  1. No chance of that in Cornwall !!! the forecast said it would be dry all week !! at 6 this morning i went to work in the rain !!!!!!
  2. TCD , call Cscs tomorrow and simply book to do the general test , i tried the whole Arb/forestry thing and got nowhere , as long as you hold a cscs card you can not be refused acces to site (this has been my experience) .
  3. would you like the volume working out taking into account the space between logs when either heaped or when stacked ? . the simple option it to calculate the volume of timber into m3 before processing it if you wish to sell by the m3 then this really is the most accurate method , obviously it needs to be made clear that there is a % of the timber lost during the cutting and splitting process . so effectively my customer purchases 1,2,34 etc m3 of timber that has been processed . therefore i an deliver 1m3 of timber in a tipper that has a cubic capacity of 1.53 and i can assure the customer that they are recieving 1m3 of timber . obviously you have to take into account the measurement of timber being taken at top diameter.
  4. could not agree more ! there needs to be a greater effort within the industry to adopt this way of thinking .
  5. Only today i was delivering a load of logs to a regular customer as usual while tipping off the logs i was having a chat with , as i was putting the tail gate back up on the landy he passed me the money for the logs and told me he expected me and my staff to pop into his cafe for a full breakfast and mug of tea as a way of saying thanks !!! not just me but all of us !!!!!! top bloke
  6. i would not have expected you too !! thats just the point
  7. Gosple of luke (10:29-37) Ahhhhhhh TCd
  8. hmmm i would be keen to see this in use , i have been looking at pto machines to go behind a mog but not come up with anything yet
  9. sorry , yeah i should have been a little more clear , yeah i mean draining the water from the tanks . cheers huck
  10. I didn't realize Plippy has had any Cornish in him !!!! is he still on the poppers and glue bag ?
  11. if the machine is working i would recomend that in damp, wet, humid conditions you should be emptying the tanks upto 3 times a day .
  12. although it is hard not too go by the m3 i still try not too give this as an example , Quite simply i deliver a load of logs of which the size of the tipper is ........ if they decide to euate that into m3 then thats fine but im not going to run the risk of getting a visit from weights and measures , i dont sell by the ton and dont sell by the m3 , i will happily send you an email of a load of logs on or off of the truck or indeed pop by and you can have a look for your self . i seem to gain more customers than i lose and at the moment im happy if im sending out loads of logs on a sunday !!!
  13. have a look if it gets almost to 20 bar or 15 bar , when your mog is working how often do you empty the air tanks in a day ? the reason i ask is that this could be the Key reason to your problem
  14. yes there is , your air pressure gauge should show you what pressure it builds too before the un-loader valve . if you are experiencing loss of 4wd and pto it could well be caused by a worn/dammaged/blocked 4 way protection valve , how often do you empty your air tanks and does your mog have an air dryer in the system just after the un-loader valve ?
  15. Dont be put off from working in the woods , often it is the case that the employer will put himself before his staff , you must be doing well if your paying the finance on his kit !!! lets be honest if the kit was being worked properly it would pay for its self !!!!
  16. that sure is what hard work is all about !!!!
  17. often the seals on the Hi/low splitter ram can go , this can either stop the air piston from expanding or retracting or you can lose air pressure really quickly , if this is the case it is either caused by wear and tear or because your air pressure regulator(s) have failed and allowed either too much or not enough air pressure through . i once bought a seal kit but this did not last more than 12 months , i have now replaced both of the pressure regulators and the hi/low range change piston . Do you know if your mog is running a 12 or 18 bar system ?
  18. when i had our tw190 we found that no matter how hard we tried we could not keep the shoot secured when on the road the amount of times we would have to stop and secure the shoot before it took out a bus was unreal , in the end it got a bead of weld o the inside edge of the collar so that the shoot would clamp down onto the bead of weld and not move a simlpe pin and r clip would solve the situation before they leave the factory !!
  19. got any pics ? . personally i think that jensen have got it right in stating that the discharge shoot must be removed when on the road .
  20. ahhh i think the best gift i have received from a customer has to be the old crosscut saw , it was that rusty that when we picked it up it fell to pieces ! never the less its the thought that counts
  21. ahhh great stuff , if the weather was anything like it has been down here today then they had a perfect day for it ! so now its time for then to be put to hard work !!
  22. na not at all Stu , its a good point and somethingi feel i overlooked !!
  23. Hi Stu Nope the machine was demonstrated , however when i went to get the machine it was almost dark and we needed to get back . having seen the machine in use i didnt feel the need to inspect the blades ! but maybe i should have !!
  24. I know its not opperating a harvester but i did see a thread for someone with FMO certs
  25. When i say its a skill thats almost lost i mean the skill of felling and processing trees by hand with a chainsaw , i know there are still 1000's of us still using saws as a trade but the hand felling , snedding and processing is lost , its only when im teaching and assessing that i really get to do a bit of it and i must say i do genuinely miss it . Your right Huck it is only ourselves that can raise the wage of a cutter or the value of a job , it is guys such as your self that know what a proper days work is and can give 100% to every job that warrant it , it seems that many of today's school/college/university leavers do not know what real graft is all about ! this is why we see a trade such as the original forester becoming a rare skill/trade . I trul do feel that there should be more effort put into keeping these skills going and where possible using these skills as opposed to machines
