  1. i have had a call out contract and it worked really well for me untill the company tried to tightrn up on cost , time and equipment used on the call outs , ie if we were called out to a tree across a road we had to be there withing the hour , only using a two man team , with only the basic kit , and to top it of they then decided that if you were out ofr less than an hour no matter what time of the day or night you would only be pain £100 oh and traveling was only paid one way . in simple terms it was not worth it in the end . i am still verr interested in this call out contract but i feel that there is still not enough info being given .
  2. if the TO has stated that the tree is in his/her oppinion DDD then surely he/she must have father more evidence than his/her oppinion that the tree is in fact the dangerous , has he/she listed the targets ? carried out a qutra assessment ?? it sems highly strange that the TO has changed his stance and now decided that the tree must be felled . also for the TO to be able to fell the tree he/she needs to state a rather more informed report to the court as to why he has re inspected the tre after it has been reduced and exactly what the eason for this was and the exact findings and methods used , speculative thoughts will not get him anywhere but as the contractor i would be mindfull that if this tree does fail at any point further to your report stating that the tree is safe and poses a low risk even tho the TO has stated it needt to come down then the buk will probably stop with you !! but good luck with it
  3. lol i would have said i would buy it this time last week but after my experience of buyin one and having to take it back after laes than 48 hours i think i will give it a miss . i was told they are gutless not that gutless . good luck with your new truck mte hope al goes well for it . hope we can have some pics of it as well
  4. i used to use on in devon and as sid by everyone elts they carry a goo load well but if your looking to put a chip box on then you will not be able to carry much at all without being overloaded , they do drink fuel and parts from what my old boss told me are dear .but as for towing they are great and have a fantastic turning circle
  5. hiya shrek im not sure if its any use to you but i remembered you were looking for a tracked chipper and was looking through the farmers trader earlyer and came across a company selling 6 tracked jensen 530t's they are advertised that they have done less then 1000 hours and are 2004-2005 machines , the only thing is they are fountains blue !! they are asking £6,500 for them , hope it may be of some use to you mate . hope all goes well with tommers landy as well mate

  6. maybe add pressure washing , gutter cleaning , summerhouse painting , tarmac drives oh and leave the insurance bit off !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! only messing mate they look verry informative and strait to the point . good stuff , but have you considderd having 1000 printed ?? it can be a bit cheeper than having 500 run off every few months mate
  7. tyr the Silvanus Trust tommer , i tried but because im solely involved it tre surgery and not forestry of forrestry associated work such as milling etc i did not fit the criteria . further to that give south west busines enterprise trust a call . sorry i dont have any phone numbers mate , any way if you have any luck anywhere elts mate let me knowas im in a simmilar position that i need to get bigger machinery but banks dont wanna lend money and intrest rates on things such as the never never are far to high !!!
  8. its got to be better than an ldv , i had the one i bought less than 48 hours and took it back - lesson lernt lol
  9. in some instances yes i would but in the majority no i wouldnt , but neither would a butcher it ! if the client does not want to carry out the work that i as an arborist have recomended or the work the the tree consultant then clearly they are noot looking for a tree surgeon and nor are they willing to pay what a will charge !! im sorry guys im not a tree snob but i became a tree surgeon/ arborist because i actully care about trees and want to work in the trees best intrest as much as possible
  10. well said Dean , this is also how i work , im not saying that others that will carry out the work are less professional of less commited to industry best practise i understand that it is difficult to turn jobs away in todays current econonmic climate . but much like Dean said i will go into firewood or go back to industrial rope access before i start giving in to customers wanting trees butchered
  11. whilst thinking about rip cuts etc etc how about a utility cutting comp ??? lol
  12. now we're talking lets hope there is a specimine elm there , but i have to say i think the cornish contingency will win hands down But then again SWB will have a toy chainsaw from justin so he may be in with a shout ! surely its got to be sharper than one of my ms200's lol
  13. well that just about says it all - do we not work in the tree care industry ?? im not having a direct dig at anyone but i relly feel that i should be carrying out work that is arboriculturaly acceptable , i really dont care about the pressure put on me by the customer or the next door neighbour to hack it down a bit more , or cant you lake 70% off that plane . simples it aint happening if you dont like what im willing to do then dont use me , i dont need bad PR and certainly do not wish to go against what i stand for . i thought that tree surgery was ained at working in a way in which minimum stress and dammage to the tree is caused !!! Rant over for now lol
  14. not good mate , hope your finger heals well mate
  15. very true , the less we do to trees the better , you cant half thin a tree but you can thin one side you cant half crown lift a tree but you can crown lift the side of the tree over the path way - ie half doing something is not finnishing it if you see what i mean , but from my point of view simply cutting the top out of a tree does not constitute a reduction nor does leaving a flat top meet BS3998 standards!
