  1. i personally would not bother , i have used a couple and didnt find them to be that impressive , if your going to look at using that size chipper i would seriously look at either a schliesing or bandit , failing that a vermere bc1000XL the timberwolfs are ok up to the 190 but thats about their lot
  2. personally depending on the target area and use of the area i would consider rod bracing it , at least the tree can be monitored and in the most likely case it can be retained and managed . of simply fell it take the money and run lol
  3. Nice job !!!! always nice to see fancing done properly. Its something we dont see alot of down here in cornwall !!!!!
  4. Haha i will make sure the seat it right up in the valtra tomoorow to make you feel at home !!!!!! lmfao
  5. Nice job , thats what tommer and myself have been doing today (and for the next few days) only your site does not look like a mud bath lol
  6. some cracking kit on here guys !!! it just goes to show that tommer and myself are at the small end of the scale !!! never the less were loving using the chipper and crane . i for sure would love to get a bigger machine but cant see there is much call for it in cornwall
  7. The best advice i can give you is to go and work for a company for 18 months-2 years , even then you will have a steep learning curve on your hands when you become a subby , make your mistakes on their time and get as much experience from as many people as possible . if i were to bring in a subby whether it be as a grounds person or climber i wouls expect them to have experience and be able to do what ever they are asked to do (depending on level of certification) is this something you feel yo will be able to do from day one ? if not you run the risk of either being paid very little or not being invited back for more work . Im sorry if i sound harsh , it really is not intended to sound harsh BUT your taking a big leap into an industry that is saturated with experienced guys who are looking for work doing exactly what you want to do. Cheers Dave
  8. there is alot to be said for job security , and even more to be said for not having to do your books, complete tax returns , buy your own kit , ensure you have work right throughout the year oh and do all of that and hold down a full time job on less than £80 a day . if i had known what i know now when i started my own firm i probably would have stayed on the books !!
  9. sorry to sound a little daft but am i right in thinking that this primarily effects young trees stressed tree ? is it mainly young growth and re growth thats effected ? the only reason im asking is that im curious as to whether or not a healthy tree that is showing symptoms can be left alone and recover in its own time ? sorry if it sounds a little silly but im curious to see what the outcome may be .
  10. my advice would be to speak to the hire firm , in most cases as long as the chainsaw operator is working away from the mewp operator there is not a problem , it is also common that the newp will arive with a perspex/mesh divider any way as it is not only chainsaws that when used in a mewp there needs to be a physical barrier . Hope this is of some use
  11. with a sharp set of blades you will be fine , they usually go on tractor hp as opposed to hp at the shaft , im not sure why as most other manufacturers go off of the hp at the shaft . good luck and happy chipping
  12. its a Fransguard 3 ton winch , we neded a winch for next week and sourced it locally , that being said im on the look out for a 6 ton winch for the job we have in 3 weeks . Lol i will give them a call on monday and speak nicely to them , maybe bribe them with the offer of sending up some saffron cake lol
  13. Cheers guys , we needed 8m links , hope they are open tomorrow as we need them for tuesday lol nothing like picking up a winch to find half of it is missing !!!!
  14. if the chiper comes fitted with no stress im sure you will be fine , the minimum HP requirement for a tp 200 is 40hp so you will breeze it , with no stress controle it will simply make feeding 8" timber a bit easyer on the tractor . Hope this helps Cheers Dave
  15. just a random question but does anyone have any spare chokers for an extraction winch that they dont want or can lend ?? i would not normally ask but having picked up a winch with no chokers we are struggling to get hold of any and dont seem to find anywhere within 500 miles that may have stock of them . thanks in advance guys
  16. if i had the skill and time to do something with that then i think it would be turned into a garden tourch holder or holloe out the top and use it to sit a couple parafin garden tourches into .
  17. you need to start trying harder jon or start working 18 hour days .lol.
  18. Good on you , if only there were a few more employers like you around . some pictures of your chaps at work and the work sites would be great . Cheers Dave
  19. it will carry 10 tons , it has a steering drawbar and fully movable axles and bunks . give wilsons a call , i know when we were buying the tractor they had a couple of them in the yard
  20. come on john sort it out !!!
  21. Its a Kelsa trailer Garth , so far we are really happy with it
  22. The secret to loading tose lumps was to lift in close and sit the timber up by the head board and with a bit of help from our unimog it was then slid to the back !!! getting the lumps back off was fun !! We were both loading and unloading in the dark !! more work lights are on the cards for sure !! I really have found it a joy to use for the last week and today tom and i started on a site clearance for another firm which will see us chipping, felling and moving the timber from 400 trees on the site . Cheers Dave
  23. thats a lovely valtra you have there , i can imagine it would work really well with a roof mounted crane
