710 using Arbtalk mobile app
  12. iirc you first o licence is about £1500 or so, it on the dvla web site. Yet more up front costs! Old Mill, I need an off road ability, which is why I'm thinking of a Bedford TM 4x4, but I think it will cost a lot to buy, convert it etc. How was the mog? Are they limited on pay load ( weight and volume) or are they OK. The TM with a crane has a payload of 8t. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  13. No winching today. I'll see what on my phone. Cheers Mark Sent from my GT-S7710 using Arbtalk mobile app
  14. Rain all day, large sycamore removal everything is soaked and covered in slime. I need all the lot tomorrow for another. Big job, joy! Summer has started with a bang😠 Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  15. Right ho, did think I might need a close protection team. I thought you'd need jabs coming the other way tbh:) Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  16. That's got to be one of the most honest statements on here😀. Have you gone firm with a plan yet? Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  17. Glad you're enjoying your job. Had an reasonable May,was dead last year, but rushed off my feet now. Most of the jobs are good ones, so I'm happy. In Glos next week, not worked in the city before! Do I need a passport to leave the forest?😀. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  18. All good stuff. I've been getting insurance quotes they seem to range between £1000-2000. This seems a bit high for a vehicle that's only going to be 5000 miles a year. I've no HGV ncb which is part of the problem. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app

Cheers Mark Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  21. Fair dos I'd want some help on those. If you can fell the one at the bottom, I reckon they'd winch up. If you section felling, it would be a slow old job! Cheers Mark Sent from my GT-S7710 using Arbtalk mobile app
  22. Hi Jon, I used mine on some massive logs while working for Help for Heroes, I thought I'd snap the chasis. Will you be at yhe show on friday (I'll check out the other thread). Mark Sent from my GT-S7710 using Arbtalk mobile app
  23. If its only 20m casual labour and some man up pills. I'd do as mendip logs says winch it up. For 20m a loader may over complicate thr job. Weve just done a similar job, climber & 2 groundies. We pre stacked the brash and logs near the tree then formed a chain once thr climber (me) was down. It was a grind but not the worst we've done. Cost me a few ice creams though Sent from my GT-S7710 using Arbtalk mobile app
  24. That's awesome. I was once working in a USAF AC130, and went in the cockpit during the pre-mission air to air refuelling, it was dark and obviously the to aircraft were close, like really close, but nothing like that photo. I reckon you could have a go at refueling the typhoon with a combi can he's so close! Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  25. Yep, they're all out there! The drive was probably too busy wonder what he was following, then wondering what he had hit... Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
