  1. i guess it depends on what part of the industry you work in , we will not use Hi Flex as they do not last long enough , using Stretch air trousers has brought my expenditure down considerably , we use a mixture of arborist trousers and the Gladiators and so far we have not been let down !! the fact that there is now a choice between class 1 and class 2 makes it even better .
  2. Ahhh i see , you you would have a Botex if it was given to you way better than relying on the old handraulics
  3. Depends what ou want really , i have had good and some not so good experiences
  4. Anyone know of any venues that are running a UA1 course that has places available ? sooner the better . Many Thanks Dave
  5. so whats the crane the you own now John ? cant quite make it out from the pic on you other thread
  6. surprising john , i would have thought that both the 560 and 570 are fairly big players in the forestry world . lets be honest that is where the originate from isnt it ??
  7. To make it really simple - Leave it alone !! why try cutting it and risk serious injury/death and the possibility of large fines from your distribution network i would ask them to either get their guys in to cut it on the day your carrying out your work or to shroud it for you / arrange a shutdown for you . the golden rule is when it comes to overhead lines is simply - if you dont understand it and are not sure the leave it alone !! Good luck and hope all goes well
  8. Had a Navara D22 and a D40 and glad im rid of the D40 , the D22 now has a new engine and is for sale as well , Nissan UK were to total joke and when they told me that the dealers poor workmanship and damage caused to my vehicle was nothing to do with them and there was nothing they could do about it !!!!
  9. mmmm who is selling this in the UK !!!!! i can think of a few uses for this !! huge limb removals carried out for a safe distance !!!!!! lmao
  10. can you give a bit more info on what the job involves ?
  11. how about a 35m rope with spliced eye (new england hi vee) and a 5m strop ? nice and simple and relatively cheap !!! carry an extra friction cord on your harness and you can have up to 3 anchor points !! simples
  12. the only fault we could find was the point of attachment for your saw strop , other than that we found it to be a really great piece of kit that is a head and shoulders above both the ms22 and ms201
  13. I was Called by my dealer this morning as they have been trying to order one . i then spoke directly with husky who confirmed that my dealer is correct !! on another note i always chuckle when calling husky !! press one for Mcolach , press two for Flymo press three for Gardina ......................... ummmm is there an option for Husky ????? Nope lol
  14. Thats an adults size 8 aint it lmao
  15. Today i have been speaking to one of the guys at Husky UK and guess what ???????? !!!!!!!!!! The T540 will not be available until February as it is not yet in production !!!!! I was told last september that it would be out this February !!!! looks like my ageing MS200's will have to go on a bit longer again ! at this rate Stihl will have brought out the MS202 !!!!
  16. Do you think that it realistically needs to be pollarded ? does it have a structural weakness that has is causing concern ? does the owner have any reason for wanting it pollarded ? I recently looked at a Magnolia that had approximately 12 cobra braces in its canopy ! none of the were providing any support or in anyway counteracting the effects of wind stress and the tree had no structural defects that required this works . I guess someone made a fair bit of money out of the National traust for doing it though !!
  17. hiya Jim where abouts in Devon are you based ?

  19. I have just agreed to buy a Jensen A240 to go behind my u1600 mog , although its probably a little late i just thought i would see if any of you have used an A240 behind a mog before and what your thoughts were , im sure that weighing only 1.4 tons it will be fine and if not its no bother it can go behind a tractor . Anyway any help of advice is muchly appreciated Cheers Dave CTS

  21. to be honest it is totally dependent on where you want to take your business , i own a k plate mog that i have spent almost 15k on in the last two years (excluding tyres and servicing) i need to be able to rely on it as thee is work booked in for that machine 5/6 days a week every week , if it breaks down i need to be prepared to throw any amount o money at it to ensure that its back working asap ! - this in its self is hard enough with an experienced mog fitter with all the kit needed and more . A new mog is computerized and is not anywhere near as easy to work on unless your a dealer , recently i spoke to a fitter who has a 5000 series on his fleet that carried an insulated boomed mewp , the driver was dropping Tyre pressure before selecting a low gear to get through a gateway into a field when the air pressure dropped and spat out a gear . That mog was off of the road 4 almost 5 weeks while the dealer worked through the problem , im not totally sure if the fitter was right but he claimed that the gearbox has no less than 3 computers working it (this may include splitter box, transfer box etcetc) this cost the firm 15k in lost works and several thousand getting the problem sorted . you can see that both can cost you a serious amount of money to keep on the road and unless you have guaranteed work for it from day one i would be really careful before investing 5060 k on a second hand mog, chipper and timber trailer or upward of 100k if you wanna go brand new . I really dont want to put you off at all but i would not wanna lie to you and tell you how great it is to own a mog etc

  23. As Steve has said above it can be a real nightmare and bottomless pit of money owning a mog ! , i would also be mindful of the complications surrounding hauling timber for a client - im not overly sure that this would not get into the realms of running on an O license , if i were to arrange a large job and bring in such a service i would expect it to turn up no matter what and breakdowns would not be my problem ! for instance a crane job booked in with 5 men on site , road closures and area closed off etc etc if the contractor canceled last minute i would expect either a second mog, chipper and timber trailer to turn up or i would be looking to be compensated for my outlay . as steve has said you will need at least 25k sitting in the bank for such occasions .
