  1. My only advice would be to seriously consider just how many options/avenues of employment that would be open to you at the end of your training , i regularly hear og experienced harvester operators who are looking for work . not trying to put you off but it may be worth some serious consideration bfore spending a significant amount of money on training.
  2. as far as i am aware the 2011 barces fit the 2011 and 2012 trousers .
  3. i have a pair of gladiator type A's with the vents in the backs of the legs , i tend to climb in these as well as they are not so warm and less cumbersome . i think if i were in your situation i would go for a pair of type c gladiators and as Andy says get another pair in about 12 months and the rotate them .
  4. without sounding rude i would ave thought that there should be no need to refresh on rescue if it is practiced regularly , it should be made aware to every candidate that sits a training course that it is recommended to practice Aerial rescues regularly . That being said i do feel it would be a useful training tool and a great tool to use when organisations run their aerial rescue training/practice days
  5. my missus works in a bank , she started there on 15.5 k a year , four years later she earns 27k and has the responsibility of investing 1000's of other peoples money for them , often its the case that she is investing a retired persons life savings or the proceeds of a loved ones estate etc if she were to go to her employer and ask for more money because she does not feel she is earning enough for the job she does her employer would explain that she is on a pay grade that fits her level of qualification and skill and that there is a yearly pay review ! in other words if she does not like it move on ! so what is it about this industry that makes us feel that we are all worth so much because of what we do ??? if the industry is not bringing your boss enough money to enable him to pay you a wage that will suit your ideal lifestyle then find another industry !
  6. well said For what its worth i bet half of us on here running a company and being out on site every day earn less than than our staff .
  7. so is there a standard rate of pay for either climbers or groundsmen that we should work too ? if a subby is approached by a firm and he makes it clear what he charges then i cant see there would be a problem as long as thats what he is paid , for an employee i would have thought pay is discussed and documented at either the interview stage or by means of a written job offer , if your happy to take the job on the offer that has been made then i cant see there is a problem . The problem comes when the subby/employee do not clarify the pay structure . as for bosses paying peanuts etc i cant think of a firm where the staff dont question their pay or feel they deserve more .

It is aimed at both employed and self employed workers within the trade that rightly or wrongly feel that they warrant more money . its not a how dare you ask for more kind of thing or questioning the guys that are expected to carry out works/provide a service that is above what they are being paid.

In short i would ivite the planning enforcement officer over for a site meeting , once he has been and had a good nose i wold then suggest that you and him pop over to your business premises so that you can confirm that your trading from there . this should put a stop too your problems , if not then i would send a written request to the planning enforcement asking for evidence of the alleged accusation .
  11. without sounding harsh i do think that often people start to feel that they are what keeps the company going , what they forget is that if they left at the end of the week the company would still carry on and im most cases the position would be filled in no time at all . That being said it is still no excuse to pay poor wages . If the roles were to be swapped im fairly sure that it would soon become apparent as to how much outlay there is and how little profit (on average) is made from jobs .

But the subby does not have the sleepless nights worrying how the staff will be paid as they are owed 1000's , is the owner of a company not allowed a nice house because he is putting in 60+ hours a week ? or a nice car because he has not drawn anything more than a minimal wage ? , should he bow down to pressure and increase the wage to the wish of the staff and allow them to have the flash car and nice house ? just an other idea though

  17. in all fairness Steve in some areas of the country £100 per day is a fair wage , as you said allot depends on the companies business model and how much profit they are looking to make , down here in cornwall a two man team is lucky to make £450 a day , so even at 100 a day there would not be allot of profit to be had if any .

  20. i would also say that a husqvarna 346 is pretty much what you need to be looking at , it is a saw that i regularly see training centers using when i assess their candidates .
  21. how about a look the environmental impact that modern forestry machinery has on the woodlands and ways/newer methods that can be devised/implemented to reduce the long term damage and encourage wildlife back into British woodlands .

  23. Sorry im a little confused Chase who/what with the steam cleaner ??- Wife ? white goods ? helmet ? All of the above ?? or is it the wife grabs your helmet for you to chase her round the yard with the steam cleaner ?
  24. Yes quite fittingly "back on track" there is only a difference of 2 m3 betwen the 530T and 540T , does it make it worth getting a bigger machine that may not get to the places a smaller chipper can get to ? Will be interesting to hear how the demo goes
  25. :blushing:sorry one to many coffee's , i agree that anything other than an almost new chain should be thrown out , i can see that it must depend on how the chain snapped as to its possibility of being repaired . i bet you see some right sorry looking chains from the general public
