  1. sorry Mr Blair beat me too it .
  2. we run a Junkkari 10 inch chipper on out 1600 unimog (160hp) we run the chipper on 1000 pto on low revs , this was the advice form a green mech rep at the time i was looking to buy a new chipper , i have not read the whole thread but feel i should ask is the chipper direct drive or belt driven ?
  3. But would you not be woking for a firm with french insurance cover ? a friend of mine went over to france to work but found that his P/L and E/L did not stand and that there were no terms to state that the insurace was valid outside of the uk , so in theory if this is the case and you are working under french insurance you should comply with what ever the insurance states ie- certification of compitence , uk certs - etc etc
  4. Maybe dress him up in a chainsaw jacket as well just for good measure , personally i would send him on another chainsaw course at the very least and most certainly would get him working with an experienced cutter with the hpe he may learn something . As Steven Blair said - chainsw gloves are not mandatory and if you turn up without them on a chainsaw course then as long as you have a pair of gloves(with an elasticated wrist band) then there is no issue , i bought several pairs of chainsaw gloves recently only for me and my two guys to be told by the assessor that they were not mandatory and infact it ws found that in wet conditions they can be more of a hazard than not wearing them .
  5. having worn a pair i would not recomend them , the fabric is no where near as durable as any other of the Stretch Air trousers , they are far to heavy and hot and personally for the price that they sell for i would expect much much more
  6. I will look forward to seeing how they preform for a month or so before getting one , like i said my concerns are the multi function on/off and choke system , any way i will see if i can get to use one tomorrow
  7. personally i think that as much as these kits are expensive how much does a life cost ? . i personally think that it is a must have for any arb team woking an awkward hard to reach areas , for instance - a utilitty team working in a larch plantation 1/2 a mile from the truck or road . As said before it would be much better (and possibly better on the pocket) if it did come in a decent crew/trauma back pack .
  8. i can see that the new combined ON/Off , choke and half choke looks like it will not last long at all in a demanding enviroment , also the front handle is smooth and fells slightly bigger than previous saws . Also it may just be me but with an 18 inch bar it does not feel that well ballenced or comfortable to use for several hours a day . But on the pluss side it does look quite pretty
  9. Glendale took delivery of several today , i had a quick look and to be honest im not as impressed now that i have seen it in the flesh
  10. looking at my choices i think i will go with the Petzel duo 14 , seems to have a powerfull beam as well as decent fllod lighting , i looked at the h14 but i do think that the smart led stuff wont last too long in this trade . but do feel free to correct me guys
  11. i would love too but i aint found a decent andle holder to stick on the front of my helmet that does not get in the way of the visor lol .
  12. hmm now im not sure what to buy - petzel duo14 or the led h14
  13. i have been looking at a few petzel head torches , one is a duo5 and the other is a duo14 , has anyone got any advice on the better petzel head torches ie brightness distance etc etc
  14. Now that the sumer is behind us im now looking for a decent head torch to go an my stein helmet for night time call outs, the last few years every winter i keep saying that i will get a new torch but as yet i have not got one . So guys any advice or oppinions on getting a decent head torch would be greatly appreciated .
  15. not the first and not the last stihl to come out the box with problems !!!! such a shame but this is why i am not keen on buying any this more from stihl
  16. An interested video and good to see but i personally would have used a crane - 2-3 bits and it would have been down and loaded onto a truck
  17. or even Myrtle (Myrtus)
  18. how about a Box hedge - Buxus sempervirens ???
  19. looks like a nice bit of kit i wonder what sort of money they sell for . i could do with one of them
  20. lol best i get listing mine lol , i have 4 to sell
  21. I think this is the case i this country full stop , i recently contacted a unimog dealer to enquire into buying a front mount chipper and trailer for my mog , sadly i am the one having to do all the chasing !!!
  22. Having thought about this some more would it be any use in taking several cross sections of timber fromm affected trees as well as non effected trees from several areas of the country to then compare the samples to see if there is any difference in the characteristicks of the timber ? . Also have you found any differences in the leef and acorn formations etc ? .
  23. this is certainly something that we are not seeing alot of down here in cornwall , our summer down here has been pretty wet and lacking in sunshine.
  24. there is nothing saying that you must have insurance - yes its a good idea but not a must , and who says it was waste ? surely you had a use for it ??
  25. a verball agrement is legally binding , so what if it is only £125 , take them to court and claim the £125 pluss dammages = £400 simples
