  1. I too used to use the Skylotec harness and hed exactly the same problems , there was meant to be a new version coming out some in late 2009 but it didnt , again in 2010 it was meant to be released but it didnt and this year at the AA arb show i was told that it will not be brought out which is a shame as it was goignt to be a much much better harness . Anyway cutting a long story short i have now got a Tree Motion and highly reccomend it , it first i didnt think i was going to find another harness that was as comfortable my skylotec but i have and not would not go back . Yes it may be more expensive but well well worth it . And i must say thanks to justin at F.R Jones for his help and advice . top notch
  2. HMMMMMMM . Nice to see that the LA are making use of the Fire & Rescue Service while they are not fighting fires !!!!! they certainly made short work of that tree !!!!!!!! lmao
  3. not sure its of any use but i have an old S reg Mazda B2500 that has done 250,000 miles and if it was not for my useless father crashing it into another of my trucks then it would still be being used daily .

  11. personally i wold not bother with any of the "books" , i spent an average of £1200 per year on the books and possibly gained 3-4 jobs from them last year . im not going to spend my advertising budget on other forms of advertising and will not be bothering with the books again !!
  12. what sort of money do you want to spend on a tractor/mog ?
  13. personally i would look at having something a little more than a flyer made and get it delivered to speific areas near you that fit your criteria .

  19. there was recently (within the last 5 years) a case in totnes where a young woman was killed by a roadside tree which sparked a massive re think on how roadside trees are managed etc
  20. if your looking for a machine to hndle timber and move pallets i would probably go for something like an old 360 swing shovel and a set of crane forks on a lifting chain . i saw a firm using this set up last week and it seemed to work really well
  21. I do see where you are both coming from but TO'S all read from the same blue book and whether the to is in penzance or guildford that have to comply with the rules , much like we all have to comply with BS3998 (2010) . we have to justify why we want to carry out works to a protected tree and if the tree officer feels that this work is not required then unless you fancy going to appeal then you have to acept what the TO has to say . we all have different views and as long as you have clearly expressed what you want to do in your application then you have done all that you an do unless you want to bring in a consultant to create a more detailed report and aplication - you may not agree with what the consultant has to say as well though !! . John i too can not stand species such as Leylandie but lets be honest in devon and cornwall they are bread and butter jobs , i dont really mind if im not allowed to take such a tree down as i know that either me or another firm will be back in a couple years to reduce it again , thus creating work !!!! so in some ways you should love TO's even more lol
  22. such awfull news , my thouhts are with his imediate family and his flying family . R.I.P
  23. Hi stuart , im not aware that anyone other than the LA its self can do this .
  24. But its exactly that outlook that stopps the industry from moving forwards I spend a fair amount of my time dealing with my local tree officers and have built up a good working relationship with them , this is down to the fact that i will not apply for works that i believe will not be allowed or are unreasonable , i also offer to meet with the to on site prior to the application being submited - in otherwords get the TO out to tell you what he will allow. Some may say that this is a waste of their time but i personally would say that it looks far better to have your application accepted and to be able to tell the client that everythig sailed through thus building some trust with the client and increasing the chances of repeat custom and recomendation . I personally would rather keep a good working relationship with the to rather than post what could be seen as derogatory comments regarding TO'S on a public forum that may well resort in TO,s in your area reading them . And Lastly i dont really think it looks all for a forum for Professional Tree Surgeons and Arborists to be openly showing such a negative outlook on TO'S

Some people will never learn !! I know first hand that many Tree Officers in devon and cornwall look on Arbtalk regularly . I personally would not make the mistake of thinking that they dont .Even in this "backward" part of the world .