  16. yeah i did in a round about way lol , the money i saved him on not having the trees taken down £1570 nearly paid for half of the bridge . im sure you must have done something similar before
  17. well said . looks like the snap hook my be getting a second chance lol , i was happy using it untill i was told by a loler inspector that it was not fit for purpose to be used on my adjustable strop !!!! but thanks for correcting him chaps
  18. but the point is that this guy is subbing to another company so i would expect them to know a good job from a bad job and what is right and wrong , i agree that the general public assume that we are the one with knowledge but not evy tree surgeon (using the term tree surgeon loosely) knows much about trees other than that you can make money from cutting them and making nice loking lollypop type shapes with them the point i was making in my origional post was that this guy is working for another company and does not feel the work that they are asking him to do is acceptable !!!
  19. it was that bad down here in cornwall that while driving down the road i saw two fishes, even they said sod this !!!
  20. if i do have to barce a tree a will always try to prune the tree or failing that the effected limb/scaffold , that way thw brace does its job and weight reduction will hopefully aid the tree some more , but there is a fine line betwene retaining a tree that with the above work will be structurally sound for the next 5-10 years and leaving a liability !!! as for q.t.r.a i am really interested in finding out more about it and going on a course to be able to use q.t.r.a but sadly down in cornwall there is no training that i know of
  21. i had to fight to get two Quercus Cerris stopped from felling , the land owner wante two perfectly healthy trees felled so that he did not have to put in an abr approved bridge over the tree roots (BS5837) . it took a week of constant calls to the LA that is normally exeptionally strict about the felling of any tree wether it is ded ,dying ,dangerous or not . but on this occasion they felt that 50-60 homes and a view of the upper cannopy's was not a good enough reason to stop the felling of the two mature oak trees . not nocking you mate but im sure you know all to well how varied and inconsistant plaaning departmentds can be . Also would it not be considdered that if the tree needs a brace due to its current condition then somethig like a QTRA assessment would put this at more than 1 in 20 thousand risk of failure ??? i personally try to limmit the ammount of bracing i do due to the fact that by identifying that a tree needs bracing is also admitting that the tree is structurally un-sound . but please correct me if you feel im wrong
  22. the trouble it that to most LA's a tree is a tree no matter its condition , location, targets etc etc and further to this they get the generall public well some of the tree hugging fraturnity pressuring them that every tree no matter what its condition is precious and must be saved at all costs im really not having a dig at the TO's amongst us purely the system in which they have to work
  23. if the tree has a moderate to low amenety value to 10 or so houses why has the tree been protected ?? surely the tree would/is exempt due to its mechanicle/structural weeknesses ?? i guess its hard to speculate or come to a conclusion without seeing the tree and its location !!! company outing anyone lol
  24. thanks guys that saves me spending 1500 on a shipping container , i think i will try to buid a pole shelter type thing lol
  25. so will you be reducing the prescribed limb to be braced as well by 20-25% ?? i think i thats probablly the route i would go down but without seeing where proposed development will be i can only speculate ! whats the condition throughout the rest of the tree bob ??
