  1. apparently they are now fillming the newer, better version and ita called a ford ranger is born & the old crappy landrover is scrapped ha ha ha ha lmao
  2. yew will be up in an hour with your drikies mate , you did have 4 bottles but i managed to break one

  3. Where is geordy boy ????
  4. Speaking from experience the clearence of trees from proximity to powerlines should where ever possible should be carried out to comply with BS3998 , there is not case of only getting the minimum clearence because of public outcry in conservation or tpo areas its in fact down to the company carrying out the work , the intrest of the serveyor and the skill of the climber carrying out the work to the tree . BUT some companies are not willing to spend time working to BS3998 and that is when you get the L shaped trees etc but what also needs to be taken into account is the utiilittys act which in fact allowes a powerline clearence contractor to cut any tree that is touching powerlines and could result in electrocution or death to gain a 1 meter clearence without having to ask the LA's permision ,however this act IMO is obused and used far to easily . as for cutting one side off of a tree to gain a clearence is still not acceptable and the company that has done the work could be liable should the tree or assosiated trees fail or become dangerous . Basicly there is still no need for trees to be butchered for the sake of powerlines . as for the railway im not at all sure how there rules and regs work
  5. sounds like i went down the same route as you , good to hear your doing well
  6. Huck you said earl;yer in this thread that it was partially your fault because you sold the pile of timber thatc was hiding the shed !! This really gets me because why should you have to do things like not sell piles of timber for fear of the thieving swines noticing your container ?? you like many of us have worke bloody hard to get what you have got !! and personally i think that having a dog that lets you know someone is there is a great idea I used to work for a company that did all of the tree work for the mod down this way and one day was chatting to one of the security guards who patroled with a dog and asked him how much training it took to get the dogs to take an intruder to the ground! . His reply to me was that they are not allowed to let the dogs off their leed to stop an intruder even tho there is a 12 foot perimetre fence topped of with razor wire and with visible signs telling the public to keep out . Just goes to show how soft the country has gone when it comes to intruders and oppertunist thieves.
  7. ha ha like you said we did tell him . i still have your card and drinks here , if your in tomorrow a will try to pop up with them mate , i totally forgot on the last day of work and again on christmad eve lol .

  8. nice to see that not everyone feels that tree reductions must leve the tree looking like a lolly pop (not a dig at anyone on here) i personally like to keep the tree looking as un uniformed as possible . on this job i think the corronet cuts are well chosen and really finnished the job off well . Great work guys!!
  9. the accident had alredy been reported to the hse under Riddor . TBH i think alot of this is caused by the crazy blame culture that we live in
  10. such an awfull way to go , thought go out to his familly and friends
  11. the whole thing from start to finnish was not right IMO the company he was climbing for were amazed when they got the letter from his NO WIN NO FEE claims company - i knew the expert witness that was involved with the case and he could not believe that the guy had done it , basicly it was the guys own fault that he fell out of the tree was the exact words of the expert witness when he was talking to me about it , i was not trying to prove a point as such but mearly putting accross a possibility of what can happen , and totally agree that a written contract should be used at least that way everyone knows where they stand
  12. great stuff:thumbup: if i had a trophy it would be on its way to you
  13. hiya just thought i would say hi as i see you are also from cornwall , where abouts are you too mate ?? im dave by the way

  14. i have seen it recently on a sycamore but so far never seen it on an oak
  15. i have found that the biggest rat attractor is bio chain oil , the company i used to work for hadf a major problem with rats because of it which then carried over to the rats chewing through the rubber round the gear stick on the ldv to get in and eat my workmates 2 day old kebabs
  16. basicly a guy was brought in by a company to do some climbing as a freelanc climber , while working he cut himself out of a tree causing him to fall to the ground being slowed down by several limbs on the way . after leaving hospital he tried to sue the company , the company replied to his solicitor and refused to take liability this carried on for about 18 months before it went to court , the court hearing lasted a day , they found the company not guilty because he was using his own kit (with no LOLER) to carry out a job for a company as a freelance climber and that he was responsible for his own insurance . sorry i have just read my previous post and can see how it made no sence lol
  17. always mate , i believe that if i spend all my time in the dog house i will know where i stand and will never come home to a suprize . Mind you she aint keen when i have got all my climbing gear and the lowering kit in there at the same time lma:thumbup:o
  18. a recent court case (withing the last 3 years) found a company liable after a freelance climber was working and had an accident , several points were raised 1- whos risc assessment was he on ?? , had he provided HIS own kit to carry out the job that HE was doing ?? etc etc . the court determined that he was resposible for his own insurance as he was providing a service weather it be to a third party of not .
  19. i agree with what your saying bob , i think the problem down here is there has been verry little change in the instructors down here for years , there are a couple of good instructors but on the whole they dont teach much of the more modern systems of working becuse there is very little intrest in the more modern systems , i can see thay i will have picked up some bad habits and yes there are changes in the industry that i should be aware of BUT if im honest i have learnty far far more talking to you guys and exchanging information with you all than ever i think i could get out of a refresher , maybe the refresher methods should be looked at , i can understand for a council worker that only picks up a saw to clear roads in storms does need to carry out a refresher in its current state and they should sit a refresher every 12 months in my eyes but most of us that take a pride in our work and in our trade are constantely refreshing our skills by way of learning from one another - take for instance SRT - i would not have a clue about it unless i had seen it done up at the AA show and been reading threads about it on here and asking questions . Rant over lol:lol:
  20. i could not agree more , the industry is an ever changing industry , whei first started there was nowhere near the amount of chice in equipment and to be honest after spend as much time on here as i have i dont think that if i went on a basic climbing refresher down here i dont really think that the instructors would know too much about the sort of kit im using as there is no allowance for people to climb on a jock jack , spider jack , vt , etc etc and certainly srt is not really tought so what would i be refreshing on ??? rescue ?? possibly but i doubt it as its practised every month . As for a basic chainsaw refresher well if i need refreshing on how to fell small trees then i really should pack up now and go flipping burgers !!! Now an Englis refresher would be great lol:thumbup:
  21. tbh i have a 361 and really do rate it , its great to climb with and has plenty of grunt BUT after running some husky 357 xp's i am now lookiing to go over to husky's as they dont feel quite so chunky and as long as you understand that the husky works at its best flat out and does not have too much bottom end grunt and personally find them alot more comfortable to use in a tree . my only question for you is why a 16 inch bar on your 361 ?? i would have thought that the college would not want you using anything more than a 15 inch bar in line with cs30/31 but as for the heated handles i have been told that they cut down on the risk of white finger
  22. thats the one i was on about lol , i was looking at it and thinking that you could change the rope strop and if you wanted make it so that the RG would go roung bigger timber:confused1:
  23. if he was in cornwall i could put lots of consultancy work his way lol Do you ever hear much about Paul Hambidge that used to be the tree officer for exeter city ??
  24. tommer i have a bag like bob is describing that came with my marlow rope its yours if you want it
