  1. sadly i missed the arb show as i was working . were you allowed to use any climbing system ?? ie a lock jack and friction saver ??
  2. my strop is purly for work position and not used as a life line so i feel my snap hook is perfectly fine . surely if there is such a problem with the snap hook why are they still bein fited to flip lines ?? i really can see how you can open your snap hook and your attachment point role out of it if your weight is on the strop ?? if your weight is in the strop then your attachment point should be firmly sat in the jaw of the snap hook . i was looking in one one of my staff last year when he was on his basic climbing course , when i git there the instror was demonstrating how to preform a pole rescue . the instructor was using the barrel 3way gate carabiners and explainin how they are much better than the origional 3 way gates as they cant come open accidently !!!! i looked up to see he had used one on his anchor point and the gate was wide open !!!! this is a high risk industry and i personally feel that the more that is done to try and stop accidents occouring the more kit get introduced and the risk therefor increases . what was wrong with screw gates and actually taking some responsibiliy for your own actions !!! i was doind sone industrial rope access and screw gates are all that we used . has anyone done a screw gate up when it has been under load and then tried to undo it while its no longer under load ?? for those of you tht have you will see that it is incredibly hard to undo it .
  3. all i would add that others have not said is that you really need to clen the tank thoroughly . there is an algie that causes this problem but unless you clean the tank really well and as has already been said you change every filter then the problem will keep recouring . the problem may be more likely if you have been storeing pleanty of diesel in drums this can also cause it
  4. i thnk i would re train as a re training adviser . seems to be loads of call for them lol!!!
  5. when i was 22 i was working on a night job , i was about to lower section of sycamore down and asked the groudsman to let the section run so that it did not come back and hit me !! to cut a long storey short he didnt let it run instead he held tight and the section of timber came back and dislocated my right shoulder . when i got to hospital they maniulated my shoulder back into it socket . and was told i would be off work for at leat 2-3 months . 5 days later a saw the ortherpedic surgeon who told me that he could not see me going back to climbing trees !!! but with 6 months of physio and alot of will power a gradually got back to work and eventually got back to climbing !! but the problem has not ended as i have dislocated my shoulder several times since but with more physio (some of it being private and costing alot) i have built up the strength in my shoulder . at first i thought that my tree surgery carer was over just as it was getting started . but it turned out to be totally different . so dont give up mate
  6. what are the targets ?? also do you have any picutres of the whole tree ?? it may be possible to reduce the effected scafolds .
  7. i really think that it is totally dependant on the individual , i have had some guys come to me that are worth 50 and some worth more , i had a guy as a subby and paid him 70 a day but there were alot of benefits for him such as use of my truck weekends , my 4x4 to go too and from work in and he did not have to provide his own saws , when he came to me when he first moved down he was a verry week and slow climber but when he left he was a good all round climber .
  8. i had the use of a western power distribution landrover fitted with reversing cam and i personally think they are well worth it mate . if i had a decent truck i would get one ha ha
  9. well that has fired me up and will now be trawling cornwall for something like that at a similar price . i think it would be great with a chipper on the back of a timber trailer !!!
  10. well i will be having to stick to dowe egberts for now !!! ]so whats your second hate at work !!!
  11. ha ha i know mate , but down in penzance you really do have to settle for next to last when it comes to coffe . so what is your list of reccomended coffies ??
  12. can remember to be honest mate . tell you what , if you are interested in either of them i can pop them in the back of the truk and bring them up for you to have a look at . so how much did you say you wanted for that 880 mate ?

  17. dont you hate it when you spend most of the day in a tree dismantling a tree only to find that when you get down your groundy has been on a go slow and you now have to do his job for him . but you really get wound up watching his pittifull effoerts to drag brash !!!!
  18. sounds like a great show , i wish i had been able to go but had to work .
  19. nice job mate , i was doing a similar job to tht on friday on a pine , it was gusting quite a bit down here but the tree was only about 45- 50 foot so all was good . but the groundy was not liking it never the less
  20. i have a genuine husky bar or an oregon bar both are 36 or 32 inch . cant remember now . let me know if your interested . the only thing i dont thik i have kicking round is a chain to go with them .
  21. i did one when the company i was waoring for bought a new grinder . it depends what your client base is really mate , if its all or mainly domestic then i wouldnt bother
  22. sorry to hear that mate . hope they catch the spineless turds soon mate
  23. i agree with nearly all of what you have said . i am not trying to tar everyone with tha same brush , all im saying is that if any of us were to advertise a job because we felt that it may help somone out who does not have a job etc etc i dont think any of us would be that happy when the thread turns into wht looked to be a college bashing . i know not all of the posts were like that but it did seem that many people have something about a side to the trade that they have not worked in .
  24. but then he is ginger and rather daft
