  1. yes thats starting to make more sense now lol , i really must try to remember more of what a learn and read lmao
  2. how are you getting on with your spider jack now Shrek ??
  3. i guess it depends on the tree and the ammount that you are reducing , i probably have not explained it propperly , basicly it was along the lines that its better to leave fewer biger pruning cuts rather than leave lots and lots of smaller cuts . but then thinking about it i may be confusing it with shigo but im not totally sure
  4. i have been looking at the hub and could not find to many uses that justified getting one but your vid has so looks like i will be getting one .
  5. i have just become a limited company trading as- Combined Tree services Tree Surgeons Ltd lol tried to cover as many of the above as i could lol
  6. with the tree being a euc i would not bee to keen to reduce the tree by too much because they are prone to putting on prefuse regrowth so the heavyer the reduction the more re-growth and the lighter the reduction will be pointless because any re-growth will quickly shoot away making the light reduction slightly pointless and to be honest if your only taking a small amount of the tree be means of reduction then i dont see how it will allow that much more light into the property . as for crown lifting i think that a crown lifting can and is a very usefull tool if carried out corectly but too many people do not pay any attention to the trees species and how it will repond to the type of pruning that they are about to carry out . As for Claus i seem to recall in a seminar i went to that he felt that its better to reduce a tree buy taking out several larger limbs/ branches leving fewer pruning wounds rather than pruning every branch back and creating lots and lots of small wounds that the tree will find harder to compartmentalise etc etc , has anyone oelts heard him talk about this ?
  7. i have had simailar happen to me and like the rest of you i found my self asking how they could do it for that price. The more i thought about it the more i got annoyed about it untill i gave the whole situation a little more thought and then realised that these guys are doing me a favor in that they are basicly buying work and sooner or later they will go bust and as already said on here while they are doing the jobs where the owner will not pay a decent tree surgeon a fair price for doing the job i can carry on earning decent money from decent clients . i have found that generally the clients that do not want to pay a fair price normally are awkward to work for and will do anything they can to get out of paying the bill
  8. great pic's and even better video Rupe , its nice to see some different methods for rigging and has given me a few things to try out , where did you get the rigging ring from mate ??
  9. personally i think that it is more imprtant to have a wider range of assessment and inspection methods that are able to use , such as QTRA, VTA, etc etc. im sure there are many trees in which QTRA is not appropriate to be used on . please correct me if im wrong but is QTRA not seen as the approved method of calculating the risk factors of trees with both the HSE and AA ?? only asking as im not totally sure
  10. why not see if you can sit down with the guy and come to an agreement with him , i have a yard and the guy that owns it is a pain in the arse BUT we give his daughter logs for free , we strim and weed spray his yard for free but this all means that we keep the yard. to be honest i think that sometimes its better to get an agreement on paper so that everyone knows where they stand
  11. personally i have worked with several LA TO's that use QTRA and to be honest i think it works really well , take for instance a recent oak tree that was reportedly "dangerous" because a member of the public had made such a statement to the council they had to get the TO in to inspect it . While inspecting the tree the woman that made the call to the council came out and asked what was going to happen ? so the TO explained that the tree needed some minor dead wooding and a 1 meter crown lift . The woman then goes mad stating that the tree is dangerous and that she can not see how it can be left ! so the TO goes through the QTRA asessment with the woman and explains exactly what he is doing and how QTRA works. The woman is now happy to have the tree retained and for the works to be done .
  12. do you have a tenancy argreement ?? or a contractual agrement for the yard your renting ?? i have an industrioa unit and when we took it on it was made clear to us exactly what we could and could not do .
  13. did anyone see rowlan furden there or his son ?? did anyone from devon trees go along ???
  14. if it helps at all merrist wood have had one lad die there and two more lads hav had serious falls there , jack kenyon was telling us when we got there that the hse had only just allowed them to teach tree climbing again because a lad had fallen out of a tree on the course before us , he then told us to get our climbing kit s ready as we were going for a climb in the campus woods ha ha he's a great chap lol
  15. personally i would go for a Transit if you are not in need of four wheel drive , i used to have a Transit tipper and that would carry much more chip than a cabstar and proably two and a half times what my ranger tipper will hold .
  16. hmmm you guys should get tommer it to tow people out , i have heard he can tow ywo artic lorries , a macsalvors crane and an ice cream truck !!!And that before he has to put his rot box into low ratio ha ha ha ha
  17. thats bread and butter reduction, and you ALL know it, so stop talking utter crap! it looked more like a reduction with excessive thinig that has caused lion tailing , i totally understand that what the customer asks for the customer is meant to get BUT i do find if verry hard to agree with . If the customer were to ask you to wear spikes whilst doing the reduction would you do it ?? im not aiming this question at you in specific its aimed generally,
  18. personally i would not bother with a crew cab tipper , i have a single cab ranger with a tipper on it and to be honest that gets filled quickly enough , i would hate to lose another couple feet off the tipper , also would there not bee too much weigh loaded over the back axle ?
  19. sadly i still choaker my saw strop on to my ms200's but my give the dmm carab a go on the lock jack
  20. the end product looks astheticly pleasing but i think that in some ways he has made a bit of a rod for his own back because there looks to be quite a bit of lion tailing throughout the canory , im not knocking you im mearly expressing my oppinion.I thimk we have all been in this situation at some point or another , i was asked to take the entire side of a semi mature oak off just so that the client could get sky television , i tried my best to exlpain that its totally against bs standards and more than that it goes totally against the grain for me personally , i tried reducing the one side whist being sympathetic and it did not woro so in the end i did have to do as he wanted , personally i would rather have felled the tree rather than leave it in the condition that i did Thank god its only the owner that can see it !!!!!
  21. personally i think that it could look pretty ropey if im honest , depending on the thickness/densitty of the hedge i think i would be inclined to lay the smaller diamiter growth , rermove some of the bigger stuff and possibly selectivly leave some of the Maple ,but i can totally understand that it is totally up to the client at the end of the day but i would try to deter him from laying the whole hedge . Once again this is only my opinion on it . good luck tho and hope all goes well
  22. takes hours but you get there in the end , that pile you did the other day looked just like you had used a log splitter on the back of a brown david
  23. carving and firewood are the same thing aint they:sneaky2:
