  1. i would make some mounting brackets up that are lockabe and fit it to the roof of my chip box!!! secure and out of the way , im sadly still using glass fider insulated poles with saw head , lopper head and hook head seems a bit more flexible and easyer to carry
  2. great stuff glad to hear you got it sorted , if that had happened to me down here in cornwall i would have been 3 days waiting for the parts to be delivered
  3. i have a timberwolf tw190 for sale , i have towed it with a transit , ldv , ford ranger etc etc give me a pm if interested , i would be happy to bring it part way if required
  4. too right mate , im sure tommer does not mind , im sure if he did then you would be getting a reply like poor old jellystock got from him lmao:001_tt2:
  5. i think that it would be interesting to get some reviews on head tourches seings it is winter and many of us do get called out in the middle of the night . also i would not mind seeing some comparisons for insurance for tree surgeons and possibly see if or who is doing some of the best insurance packages for the industry . oh and please please please could you get some info or even a review on the new ekn harnesses that are due to come out any time now
  6. glad im not the only one , but i really have found it to be the easyest way there is to remove the clutch:thumbup:
  7. im sure some of you will not approve of my method but i usually tend to leave the spark plug in and simply take of the side casing and use an air impact gun (like they use in garrages for changing wheels etc, all you have to remember is that you need to have the gun set for doing up rather than un doing . it works a treat and work first time every time
  8. that aint good , how old is the saw an d how many chains have you gone through ???
  9. great idea , i had a 9 inch gree mech on demmo for a couple days and if it had been fitted with something like that then we would have kept it
  10. lol i have come out of trees at speed because of the same thing , i have also got my saw strop cought round the toggle and dropped my saw down (that can wake you up for sure lol) but all in all once you get used to using the lock jack and find your own methods that suit you then it really can be a great bit of kit
  11. do you have one feed roler with bladed edges and one feed roler with spiked edges ??
  12. the clutch springs used to be prone to snapping , not sure if they are still the same but they used to be C shape and made from quite thin tensile steel , i personally use 357's and highly rate them
  13. yes i think it is , they are also replacable if they are too badly dammaged ,i would recommend that if your thinking of sharpening them i would get them sharpened proffessionaly and change the feed roler tension spring as well
  14. Take Holden Hill just outside exeter for example , the harvesting of timber has trebled over the last 5 years , i went back up to have a look last week and was supprised to see just how much has been done and how much has been marked up for harvesting and this is not thinnings either they are now mainly flearfell sites
  15. anyone using mardale wet weatyher gear , i have a marlow tree top climbing jacket - well worth it did of kit , we also use gortex all in one suits when were are on the ground (courtesy of western power lol )
  16. good for you jay , its always good to hear when someone who really wants to get into the industry actually get a chance to do so
  17. Give Silvanus services a call down in launceston and ask to speak to Ian johnstone , he may be able to help you out , failing that give K.J thulborne in painton a call , it may not be tree work all the time but its still work
  18. to be honest i haver been using marlow chamelion and salamander with my lock jack as it is what i already had, before getting a specific rope for a lock jack i would try using a lock jack and friction saver first , it can take quite a bit of getting used to and now everyone gets on with it , as for info on the spider jack have a search through other threads , swb already ahs a thread - good by vt hello spiderjack ,
  19. simples dont bother climbing , put in a decent gob and leave a big hinge lmao . now in all seriousness i have never been to a climbing comp but would love to go some time even if its just to watch or even to help out
  20. well first i would get a husky 346 if you want a small saw and i would run it on fukll chisel chain , but it does depend on what your doing with it
  21. pm me and im sure i can sort you out a job down this way , the team leader drives down daily from oakhampton and im sure there is plenty of scope for you
  22. i cli9mb on the ekn and have found it a great harness , it gives plenty of support to both your lower back and lumbar and the rigid padding in the leg loops is very comfortable and great if your spending long periods of time with all your weight in your harness , there is plenty of kit loops for attaching spare climbing gear and lowering gear as well , i have also found the harness really really comfortable when using spikes and a strop BUT i tend to attach my flip line or strop to the bridge attachment poins because it means that your legs take some of the pressure rather than all of the pressure being on your waist . all in all a really good harness , im now waiting to replace mine as the newer version with a few alterations such as quick release leg loops and better saw attachment points . should be good tho , well it was from what i saw up at the AA show
  23. i really woulg go and try several harneses on if i were you , i bought a ptezel when they verry first came into the tree world and to be honest i wish a had not bought it , it was not comfy , had no sliding d and gave verry little suppore oh and was not comfy when using spikes and strop to chog down a stem , i then when out a tried several harnesses including a weaver , willians, cresto , commet butterfly and tree austria 1 i found the butterfly1 i found the butterfly about the best for me so bought it and got on really well with it and once it had worn out i went strait out and bought the butterfly2 and within 6 months i was getting back pain and the harness was becomming more and more uncomfortable to climb in so i tried a tree majic for a few monthst and found that to be just as bad so i then went and tried on as many different harnesses as i could untill i found one that suited me which was the skylotec i have been climbing in it for about two years and its now looking like time to get a new harness , so do i go out and get the new skylotec when it finally comes out of do i try several harnesses again and see whats best ?? i think i will try a few on untill i find one that suits me
  24. well done mate and happy new year
