  1. yeah something around november or even feb would be good
  2. yes im currently lacking motivation . there is so much that i wanna do but for one reason or another i cant quite do yet . hows things going with you then shrek ?
  3. but shpuld you screw up when pruning or dismantling then the insurance will jump all over you . i did my cs40 and 41 about 3 years ago and it tought me loads that i did not alredy know and several skills that i had not been tought at merrist wood . IMO its well worth doing
  4. yeah i do agree but from the L/A's TO's point of view then i can imagine they would be more interested in retaining the tree taking into consideration its location and potential amenity value . but personally i think i would fell it and re plant with anothere blue atlantic
  5. great stuff . i currently have a pair of type c stretch air trousers with the longer leg and im really impressed with them .
  6. nice . do they do the in the extra long leg ?? they are only type a right?
  7. well knowing that im not the onl chunky climber i will be in attendance next yeart and will try to drag tommer9 up and dangerous brian up
  8. no probs mate you deserv it . i will hopefully come up next year and compete . so be prepared to beat me hands down ha ha
  9. warrior trousers ??? anyone got a picture ??
  10. hmmm next year i will have to give it a go then . but at 17 stone and 6ft1 tall im sure i will come second . but should give us all a good laugh . i was gutted i could not come to this years show
  11. i would love to organise something like justin has but down in devon . maybe i will do one day . but next year i will be taking some time off and going to alot of the shows all round the country oh and congratulations on winning the climbing comp steve well done !
  12. i did not even get so much as a decent answer as to why this happened . further to this i asked the guys on the work wear stand at the a show as to why this happened !! all the could tell me is that Haix Boots are the best . i asked why they think this and the said its simply because they are full stop !!. im now looking to get some stretch air boots they are not quite as high as the Haix but so far i have not heard of one bad report !!
  13. i see your point mark but if your climbing with a strop and your main line then a snap hook may not be a good idea . i tend to either get a high anchor point with my throw line or use my main line and a 10 meter line to get up into the ascend up into the tree as i find it faster than thrutch up a bit , put you strop round then throw your main line further up then thrutch up and start the proces all over again . i guess the use of a snap really does depend on your stile of climbing . as for the different industry and different practices i would have thought that being up to 400 foot up working on a cliff with drilling macinery would have far more stringent rules . another thought is why does cant someone come up with a 3 way snap hook ?
  14. there may be some one more option and that is reduction of weight and several rod braces ! some may condem me for saying this but it is still an approved method . obviosly this is only possiblke in some cases but betwene rod bracing , weight reduction and a 4 ton cobra system or simikar you may well get another 2-3 years out of the tree but i would inspect the tree every 6-8 months .
  15. sadly i missed the arb show as i was working . were you allowed to use any climbing system ?? ie a lock jack and friction saver ??
  16. my strop is purly for work position and not used as a life line so i feel my snap hook is perfectly fine . surely if there is such a problem with the snap hook why are they still bein fited to flip lines ?? i really can see how you can open your snap hook and your attachment point role out of it if your weight is on the strop ?? if your weight is in the strop then your attachment point should be firmly sat in the jaw of the snap hook . i was looking in one one of my staff last year when he was on his basic climbing course , when i git there the instror was demonstrating how to preform a pole rescue . the instructor was using the barrel 3way gate carabiners and explainin how they are much better than the origional 3 way gates as they cant come open accidently !!!! i looked up to see he had used one on his anchor point and the gate was wide open !!!! this is a high risk industry and i personally feel that the more that is done to try and stop accidents occouring the more kit get introduced and the risk therefor increases . what was wrong with screw gates and actually taking some responsibiliy for your own actions !!! i was doind sone industrial rope access and screw gates are all that we used . has anyone done a screw gate up when it has been under load and then tried to undo it while its no longer under load ?? for those of you tht have you will see that it is incredibly hard to undo it .
  17. all i would add that others have not said is that you really need to clen the tank thoroughly . there is an algie that causes this problem but unless you clean the tank really well and as has already been said you change every filter then the problem will keep recouring . the problem may be more likely if you have been storeing pleanty of diesel in drums this can also cause it
  18. i thnk i would re train as a re training adviser . seems to be loads of call for them lol!!!
  19. when i was 22 i was working on a night job , i was about to lower section of sycamore down and asked the groudsman to let the section run so that it did not come back and hit me !! to cut a long storey short he didnt let it run instead he held tight and the section of timber came back and dislocated my right shoulder . when i got to hospital they maniulated my shoulder back into it socket . and was told i would be off work for at leat 2-3 months . 5 days later a saw the ortherpedic surgeon who told me that he could not see me going back to climbing trees !!! but with 6 months of physio and alot of will power a gradually got back to work and eventually got back to climbing !! but the problem has not ended as i have dislocated my shoulder several times since but with more physio (some of it being private and costing alot) i have built up the strength in my shoulder . at first i thought that my tree surgery carer was over just as it was getting started . but it turned out to be totally different . so dont give up mate
  20. what are the targets ?? also do you have any picutres of the whole tree ?? it may be possible to reduce the effected scafolds .
  21. i really think that it is totally dependant on the individual , i have had some guys come to me that are worth 50 and some worth more , i had a guy as a subby and paid him 70 a day but there were alot of benefits for him such as use of my truck weekends , my 4x4 to go too and from work in and he did not have to provide his own saws , when he came to me when he first moved down he was a verry week and slow climber but when he left he was a good all round climber .
  22. i had the use of a western power distribution landrover fitted with reversing cam and i personally think they are well worth it mate . if i had a decent truck i would get one ha ha
  23. well that has fired me up and will now be trawling cornwall for something like that at a similar price . i think it would be great with a chipper on the back of a timber trailer !!!
  24. well i will be having to stick to dowe egberts for now !!! ]so whats your second hate at work !!!
  25. ha ha i know mate , but down in penzance you really do have to settle for next to last when it comes to coffe . so what is your list of reccomended coffies ??
