  1. im pretty certain the second pic shows Polyporus Squamosus. as fpr the first pic i aint got a clue sorry
  2. yeah i understand that his TR ratios are for a tree with a full and un pruned crown . what got me looking at his ratio and how it coresponds with various pathogens in different ways , im not really to hot on my Fungi but am really keen to expand my knowlege much further and also my knowlege of the reactions of different species of tree have to different fungi . so far i have seen that the TR ratios do differ from tree species to tree species and also that where cavities are present that they too can make a massive difference ie: that if the cavity within a tree is larger than the stem radius then the TR ratio will be greatly reduced .
  3. ha ha ha ha great stuff , i nearly spat my coffe out !!!!! that reminds me i must stop drinking coffe this late at night !!!!
  4. nice pictures mate , how tall was the tree and what size was the canopy spread ?? im only curious because im interested in the corolation betwene the they various types of fungal fruiting bodies and there impact on the tree and Mattheck's theory of TR=0.3 . its interesting how some FFB's affect a trees structure to the point of collapse and some FFB's that are just as agressive and do not cause the tree to fail for a much greater period of time .
  5. hiya are you willing to come down to cornwall to do it ?? if not give bickton college a call
  6. i really dont mean to sound harsh but you are much better off buying a brand new porter wrap of something similar rather than a second hand device that could well have been abused and overloaded . secondly i think that most of us that have a small lowering device would not seel it as they are often usefull on the smaller lowering jobs i know i would not sell mine
  7. the grinch will never do it tom while your convincing him can you try and get my autherisation sorted please ???
  8. do you fancy shipping some over at a verry reasonable rate for arb talk members seeing you live so close
  9. Great vid steve looks like it was a cracking job in a cracking location
  10. roughyl 1/2 inch from the ground by any chance ????
  11. yes i have seen a sycamore that was crown lifted probably ten years ago and now is in need of felling due to the presence of Polyporus Squamosus.
  12. yes thats starting to make more sense now lol , i really must try to remember more of what a learn and read lmao
  13. how are you getting on with your spider jack now Shrek ??
  14. i guess it depends on the tree and the ammount that you are reducing , i probably have not explained it propperly , basicly it was along the lines that its better to leave fewer biger pruning cuts rather than leave lots and lots of smaller cuts . but then thinking about it i may be confusing it with shigo but im not totally sure
  15. i have been looking at the hub and could not find to many uses that justified getting one but your vid has so looks like i will be getting one .
  16. i have just become a limited company trading as- Combined Tree services Tree Surgeons Ltd lol tried to cover as many of the above as i could lol
  17. with the tree being a euc i would not bee to keen to reduce the tree by too much because they are prone to putting on prefuse regrowth so the heavyer the reduction the more re-growth and the lighter the reduction will be pointless because any re-growth will quickly shoot away making the light reduction slightly pointless and to be honest if your only taking a small amount of the tree be means of reduction then i dont see how it will allow that much more light into the property . as for crown lifting i think that a crown lifting can and is a very usefull tool if carried out corectly but too many people do not pay any attention to the trees species and how it will repond to the type of pruning that they are about to carry out . As for Claus i seem to recall in a seminar i went to that he felt that its better to reduce a tree buy taking out several larger limbs/ branches leving fewer pruning wounds rather than pruning every branch back and creating lots and lots of small wounds that the tree will find harder to compartmentalise etc etc , has anyone oelts heard him talk about this ?
  18. i have had simailar happen to me and like the rest of you i found my self asking how they could do it for that price. The more i thought about it the more i got annoyed about it untill i gave the whole situation a little more thought and then realised that these guys are doing me a favor in that they are basicly buying work and sooner or later they will go bust and as already said on here while they are doing the jobs where the owner will not pay a decent tree surgeon a fair price for doing the job i can carry on earning decent money from decent clients . i have found that generally the clients that do not want to pay a fair price normally are awkward to work for and will do anything they can to get out of paying the bill
  19. great pic's and even better video Rupe , its nice to see some different methods for rigging and has given me a few things to try out , where did you get the rigging ring from mate ??
  20. personally i think that it is more imprtant to have a wider range of assessment and inspection methods that are able to use , such as QTRA, VTA, etc etc. im sure there are many trees in which QTRA is not appropriate to be used on . please correct me if im wrong but is QTRA not seen as the approved method of calculating the risk factors of trees with both the HSE and AA ?? only asking as im not totally sure
  21. why not see if you can sit down with the guy and come to an agreement with him , i have a yard and the guy that owns it is a pain in the arse BUT we give his daughter logs for free , we strim and weed spray his yard for free but this all means that we keep the yard. to be honest i think that sometimes its better to get an agreement on paper so that everyone knows where they stand
  22. personally i have worked with several LA TO's that use QTRA and to be honest i think it works really well , take for instance a recent oak tree that was reportedly "dangerous" because a member of the public had made such a statement to the council they had to get the TO in to inspect it . While inspecting the tree the woman that made the call to the council came out and asked what was going to happen ? so the TO explained that the tree needed some minor dead wooding and a 1 meter crown lift . The woman then goes mad stating that the tree is dangerous and that she can not see how it can be left ! so the TO goes through the QTRA asessment with the woman and explains exactly what he is doing and how QTRA works. The woman is now happy to have the tree retained and for the works to be done .
  23. do you have a tenancy argreement ?? or a contractual agrement for the yard your renting ?? i have an industrioa unit and when we took it on it was made clear to us exactly what we could and could not do .
  24. did anyone see rowlan furden there or his son ?? did anyone from devon trees go along ???
