  1. is that the same as the southwest woodlands show ??? as i have been trying to find out when it is . Usually its during september but not sure when .
  2. have you thought about using hazel ?? not something many would reomend but i have used it and it works a treat with various methods for management . either hadge laying or standard hedge cutting , bnut just a thught oh and its a bit different to what most people are going for !!!
  3. do you have a fax ??? if so i can send you a parts diagram , if not im happy to talk you through putting it back together , i have had to do a few of them now lol
  4. i went to merrist wood for ten weeks and learnt a massive amount more in ten weeks than i had in the 3 years that i had already been working in the trade . Not only did i learn alot of newer practical techniques but i gained a wealth of knowledge in the theory side of the job too . i feel that the course was well worth it . however i have since worked with a couple guys that have recently done the ten week course at Merrist Wood and it seems that the standards have dropped dramaticly . i do feel that an aprenticeship is the better route to go down if you have someone as a mentor that has the kind of experiance and knowlege of someone like bob skyhuc , but no god to if you end up working with a small one man band that will not let you progress . p.s sorry about the gramer and spelling - something i did not learn at college lol
  5. i have had 6 ms200t's and every one of them has had to have a new carb , stihl have been less than helpfull throughout this and after the third carb i called stihl technicle and asked what the problem so they basicly blamed the manufacturer of the carbs and told me what the model number of the carbs was that have caused the problem, great i said so later that evening a had a look at two other saws , one was nearly new (about2 months old) and the other was brand new and dontyou know they have the same faulty carb fitted !!. next day im back on the phone to stihl asking why both my new saws still have that carb ???? i did not get an answer from them i gave them the serial numbers of the saw's and asked the guy too look into it . About a week later i got a call from him saying that he still does not know wh this happened etc etc so i asked him for 2 replacment carbs as i did not want to wait for them to go wron one day when out on site because like he said they all seem to go wron at around the same amount of hours use !!! The answer i got from him was NO stihl does not and will not do that , you will just have to wait till they go wrong but if they are older then a year (which by the ammount of hours it takes for them to start going wrong) i will have to pay as the waranty will have expired !!!! Im now really hoping that Husky bring out a serious contender to the MS200T and soon !!!!! if it were to be as good as the ms200t but without all the breakdowns then i would be quickly moving over to them !!
  6. im using a stein plasma for climbing fitted with peltor defenders and tinted visor and whne im on the ground or its raining a use my petzel with peltor defenders and mesh visor . if a had to chose one then i would chose the stein every time
  7. good point , maybe you could change your company name to - top it lop it and hop it
  8. Arbex arboricultural contractors and consutants or Arbex tree specialists
  9. i think they are getting the answers from the fat bloke down the pub lol , or is it based on what the average tree surgeon nees to earn to be able to afford to use this service
  10. i know a chap that bought a couple tct chains and he was saying that they are great while your cutting clean timber but as soon as you start to cut and contaminated timber they dull just like a normal chain but a bit slower. I think they are usefull on jobs where like skyhuc said you have been winching or your working on a building site etc but i certainly would not use them that ogten at all , the cost of a tct chain out weighs the time it would take me to sharpen a normall chain - also something you could not do with a tct chain it needs to be sharpened by a specialist
  11. i was looking at an advert in my local yellow pages so the lady came round spouted on about how many times the book is used to find tree work per day ??? how do they know that ??? then she proceded to tell me that the advertising i currently had was of poor quality and my busines cards did not sell my company well ??WTF?? in the end with all the art work (if you can call it that) the advert and a monitored phone number i was going to hand her over £1200 !!!! not likely . i was speaking to dangerous brian and he took out an add with them and in 2 months and£700 later he has had one crap job come from it . As for Yel.com i had the whole irish pixi call me tyr to sell me some web advertising for another daft ammount of money and asked could i handly all the work that i will be geting from them ???? but when i asked for proof to his aclimed figures he was not too forthcoming !! so he was told where to go ! but still for about 3 weeks he felt he should keep calling me trying to prove that i was wrong and i needed his help !!!! oh and as for the thompson lacall i really would not waste your time with them !! i have advertised with them for 2 years now and it really has not been worth it what so ever . especially when they printed my advert this year with the wrong phone number on it and added crap images to the advert that i told them i did not want - there excuse was well im really sorry mr Mathews but we did send out a proof to you and we are sorry you didnt get it but that is not our fault its yours !!!! all in all a think the best advertising is like others on here have said and thats to signwright your trusk really well , get your work clothes printed and use local papers etc failing that 2K would buy you your own advertising board/trailer !!!!!
  12. i have had a call out contract and it worked really well for me untill the company tried to tightrn up on cost , time and equipment used on the call outs , ie if we were called out to a tree across a road we had to be there withing the hour , only using a two man team , with only the basic kit , and to top it of they then decided that if you were out ofr less than an hour no matter what time of the day or night you would only be pain £100 oh and traveling was only paid one way . in simple terms it was not worth it in the end . i am still verr interested in this call out contract but i feel that there is still not enough info being given .
  13. if the TO has stated that the tree is in his/her oppinion DDD then surely he/she must have father more evidence than his/her oppinion that the tree is in fact the dangerous , has he/she listed the targets ? carried out a qutra assessment ?? it sems highly strange that the TO has changed his stance and now decided that the tree must be felled . also for the TO to be able to fell the tree he/she needs to state a rather more informed report to the court as to why he has re inspected the tre after it has been reduced and exactly what the eason for this was and the exact findings and methods used , speculative thoughts will not get him anywhere but as the contractor i would be mindfull that if this tree does fail at any point further to your report stating that the tree is safe and poses a low risk even tho the TO has stated it needt to come down then the buk will probably stop with you !! but good luck with it
  14. lol i would have said i would buy it this time last week but after my experience of buyin one and having to take it back after laes than 48 hours i think i will give it a miss . i was told they are gutless not that gutless . good luck with your new truck mte hope al goes well for it . hope we can have some pics of it as well
  15. i used to use on in devon and as sid by everyone elts they carry a goo load well but if your looking to put a chip box on then you will not be able to carry much at all without being overloaded , they do drink fuel and parts from what my old boss told me are dear .but as for towing they are great and have a fantastic turning circle
  16. hiya shrek im not sure if its any use to you but i remembered you were looking for a tracked chipper and was looking through the farmers trader earlyer and came across a company selling 6 tracked jensen 530t's they are advertised that they have done less then 1000 hours and are 2004-2005 machines , the only thing is they are fountains blue !! they are asking £6,500 for them , hope it may be of some use to you mate . hope all goes well with tommers landy as well mate

  17. maybe add pressure washing , gutter cleaning , summerhouse painting , tarmac drives oh and leave the insurance bit off !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! only messing mate they look verry informative and strait to the point . good stuff , but have you considderd having 1000 printed ?? it can be a bit cheeper than having 500 run off every few months mate
  18. tyr the Silvanus Trust tommer , i tried but because im solely involved it tre surgery and not forestry of forrestry associated work such as milling etc i did not fit the criteria . further to that give south west busines enterprise trust a call . sorry i dont have any phone numbers mate , any way if you have any luck anywhere elts mate let me knowas im in a simmilar position that i need to get bigger machinery but banks dont wanna lend money and intrest rates on things such as the never never are far to high !!!
  19. its got to be better than an ldv , i had the one i bought less than 48 hours and took it back - lesson lernt lol
  20. in some instances yes i would but in the majority no i wouldnt , but neither would a butcher it ! if the client does not want to carry out the work that i as an arborist have recomended or the work the the tree consultant then clearly they are noot looking for a tree surgeon and nor are they willing to pay what a will charge !! im sorry guys im not a tree snob but i became a tree surgeon/ arborist because i actully care about trees and want to work in the trees best intrest as much as possible
  21. well said Dean , this is also how i work , im not saying that others that will carry out the work are less professional of less commited to industry best practise i understand that it is difficult to turn jobs away in todays current econonmic climate . but much like Dean said i will go into firewood or go back to industrial rope access before i start giving in to customers wanting trees butchered
  22. whilst thinking about rip cuts etc etc how about a utility cutting comp ??? lol
  23. now we're talking lets hope there is a specimine elm there , but i have to say i think the cornish contingency will win hands down But then again SWB will have a toy chainsaw from justin so he may be in with a shout ! surely its got to be sharper than one of my ms200's lol
  24. well that just about says it all - do we not work in the tree care industry ?? im not having a direct dig at anyone but i relly feel that i should be carrying out work that is arboriculturaly acceptable , i really dont care about the pressure put on me by the customer or the next door neighbour to hack it down a bit more , or cant you lake 70% off that plane . simples it aint happening if you dont like what im willing to do then dont use me , i dont need bad PR and certainly do not wish to go against what i stand for . i thought that tree surgery was ained at working in a way in which minimum stress and dammage to the tree is caused !!! Rant over for now lol
  25. not good mate , hope your finger heals well mate
