  1. sorry to sound rude but what will be going on there ? i may well take a drive up from cornwall
  2. just looking on the bat for a rall car just for a bit of weekend fun when i came across this !!!!! LAND ROVER TOMCAT T1 - RALLY CAR | eBay i really must have one for utility work !!!!!
  3. there was recently (within the last 5 years) a case in totnes where a young woman was killed by a roadside tree which sparked a massive re think on how roadside trees are managed etc
  4. if your looking for a machine to hndle timber and move pallets i would probably go for something like an old 360 swing shovel and a set of crane forks on a lifting chain . i saw a firm using this set up last week and it seemed to work really well
  5. I do see where you are both coming from but TO'S all read from the same blue book and whether the to is in penzance or guildford that have to comply with the rules , much like we all have to comply with BS3998 (2010) . we have to justify why we want to carry out works to a protected tree and if the tree officer feels that this work is not required then unless you fancy going to appeal then you have to acept what the TO has to say . we all have different views and as long as you have clearly expressed what you want to do in your application then you have done all that you an do unless you want to bring in a consultant to create a more detailed report and aplication - you may not agree with what the consultant has to say as well though !! . John i too can not stand species such as Leylandie but lets be honest in devon and cornwall they are bread and butter jobs , i dont really mind if im not allowed to take such a tree down as i know that either me or another firm will be back in a couple years to reduce it again , thus creating work !!!! so in some ways you should love TO's even more lol
  6. such awfull news , my thouhts are with his imediate family and his flying family . R.I.P
  7. Hi stuart , im not aware that anyone other than the LA its self can do this .
  8. But its exactly that outlook that stopps the industry from moving forwards I spend a fair amount of my time dealing with my local tree officers and have built up a good working relationship with them , this is down to the fact that i will not apply for works that i believe will not be allowed or are unreasonable , i also offer to meet with the to on site prior to the application being submited - in otherwords get the TO out to tell you what he will allow. Some may say that this is a waste of their time but i personally would say that it looks far better to have your application accepted and to be able to tell the client that everythig sailed through thus building some trust with the client and increasing the chances of repeat custom and recomendation . I personally would rather keep a good working relationship with the to rather than post what could be seen as derogatory comments regarding TO'S on a public forum that may well resort in TO,s in your area reading them . And Lastly i dont really think it looks all for a forum for Professional Tree Surgeons and Arborists to be openly showing such a negative outlook on TO'S

Some people will never learn !! I know first hand that many Tree Officers in devon and cornwall look on Arbtalk regularly . I personally would not make the mistake of thinking that they dont .Even in this "backward" part of the world .
  10. great vid but sadly he is not in a scooby !!!!!
  11. Paul , be carefull what you say as there are lots of tree officers from the devon and cornwall area . I know just how annoying it can be when the T.O does not give you the answer that you would expect of like BUT keep it profesionall . As for the cost of carrying out such aplications you need to work out what it is costing you in your time - this depends on how indepth your report goes and how much liasing with the client and TO you need to do so in all honesty you need to work out what it costs you . Anyway hope all goes well for you . Cheers Dave
  12. i insure with both trust and NFU , i have found both to be very good to deal with but i would not move my fleet policy to NFU and neither would i insure my mog with trust , i guess its a case of finding out who does what best . as for insuring plant for the sum of the finance taken out i would give trust a call , but lets be honest are there any insurance firms that will pay out on what you paid for it , for example - a guy pays 12k for a 2001 timberwolf 150 chipper and clearly paid way over the odds is that the insurace firms fault ?? nope !
  13. cheers for that , i could not get my head round the info guide on the hmrc website
  14. this may help MotorWeek: Road Test 2,400 lbs = 1090kg
  15. the 04/05 is a totally different beast and as far as i am aware it is not restricted to 750kg
  16. See i knew someone could make sense of what i was trying to explain
  17. hi guys , im just going through my books before i drop them over to my new accountant tomorrow and was just wondering if there is vat on road tax and also on insurances ????? i have looked on the hmrc site and confused my self even more . thanks Dave
  18. i thought that under EU law you had to include VAT in the advetised price and that your vat must show in the financial break down on your invoice .
  19. ha ha im pretty sure if it spent a week or two hauling timber it would never polish up like that again !!!
  20. now that would be amaing !! . it is amazing that a little tiny thing can run rings round some of the seasoned hairy arsed guys that have done it for years .
  21. anyoe fancy this for delivering logs/ timber ? . looks like an amazing piece of kit http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KENWORTH-SALE-STUNNING-TRUCK-/250872791730?pt=UK_Commercial_Trucks&hash=item3a692f02b2
  22. ha ha just think you could tow a 750kg chipper behind at 155 mph lmao , well as long as it is on a "fast tow" trailer
  23. but would you reccomend such a heavy reduction on a nchestnut right beside a main road ? . also would you reccomend such a reduction if the tree was not in a condition to the Beech in you post ?? . sorry if i sound a little harsh , its not intended im genuinely interested
  24. In short my advice would be to try and have a look at a coppy of the new BS3998 standards , recent findings have shown that previously many 15% reductions were infact more like 50% reductions because the system many of us have used for gauging % when it comes to reducing trees was way off . Im sure this is something thet AA Tecide will be able to explain in far more detail then me and will make much more sense . It is well worth geting to a BS3998 update if the AA are running one near you
  25. anyone seen this on the bay ? not sure i woud be too keen to drive it off road !!! eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace
