  1. i guess you dont do any dual carrage way work or motorways then mate . i would get some funny looks form the plod ang highways if i were to be facing into the traffic lol
  2. lol i stand corrected ! well any way i would still do it !! as for the trailer test i think you will find the criteria has sadly gone up and now you dont only have to e able to manouver a trailer you need to jump through hoops !!
  3. Do explain bob:001_smile: , im only going on what i was told by the chap that did all the vehicle based training when i was at cannon hortiulture
  4. but how quickly could you get that grand back ?? how many companies looking at your CV and seeing that you have your class 2 hgv will see the benefits to taking you on over someone with a trailer ticket ??? also it could be a good bargaining point for extra pay ??
  5. yes the material is expensive and does not last too long on the back of your chipper or tipper , i dont know if any of you work on motorways but from past experience its even worse . the trouble is that legeslation keeps changing !!!! has anyone done all of this and then been told that a single rotating beacon is not sufficiant enough to work on dule carrage ways or motorways ??
  6. i feel that clearly it is an important element to the industry and know verry well just how dificult it is logisticaly to get all the kit you ned to sit sometimes when you dont have enough staff with a pre 97 licence or with C1+e . on the other habd i have worked with guys that have a pre 97 licence and are not able to tow or reverse a trailer !! my only advice is that rather than taking your trailer test why not take your HGV2 ??? that way you can drive any size lorry right up to 16 wheelers and your able to tow a trailer behind a 3.5 ton truck thus having the best of both worlds and making your self much more employable !!! and in todays current climate thats a big pluss
  7. cracking work mate , looks really good and really nice to see such work !!!
  8. yeah i still dont know exactly what was stolen but it happened about 3 days before the aa show mate i know it was a large ammount of kit (more than 10k i think )
  9. i dont wanna sound rude but has anyone asked honeys what they had pinched ?? i dont wanna point figers or anything but having seeral new saws for sale in these circumstances seems a bit strange to me !!! but thats only my oppinion
  10. ahhhh i see , i guess that will be the harness the fletchers had at the aa show then . well any way i hope it will be as good if not better than the origionall . could you give me some feed back as a pm when you can , if not its no probs . thanks for getting back to me anyway:001_smile:
  11. i would share the prices with you all but think it would be a bit foolish to give some of my competitors a helping hand . but what i would say is i would not do such a thing unless i had a binding contract with them , its really simple to set up , if you wanna talk it through feel free to pm me . maybe someone like skyhuck or swb or bob will be able to shed some more light as well , they do have a fair few years on me and alot of experience than me tbh
  12. where abouts in the country is that too then ?? i would be really keen on going to that
  13. i do alot of work for a large company and have set up a system based on size classing ie dbh (size classing) it work relatively well as ther is no need to price every job individually , whether its felling , reducing , thinning lifting or formative work there is a set price unless the job has exceptional circumstances attached . as for pricing in general i think alot of the formulas are based on the age , size and financial status of the company - meaning every company prices in its own way . i think the trick is to sit down and work out your expenses and what the minimum your willing to earn is , then from that you can factor in how much you feel you can make on top of that on each individual job . ie your minimum daily income is £100 a day and you are pricing to take down a large beech taking severall days with high risk involved then you will want to factor in a higher proffit margin to than you would on a simple crown lift on a small sycamore . obviously the requirement of more equipment for the larger job would inflate the cost of the job further
  14. well said !!!
  15. i have not been climbing anywhere near as long as skyhuck but i have never washed any of my climbing kit , the most my rope has seen is a rope brush and a bath of cold water . if you dont want your kit so smell musty etc hang it out to air over the weekends if you can of on the washing line at home for a day !!!!!
  16. lol tell me more , what is you oppinion on it so far ?? i have the originonal at the moment but im thinking of getting the new one when it finally goes on sale lol
  17. well said dean , i know that lock jacks are relativly new and many climbers are not keen on them, when i first tried it out at first i was not that keen on it but after using it a bit more a soon realised just how much better i found it and how much more productive my time was when climbing . in my oppinio0n its a great bit of kit and worth the £180 i paid
  18. i spent most of today reducing a beech tree in the rain , i tend to use one end of my rope and a long strop . as the guys above have said take it slow and use redirects , also i bought some rock climbing webbing ring -strops of various lengths i use them to choker off round branches to put my feet in to climb out or you can add a revolver carab to it and use them like a re-direct , also tif you can get away with it just use a silky if you not cuttin anything too big off ! beats carrying an MS200 round a slipery tree in the rain any way good luck out in the industry
  19. i know a company in devon with one of them , really nice macine - not such a nice price tag lol
  20. i have spent today using my lock jack sport swivel and art friction saver and highly rate it , i have also been trying out the pantin foot ascended and hand ascender with it ond got on really well . i tried the hitcher but didnt feel it was as good as the lock jack BUT THAT IS ONLY ME PERSONAL OPPINION LOL
  21. nice job mate , looks like it was good fun !! is the the new kolbri harness your using ??
  22. hiya guys im looking at selling my 7.5 ton ex bt lift platform to get soething with a bit more reach and maybe a bit smaller , and was wondering what you guys are using , my current mewp has a reach of 15 meters and an out reach of 6-7 meters when 7 meters up , i find its ok for powerline work but still very restricting
  23. i know that feeling mate , not all companies are the same tho , but really dont throw in the towel mate trust me you will regret it in the long run
  24. well said steve , i picture can tell a thousand stories sometimes it is easy to jump to a conclusion , im not saying thtas the case in this thread but just goes to show how easy it can be to get the wrong idea !!
  25. have you thought of working away weekdays ? im sure there must be something on arb jobs mate
